Well titan are most important troop in war. He already lose a strong troop he can't lose another one. It he lose another one. The battle will get difficult. Or might lost.
It is not confirmed if he died. If you believe all of this just because the explosion. Then you have to remember that he survived the ambush. And yes he was very injured. But that doesn't mean that he is confirmed dead.
