If I can add something to the "Susie is poor" theory, I'd like to point out in a small line of dialogue at one point, Susie says, and I quote: "You're kidding me, all I had for breakfast today was some chalk!" She didn't get to eat breakfast that morning. She ate the chalk because she's starving.

Another possible context clue to everything discussed here can also be found in "Don't Forget": the song that plays at the end credits. Although the song is short, the lyrics acknowledge the sense of (Kris') depression and imagination: "When the light is running low/And the shadows start to grow/And the places that you go/Seem like fantasy..." I also hear "Don't Forget" as someone reassuring Kris that everything will be okay ("I'm with you in the dark"), but it is difficult to tell which character in Deltarune would say that.

"No one can choose who they are in this world" is an oddly specific choice of words. No one from this world can and yet player decides who Noelle is by the end of chapter 2. Player is indeed not from this world. I am absolutely in love with this disassociation between player and Kris. Also the ball of junk is probably Ralsei and that's how he came to the cyber-world

Huge connection I noticed is the River Person from Undertale made a comment about “Beware the man from the other world”, and with the implication that Deltarune is another world along with Sans having a puzzle from Ice-Es which is only in Undertale, I think Sans came over from Deltarune to Undertale 7:57

15:24 The whole thing about Jevil being driven insane by the Knight is completely wrong, since Jevil mentions "kings" in dialogue, so he was insane before the Knight even came to the Dark World to make the King Of Spades crazy. When Seam mentions the person that drove Jevil crazy, he didn't say the Knight or even mentions in the Knight in any vagueness, instead he said "my view of this world becomes darker, yet darker". This means Jevil was driven insane by everyone's non-existent character, W.D Gaster

As much as this theory may not be as solid as before, it was personally good for when it released, and I’m honestly just excited for any Chapter 2 theories! May take a while though, since there’s a lot of hidden details, and it may take a while to thoroughly research every part :00

I think deltrarune is an alternate timeline (where there was no war) that is affected by the genocide route of undertale. Chara and Kris have the same color shirt so I think Toby is trying to link them that way. Chara is jumping timelines and possessing Kris in there moment of weakness. Chara did say she was going to do that at the end and didnt give the player a choice in the matter. Also, this is a stretch but the ONLY character we dont kill in Undertale is Alphys. Remember those locked doors in delta rune? Maybe Alphys also jumped the timeline to follow and stop Chara and is hiding out there. (Alphys in the classroom is not the same person). The dark world is probably somehow the link between the two worlds (chapter 2 seems to open up this possibility)

Here's another peice of evidence that's overlooked! In Undertale, alphys states that Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 is worse than the original. But in Deltarune's library, theres an anime review by an "anonymous yellow dinosaur" that states Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 is better than the original. NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT THIS YALL

I always thought jevil was locked up, because you usually don't use a joker when playing with a deck of cards. I found that funny when I first figured that out. I also just found out that jokers are used in poker, witch would make sense for WHY he's locked up. It's usually not played by kids, and the definition I searched up even said it was a wild card.

I feel like MatPat intentionally used conflicting pronouns to convey the fact that Kris' gender is currently unknown.

I don't know if this helps but I share you this: When I started to play Deltarune, chapter 2 was already released. I was happy to see I have 3 save slots. I played the 1st and 2nd chapter as a pacifist. Don't know how I did but in 2nd chapter all the team started as level 2 and had different class names. The hero's name was Tactician, and not leader as in chapter 1. Once I finished chapter 2, I started another game and after I exited and returned, I found no 2nd save game. The game progress weren't saved. I tried the same and the same happened. No new savegame.

with susie's eating chalk thing, it actually reminds me of something children who are subjected to neglect oftentimes resort to eating things that aren't food. it's called pica and it's an eating disorder that some have for other reasons, even in places where they have actual food. i was in a psych ward for a little bit and my roommate had pica. when the staff forgot to bring her a snack, she started eating crayons. like that was the obvious alternative. (this is completely irrelevant but i tried one, did not enjoy 0/10) my roommate was in the foster care system for a long time. it's common for those in foster care to be severely neglected, not be given their own clothes or only have one outfit, and not be given the opportunity to get basic services like hair cuts. foster kids are extremely likely to be abused while in the system, leading to many having very standoffish personalities (understandably so) and be much too mature for their age, or at least, a lot less childish. some use fantasies and imaginations as an escape, but others are extremely pessimistic and refuse to entertain any sort of "make believe" games. i say all of this to explain that it is my personal theory (two years after the game came out while stuck inside during quarantine binging game theories) that susie is a foster child - no home in the town - signs of neglect - eating disorder behavior - baggy and ripped clothes - unkempt hair - hard demeanor - fronted hatred of kris' game while still clearly enjoying the fantasy world and playing along in her own way *TLDR* susie shows a lot of signs that she's a neglected foster kid via her personality type, eating disorder behavior, and lack of home in the town but that's just a theory, a deep hatred for the broken foster care system's consistent abuse of children theory (EDIT) i forgot kris is adopted! could explain why they let susie play with the world that is clearly so personal to them; they could tell susie was in foster care and/or saw themself in susie due to similar life experiences

I don't know if this is significant, it probably isn't, but I noticed that Undertale is in all caps and Deltarune is in all lowercase letters

my favorite character is the Jevil because even though he is very jokingly an enemy and is very memey and acts goofy he feels very very lonely because of how chris locks him away eternally in his own cage while he is dealing with his cage of emotions very interesting

I think the 7 chapters has something to do with asriel coming back home in a week (maybe to take you back to undertale by waking you up before your cinnamon butterscotch pie gets cold)

There *is* an angel in Deltarune. When you visit Noelle's dad, there's an angel doll in the room with the text "It's an angel doll. Its lack of facial features is unsettling." He says that Noelle and Dess made it for him in youth group and it's like a good luck charm for him. Then Noelle's dad says that Kris and Asriel tried to make one but "wasted the whole time trying to make huge wings for it." I have no doubt that this somehow connects to the whole "Angel's Heaven" thing. I'm hoping you've incorporated this into your theory Matpat, as I feel this detail must suggest some sort of significance.

As for someone who literally JUST got into Undertale 2 months ago, Then found out about delta rune. My feeble brain can't comprehend how popular this whole franchise is and how i got sucked into a abyss of fanart/music/AUs/etc.. its just made me so giddy to see ANY sort of "official" releases That even kind of related to Undertale.(plus some body review the lore to it)

If we consider the Multiverse Theory, what if Asriel. Durning the time of his Absences is actually going to the world of undertale. After he is done with the world of undertale he is going to different dark worlds in our time and opening the dark fountains.

It’s interesting how much of this is disproved by Chapter 2. Even the pacifist/aggressive side changes things with the Snowgrave path.

Honestly imma cry... I grew up with abusive parents and my brother was my hero. I wanted to be exactly like him... but then he moved away to college. When he left... he changed to someone I didn't recognize... He used to be kind of a punk kid but when he left he became my parent's dream. All A's... became a doctor and a church-goer. Everyone who knew him tells me I should be like him... but I actually ended up the way he used to be. Dyed my hair and wore punkish clothes. Listened to the same music. I wanted to be who he was... not who he is now... Toby was right. I'm getting such a deep connection to this story... but in a very different way than Undertale. I can't wait for more.

Did you know, that the school from Undertale Pacifist Ending cast, is the same like the Deltarune school.

Each day representing a chapter of the game and an imaginary world inside the head of the protagonist who has had traumatic events in his life while being a round-based rpg seems awfully similar to a certain psychological horror game about depression

I have RESET in UNDERTALE so many times So many times that instead of flowey saying his original lines, All flowey the flower says if "Don't you have anything better to do?" And then BOOM, FIGHT MODE. and then Flowey say's his normal lines when You'r in FIGHT mode. :(
