..I watched the entire video thinking is was a ps1 game. I thought it looked quite good graphically for ps1... Then I looked in the description. Dear god.
Stone deals with boulders, mountains, and sand while Earth deals with terrain, soil, and clay. It’s a little confusing but it’s basically rocky vs. earthy.
wonder if all those bionicle fans with wicked programing skills could go back into the games files rebuild the game add new assets make it the bionicle game we wanted
I never knew how much lore and stuff there was with Bionicle, I always just thought they were toys for the sake of toys... My green extendable head one was pretty great tho... Good to see you back in action! :)
The lore and comic series is the coolest thing in Bionicle. It have really fresh and original style that I love. Also it's lego and that makes pretty much everything better.
The lore was actually a major selling point. They had three book series several comics and a few movies and video games. Gets pretty dark too, a lot of child unfriendly deaths. We have villains wearing *corpses* for crying out loud!
When i was 7-8 years old i was hospitalized for a few weeks, they had a playstation 2 and this was the only game they had for it, coupled with a bionicle movie, i remember being quite confused haha
Yeah, the Stone and Earth thing used to confuse me too. The difference is that Stone deals with boulders, mountains, or sand while Earth deals with terrain, soil, and clay. Basically Stone is rocky while Earth is earthy. Make sense?
Actually you can cancel the glide at least in the PC version I remember doing that when I played the game as a kid, another thing I remember doing was killing the Bohrok-Kal in 2 seconds by doing a Nuva Blast the moment the fight starts since for like half a second all of them are vulnerable.
I really enjoy your reviews! They're straight to the point with comedy sprinkled. I enjoy that, I also enjoy your vast amount of Bionicle knowledge. When I was a kid I only paid attention to the figures, trailers, etc, using only my imagination for the story.
And if i knew how to data mine i would tear apart the PC version for all the unused juicy bits. But judging by the quality of the game itself, id say data mining for this game wouldn't be to hard.
I'm sure everything has been found by now, the game is 13 years old and thanks for the compliment, it means a lot :D The actual story of Bionicle can be very hit or miss, but it's loaded with cool concepts and lore, definitely an interesting thing to follow back in the day.
+Game Sharks ive tried some research but its one of those games no one gave a shit about, so they didnt waste their energy looking for the hidden things.
A lot of the cut content was left in the PS2 version of the Game. There are even some textures that suggest that some Toa were intended to have unique attacks and not just the generic beams of light. I have an album filled with most of the unused levels and some video footage on my channel. imgur.com/a/QffeN
I played this game AND watched the Mask of Light movie when I was a kid. I had all the Rakshi, some of the Toa from Bionicle 2, all those creepy spiders and a couple others. Bionicle was the Sh*t. I believe it took off so well not just because of the characters and story, but because it was essentially a "Build-Your-Own Action Figure" toy. I loved the 2001-2003 sets, kinda liked 2004-2005 and 2006-2009 were meh to me, I kinda grew up. I knew when I was a kid that Something was missing from this game, now I know. I wish I could have played as all Toa Mata and all Toa Nuva (+ Takanuva) and fought all the Borak and Rakshi. Belive it or not, I just played this a few days ago for nostalgia, it was much easier than I remember. Great review, and may Mata Nui be with you ;)
I think what made Bionicle rise above Lego's other build your own action figure series was the lore. It added that extra spark to building things, because it gives you an idea of what cool stuff you could do with it.
micshork Like I said in my review, even if all the cut content was there, I don't think it'd be better for it because at its core it's flawed. Not only that, but odds are it'd be even more unpolished if they'd spread themselves that thin. What Bionicle deserved was a game that made proper use of all the cool powers, characters and lore. In my first video, a review of Bionicle Heroes, I talk about a few ways that could have been achieved.
Jake Mills well I've got a n Amazon link to the PC version in the description, besides that there's not much you can do, especially not through legal means
Stone is considered to be the most the solid element, for it represents boulders, mountains, sand(possible) and rocks. Earth is basically the softer element of the two, representing material like soil, clay, dirt, and the terrain.
that moment when the fire level theme from bionicle heros ( gameboy advanced ) starts think i need to go and beat that game again, for like the 32th time
I liked this game as a kid. But I was always upset that it felt so stitched together an unfinished. It felt like they had a fun original game story worked out. And then Mask of Light happened, so they were told to shoehorn in a Mask of Light subplot to make it feel like a tie-in to the movie. It also didn't help that I was too young at the time to understand that the original 2001 game had been canceled, and this was what we ended up with instead. I mean, the game could've been a whole lot worse. I'm at least thankful that the game we did get was at least functional and somewhat enjoyable to a kid who just wanted to run around as Tahu.
As a kid, I saw the previews for a Bionicle game in promo material, and it seemed to promise playing as all the normal toa (which are substantially cooler than the toa nuva, IMO), with screenshots of Onua gameplay. I had always assumed that this was a real game I just never got my hands on. The real game was such a dissapointment, the flash games were better.
The game you're remembering is the canceled game Legend of Mata Nui, which recently got leaked and is currently being patched by fans, I did a review of it a few months ago ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bfzLU7GO1fo.html
TheJoyfulDragon it's possible in the 2002 story the main six Toa fall into vats of protodermis and become Toa Nuva. Takua, by comparison doesn't actually have this, and just changes his name to Takanuva for whatever reason :P
Game Sharks "For whatever reason" that was my original point. :p Like Takua Nuva actually starts to make some sense haha Also, is there any way you know of I could catch up on the lore? I'm starting to collect the sets again and I'm interested in the lore as well
TheJoyfulDragon honestly I just remember the old lore well, I didn't really keep up with Bionicle after 2006. The wiki is pretty up to date, there are a lot of books and stuff. There's a site called the Bionicle Media Project that catalogs every piece of Bionicle media, so that might be a good place to start.
Yep, upon searching it is Maze of Shadows. I'd forgotten what it was called! From what I've seen it is probably the best Bionicle video game. Are there any other decent ones?
Bionicle Heroes on the GBA is pretty fun. It's a nice little top down shooter with a greater soundtrack There's also the Mata Nui Online games, which are point and clicks. I reviewed the first one a few months ago
I always thought that basic six elements were ment to be opposite. like: Fire and Ice- hot and cold Rock and Water- solid and fluid Air and Earth- state of being above and under ground, or something like this... but still, making earth and rock totally different elements is kinda werid...
I had this game for my computer...uninstalled it. It had a plethora of bugs, crashes were relatively frequent, and like you mentioned, it just lacked any form of polish.
Holy shit I used to play this game on my old Xbox years back! I remember having such a hard time getting past the first level, and then I got stuck one of the last ones I think. I remember getting really frustrated with it, and I didn't like it. Tho I have to ask: does the game actually look this bad or is it just the version you're playing? I don't remember it looking this.. blocky?
Dear god I need cheeznitz, my shit literally will not work idk how many times I’ve tried to do the Nuva blast and got bubkis she only shots her energy blasts and I don’t get what’s wrong with it cuz I can’t find a single glitch on it or any one ells experiencing this kind of problem .-. I just tried every thing restart turned of for 5 seconds just to be sure and nope my game is cursed
You forgot to mention how awful collecting lightstones in kopaka's level is. A white collectible in a white environment! Regardless it's a good vid Summarizing the game. :3
+Game Sharks also with Gali's stage for the hard to reach lightstones at the bottom of the pools you can dive deeper by pressing and holding triangle when at the peek of your jump.
One reason this game sucks is ‘cause due to budget cuts and a low time limit. There was originally gonna be thirteen levels instead of seven, but supposedly they had to get the game done by Christmas of ‘03
Review is great and this game is actually really horrible (with minor exceptions like music and overall atmosphere), but on toa Lewa's level you can stop gliding just by pressing jump button.
For those who played this old yet beautiful gem of a game, and I'm talking about Dragon Quest III for the Snes, you will notice that the dungeon soundtrack is the same as a track from this Bionicle game, I think it was Pohatu mine race? Who remembers, still it's another sign of how rushed and lazy the developing of this game was. A waste of potential.
Game Sharks wait I check if I can find a footage of the actual version and dungeon (I Don't quite remember if it was a standard soundtrack for dungeons or just one I particular, I just remember it being present in both games though in the bio one it was a bit remixed)
Weird, here it is the DQ III track in question: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rY3n4qQZTWY.html And I must say now that I looked it up, there is no actual ripping off, though perhaps the Ta wahi might be similar. Every time I ear that dungeon song, it reminds me of that game, perhaps it could be that Ta whai track that has some notes and rhythms that can subtly reminds of this, try to listen them both.
I could be wrong, but I swear that the textures at the very least looked so much better one the GameCube version, which I would certainly hope I'm recalling correctly since I still own the game on that respective console. Granted, all the other mentioned problems are still very much present, though I could have sworn the textures at the very least were better than that.
Game Sharks I'm not saying either of them are by any means good outside of the soundtrack, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy and trying to imagine the game looked better than it did. Although graphics don't make a game for me, the textures on the PS2 version's textures are just completely unacceptable, I would expect textures that pixelated from something around the late 90's, and even then the pixels are less prominent. It's kind of insulting, really, but oh well, BIONICLE sadly never got the proper game attention it deserved, though since we're talking about BIONICLE "The Game" versions here, would you say the console version is the worst, or the GBA version?
I remember playing this game on the pc before, back when there used to exist a lots of physical pc games before but I am sure not many physical pc games Anymore since we have gaming launchers, aka so many gaming launchers that try to beat steam but steam is too big and those gaming launchers. Don't do anything to be a competitor to steam anyway though, like I do wish this game makes a return by getting a remaster or a remake for the newer consoles And to come on steam too, like I honestly love this game way more than the lego games now since lego games now are nothing but copy and paste games. That play the same! which I only have play some lego games to get the platinum trophies for the ps4 before, like it sucks seeing games like these never will come To other gaming platforms at all, since games like this one will stay in the older gaming platforms while games like this will still stay in the old physical days of Pc! like even though this game is bad, since this game is on the crappygames wiki by the times I found this game on there I still love this game and prefer if way More than the lego games now.
I remember beating this piece of shit game. Wish I didn't. I also remember Gali glitching out once and doing some weird hula girl dance and my dad looking over and asking "What the fuck is she doing??" Good times. Not really.
Sad, so sad. Bionicles Story is perfect for a complex game and lett opurtunitys open for good Gameplay. You can make a Pokemonlike Game, ore a Game like Zelda Breat of the Wild, ore a MMORPG, but no, they make this.
Being negative doesn't necessarily make a review good. The controls for this game were wonky at times, but it was a good game. It is a bit ridiculous that every sentence of this review is snarky and negative
