Gameboy Advance Wireless Charging Mod 

Good effort, but a few constructive criticisms for this mod; 1:) You can actually take the casing off most batteries, or buy batteries of the same voltage and amperage that have much higher capacities and use them instead to shave off some of the girth. 2:) I would have hot-glued a light pipe to get the LED from the charge-board to the outside of the case, or; wired a different LED to the pads on the chargeboard and cut a small hole in the battery cover 3:) There are plenty of aftermarket shells that you could have used instead of chopping up OEM shells. Idk about you, but I prefer any mods to be reversible. Handheld Legend has their prestige line of aftermarket shells that are pre-cut for my next suggestion: 4:) A backlight. Maybe you're fine with the dimmest screen ever placed in a handheld, or you prefer the way the image stays on-screen for a little while after powering down, but there are at least two options for backlighting an original Game boy advance. Funnyplaying and AGS-101 screens are pretty easy to install if you don't need brightness control, but you don't seem to be a stranger to soldering. Anyway, I know you didn't ask for my opinion, and if this is just how you like your stuff by all means, disregard what I said and have a nice day. But I never know what familiarity people have with the modding scene and if I help one person find a product that makes their day, well. That's worth the trouble, I think.

Yeah I was thinking about doing such a thing so it was more visible that the battery was indeed charging!

Careful when you do that ^ The tp4056 smd LED’s contacts are VERRRRY fragile. Went thru 2 boards before getting it to work temporarily on a third board (the third one had the contacts hanging on by a thread, and the LED broke off during instalation :/ )

Yeah you have to be careful and not keep the soldering iron on too long. I couldn’t think of another method of attaching the wire without preventing it from fitting in the shell.

He's not soldering directly to the battery. Those contacts are part of a PCB that the battery cell is connected to. It's perfectly safe to solder to them.

Well, I was originally going to cut the micro usb off and attach it to the board with a positive and negative wire which would leave the micro usb free to plug in when needed.

The Retro Station so with these parts you can have both wireless charging and normal plugin charging at the same time?

Yes, that is correct - I kinda of wish I'd done soldered the wireless charger to the charge board in the video now haha

I would check to see if the F1 fuse has blown - to do this get your multimeter and then test for continuity across the fuse, it should beep indicating that the fuse is still working. If it does not beep, indication not continuity then it would be considered blown.

​@@TheRetroStation The mother boards is ok I have tested it. I changed the tp4056 boards and it works again. Idk why but now the previous board now isnt charging/working anymore

Well, just de-solder the battery and replace with a new one if you needed to. The only irreversible part of this is trimming the plastic shell to fit it all in

I'm not 100% confident on electronic components - I would recommend joining the gameboy discord and asking some more knowledgeable people on there!

Yeah, you would just need to do as I do in the video for the wireless charging part and then for a wired port you’d need to place the charge board so that the USB port was near where you would make a cut into the shell

Putting a replacement battery into a wii remote?

Don't have a Wii currently so can't try it - but if you can get them cheap off eBay then worth a try.

I don’t know enough about the differences between them, I think LiPo is better performance/power to weight ratio but I would assume that the DS Lite battery is good enough of Nintendo used it in their products.

Other than placement of the GBA on the charging pad can be a bit hit or miss no problems yet.

@@TheRetroStation I think that is just a wireless problem my S8 and iphone 8 have similar wireless charging problems with placement on the pad.

@pig boner I prefer the brighter and crisp with more pixel IPS. No ghosting whatsoever.

I find it quite hard to trim the wires down as I hate having to deal with short wire... granted I could just cut another piece if the length was too short first time around! Thanks for the comment

Yeah I have a few of them but decided I wanted a challenge of fitting a Nintendo OEM part to an older product 😂 But to make a LiPo battery mod easier these are definitely the better choice.
