This is one of the most tragically beautiful themes I have heard. What you wrote too resonates..is that not what many of us have experienced at some point..being with someone you love above all else and then it not working it out only to then imagine what 'we could have been'? Beautifully written.

Ugh I'm ugly-crying, at around 1:36 when the familiar Brienne theme that's swelling up gets an undercurrent of hopefulness and determination, because she has to go on without him...they both deserved so much better, but at least Ramin paid them musical justice and married them in absentia.

I know a lot of people who don't like this scene. They don't think Jaime deserved it. But I love it. It makes sense with who Brienne is. She's the noblest person on this show, someone who always sees the good in others. As disappointing as his arc turned out to be, Jaime gave her the one thing she secretly desired most: a knighthood. So it's fitting that she gives him in death the one thing he secretly desired most: being remembered as a brave and noble man instead of as a Kingslayer.

It would have been nice if Brienne had also taken the opportunity to clear Tyrion's name of Joffrey's assassination by listing among Jaime's accomplishments that he rooted out Olenna's treachery after the Battle of the Gold Road. But what she did for Jaime was plenty noble already.

It's amazing how he's able to subtly communicate the emotions of the characters, while also sympathizing with the viewers, entirely through his music. He loved Game of Thrones, and respected it, and gave it the treatment it deserved. I only wish I could say the same for D&D.

I still think the love Jaime felt for Brienne was pure, enough to let her go before poisoning her with the toxic thing he felt for Cersei. She was his indeed and he was hers, as his memory and all the good things he did remain with her, in her soul.

Woow. I actually have tears in my eyes. So beautifully said yet so simple. I so wished they could get their happy ending with 10 children. They both deserved. Jaime deserved a happy ending even though he didn't thought that he deserves it. I will never believe it that he did not love her. HE DID. But there are no happy love stories in GOT. As you said she is his and he is hers. Really sad and tragic

@@endnddntjdhds7035 and to prove it more... She is the commander of the King's Guard, which simply means after Jaime she took the vows of celibacy. Knowing Brienne, she will never be with another. Jaime's last happiness was to die in the arms of the woman he loved, no? Didn't the old Jaime die in the arms of Brienne when he falls on that pool? And the Jaime who was good and a real knight was re born in that very moment. That is the Jaime that died protecting his queen.

Such an amazing scene. Especially since it was Brienne who wrote "Died protecting his queen". In the beginning of their relationship it was all about her hating Jaime, because he betrayed his king, but now, even though he left her for Cersei, she knew why. And she accepted it.

@@slimcharles1479 because he's a complex character, who did a lot of evil things, and a lot of great things. Because at the end of the day, he was fuelled by love and loyalty. Because he was a terrific character of all grey, like all of George Martin's characters. George has said multiple times that he likes to write about conflicted people, because "the source of the greatest conflicts is the human heart, which is capable of great good, and great evil." Like Stannis the Mannis says, "Your bad deeds do not wash out the good, nor the good the bad". Jaime was brilliant.

@@dipannitajannat2202 You say it yourself, the good doesnt wash away the bad. In the end he crawled back to Cercei like the piece of shit he always was, so his bad side was dominant. He admits it in the tent with Tyrion, saying he never really cared for the innocent. The show might benefit from having such characters, but giving him redemption with those entries in the white book is entirely undeserved, as it paints him as a hero that he wasnt.

@Joseph Sosa no he doesn't give *happy endings* but he gives his characters *satisfying endings* Jaime's ending in the show was anything but satisfying and well earned after such a beautiful redemption arc. Obviously I'm not expecting Jaime and Brienne to end up married and living happily ever after in the books either but I know whatever ending George gives, it will do justice to their characters.

Because this is what fans want them to be, they aren't. I don't think Jaime would've ever gotten Cersei out of his system. This was unconditional love starting at birth between the two of them. While I do believe that Jaime had love for Brienne, that's not the same as being in love with Brienne. This is one line that should've never been crossed.

That "new" theme has actual been in the show since season 1, It often pops up when a character does something honourable.. For reference look for "Black of Hair" OST from season 1. However, since Brienne is just a being of pure honour it is often played with her.. Most times, I think. Hence the association.

I was a bit, just a _little_ bit, disappointed that Brienne didn't added a clarification about killing Aerys ”Mad King” Targaryen, specifying that Jaime sacrificed his honor (being called a ”Kingslayer”) to save the population of King's Landing: ±500,000 people.

@@KOriginalAddict Love is stronger than reason. Though his choice was disappointing, it fit with his character as he doesn't believe he deserves anything other than Cersei. This scene proved to me that the writers do pay attention to the small details - Jaime's part in the book was only ever referenced in a small scene in season 4. His death also proved a point to Jon and helped him make the decision to kill Daenerys.

I think she was respecting his wishes that it be kept his secret. Jaime didn't care whether people knew about his sacrifice, he didn't do it for fame or honor. He did it because he knew it was the right thing to do, and Brienne understood that.

After that Snape refused to give affection to anyone in his life because he was too inhuman. At least Jaime Lannister had qualities that made him capable of being loved. He had nothing in common with Snape.

@@LaurianeBL I never said they were alike in the first place, but since you don't think so, I'll explain why they are. Jaime left Cersei at the end of Season 7 and tried to be with Brienne, knowing that his relationship with Cersei was wrong. Jaime was also hated by much of the Seven Kingdoms' nobility and common folk for his breaking of the Kingsguard vows (resulting in him being dubbed Kingslayer and a dishonorable man in the eyes of the realm, and this eventually got into his head and turned him into an arrogant monster), so he was NOT well loved by anyone outside of his family, save for Brienne of Tarth. He hadn't been with anyone but his sister before, and he changed himself for the better during his time with Brienne. However he realized that his love for his sister was unbroken and he was unable to truly love anyone else because of his affection for her, resulting in him leaving Brienne and going back to Cersei in Season 8. The latter's love for Jaime twisted him into believing that he was a vile man who was incapable of actually loving anyone but Cersei. Lily was the only person who ever showed any kind of affection towards Snape in his formative years, and he drove her away amidst the Marauders' bullying, through calling her a filthy mudblood. He realized his mistakes and tried to win back her affections in all the wrong ways (similar to how Jaime says he had done and would have done terrible things just to get back to Cersei) which led him down a dark road (joining the Death Eaters, for instance), into believing that he was a vile man incapable of loving anyone at all. Snape was in no way at all a monster incapable of love; the both of them were good men who were so consumed by love and it killed them both. They have a lot more in common than you seem to realize.

It does not matter if Jaime failed at his redemption by deciding to die with Cersei. As AltSchiftX pointed out: "A man's life is what defines him, not his death." Brienne knows it.

Ramin really outdid himself in this one. While it's not his absolute single greatest work on his show (although it's probably top 10), I think it might be the most emotionally impactful combination of music and visuals on the entire show's run. I couldn't breath the first time I watched that scene

I cant tell you how happy i am that someone (brienne here but could also have been someone else) wrote all his good deeds down. that insures jamie wont be forgotten and gave an amazing flashback to the "there is some time" line. even i wish he had survived it all. i can live with it a lot better now. :) beautiful ending. jamie made brienne a knight and she wrote down his deeds not only as a kings guard but also jamie the man.. she would be the next in line in the book now i guess ?^^

I still feel the best death for him considering the journey he had made would have been dying in the great war against the Night King's army at Winterfell. He did a lot of wrong to the realms of men, he should have died defending the realms of men. JMHO.

Jaime's character is beautifully tragic, he saves hundreds of thousands of people, but does so by killing the man he's sworn to protect. He's ultimately faithful to the woman he loves, but she's his sister. He loved his children, but he couldn't be their father. Thankfully, justice was done to Jaime's character.

Here, Brienne ensured that Jaime would be remembered as a selfless and loyal knight by writing as if the Mad Queen had imprisoned him after the Battle of Winterfell. As if Jaime escaped his Winterfell prison cell and rode south to stop her, or at the very least to save the last Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

The same Book of Brothers that Geoffrey mocked Jamie about in S04E01.
