Super sad note - Red Wedding in books is told entirely from Catelyn's POV. After she sees Robb killed she legit loses her sanity; a flood of memories of Ned & all her babies runs through her mind. Grandchildren she hopes to have. She senses someone is behind her with a blade. Her final, pitiful, traumatized thought: "No please, don't cut my hair...not my hair. Ned loves my long hair." JUST AWFUL.

When Tyrion was telling Tywin about Frey's betrayal, saying, "Walder Frey is many things, but a brave man...", you can see on Tywin's face that he just LOATHES the fact that Tyrion is far smarter than his two "prize siblings".

A lot of Tywin's hate for Tyrion comes from the fact that he's the most similar to him out of all his children. In the books, Tyrion's last words to him before he shoots him are "I'm you writ small." All of Tywin's insecurities are reflected back at him through Tyrion.

Fun fact: the Red Wedding is based on 2 ACTUAL events in Scottish history: the infamous "Black Dinner" & the Glencoe massacre. In both cases hosts welcomed guests into their homes/castles and then slaughtered them. Even in our real world histories, the notion of a host violating "guest right" was seen as an unforgivable crime - both on earth & in heaven.

Everyone south of the Neck hates the Freys and Lannisters for this stunt, even the Tyrells. In the North, they despise the Boltons, and Karstarks. Even Lady Dustin and her Ryswell family don't like associating with Roose and Ramsay, mostly because of the fact that it's obvious Domeric was poisoned by Ramsay, but also the breaking of Guest Right. Once Stannis shows up in the books, I hope they, and Whoresbane Umber, leave with their forces, the Lockes and Flints as well. Let the Boltons fight the Baratheons and a North united in finally making them extinct.

Another Novel Note: I almost posted this last episode, then I realized the accompanying scene didn't happen until this episode. When Daenerys was in the House of the Undying, she saw a vision of a feast of slaughtered men, severed hands holding cups and a dead man with a wolf's head on a throne with a crown of iron. It essentially foreshadowed the end of the Red Wedding.

Farther on she came upon a feast of corpses. Savagely slaughtered, the feasters lay strewn across overturned chairs and hacked trestle tables, asprawl in pools of congealing blood. Some had lost limbs, even heads. Savaged limbs clutched bloody cups, wooden spoons, roast fowl, heels of bread. On a throne above them sat a dead man with the head of a wolf. He wore an iron crown and held a leg of lamb in one hand as a king might hold a scepter, and his eyes followed Dany with mute appeal. - A vision Dany witnesses in the House of The Undying (A Clash of Kings)

That scene of Tywin putting Joffrey in his place is the only joy I had post-Red Wedding. I love how Tywin is such a lawful evil character that even though he’s a huge asshole you respect him for his choices. While we love the Starks, Tywin is right. In order to preserve and protect his family legacy he had to make that decision. It also helps that Charles Dance brings a certain dignified charm to his character.

I’ve only recently discovered your GOT reactions and - having pretty much watched every other reaction vids on GOT - love you two the most! You don’t prattle on during the dialogue and you pay attention to the details and intricate web of this story. You will find when you’re caught up that you may crave GOT content (like most of us do) and watching reaction videos helps to fill the void! I look forward to watching your journey through the seasons. You’re both adorable...

That moment when even Cersei is like "Oh Joffrey, you dun fucked up." And then to be sent to bed by his hand/grandfather. By far a great moment in this show, especially when recovering from the Red Wedding.

Thinking ahead to the opening scene of 3x10 is the reason I was quietly cracking up in an earlier reaction when Steven remarked that Robb had "a good head on his shoulders".

Robb was one of my favorite characters too, Steven. He gets a lot of hate, but I loved him. He married Talisa because he was genuinely *in love* with her. Yes, it can be argued that it was a dumb move, politically speaking. Some people have said that he should have just kept her on the side, but those people honestly just don't understand the kind of person that Robb was. He was his father's son. He would never do something that he perceived to be that dishonest. He was already very torn about breaking his word to Frey before he did it. Sometimes the "right thing" from a moral perspective, and the "right thing" from a practical perspective, are two very different things (just like with Lord Karstark), and ultimately that was his downfall. But that's a part of what makes the writing in this story so good.
@jaybird8192
@jaybird8192 6 лет назад
Robb did make mistakes, but the biggest mistake was Cat letting Jamie free! That really brought total chaos to the north's cause! Tywin would have never given the order for the red wedding had Robb still had Jamie! Robb marrying Talisa was not the right thing to do, but Catelyn releasing Jamie gave Tywin an advatage he didn't have before! Remember Robb sacrificed 2000 men to capture Jamie, and Cat destroyed any leverage Robb had! Robb to Cat: "The kingslayer has played you for a fool!"
@gfilmer7150
@gfilmer7150 4 года назад
@@jaybird8192 Robb's biggest mistake was becoming King In The North. If he wasn't named King by his followers, then he would've done the right and bent the knee to the rightful heir, Stannis Baratheon. The two would form an unstoppable alliance that would hold The Seven Kingdoms together. Robb easily would've prevented Tywin from reaching King's Landing, meaning Stannis wins at Blackwater.
@jaybird8192
@jaybird8192 4 года назад
@@gfilmer7150 It was not his choice to become king in the north. With Ned beheaded Robb is now Warden of the north, and the north wanted their independence after Ned,s execution! Robb was the logical choice to be named King in the North. He is Ned's heir. Again, he never made himself king, he was chosen by the people in the north. Like Jon, he didn't want it.
@gfilmer7150
@gfilmer7150 4 года назад
@@jaybird8192 But look what happened to The Greyjoys whenever they declared independence. Fighting for independence doesn't end well. If Robb wasn't named King In The North, he would've lived all of the 'til The Long Night.
@jaybird8192
@jaybird8192 4 года назад
@@gfilmer7150 The Greyjoy's was a different situation than the Starks! Baylon Greyjoy wanted the kingdom, (To be king!) and to rule, not for independence. The Greyjoy's just rebelled to rule! In the Starks situation: The Wardon of the north was falsely executed! That's the reason for their rebellion. It was never to rule the kingdom. Again, Robb never wanted to be king. Fighting for independence doesn't always end up disaster. Take the Martells for instance.

I have seen the series a bunch if times, especially watching people like yourselves watching it for the first time. I have to say it gets me everytime. Not like the first but it's always emotional. In the books, there was no battle at the wedding. Aside from a short fight between Robbs un-armered allies and the Frey soldiers in the wedding hall of course. Instead, the armies were housed in massive party tents where they could eat, drink, and be merry. When the Freys betrayed them, they merely took out the support stakes causing the tents to collapse on the troops. Then the tents (which had been secretly oiled beforehand if I remember correctly) were then lit on fire and the armies were burned alive en mass.

It took me the entire week between these episodes to recover when it aired. I know I'm late to the party here, but that also means that I can speak freely since everyone's caught up by now. I found it hilarious that the scene that followed Bran talking about a man who ate his own children is Waldrer Frey, eating! As I rewatched the show before Season 8 and now with you guys, I'm noticing these little details that the writers put in only for those who are rewatching, those that can see the bigger picture now, and it's amazing!

Aw bless poor Nikki! Yeah I remember how shocked I was when I first saw the Red Wedding, this show is brutal. But I like how it didn’t f*ck around and actually took things that happened in real history (like Clan McDonald, the Glencoe Massacre and the Black Dinner in this case)
