GameBoy Expert Reacts to Subscribers GameBoys! 

The clear shell beside my translucent blue is because I put my grandma's GBP inside in the blue shell so that the original clear shell stayed the way she had it before she passed. The A/B/Start/Select had bad battery corrosion on the board & I'm currently trying to cut to shape copper tape to put over the contacts to make it fully playable again. The blue battery cover came with that worn sticker on it so I just kept it on there cause I thought it was cool. The GBA sticker on her original shell she put on there because I'd asked if she wanted an upgrade to a GBA & she grabbed a sticker off a sheet of them I had & said "Nah, it's upgraded all I need it to now" lol. She had a great sense of humor

The Miyamoto signed one actually has a vinyl sticker on it. Nintendo Official Magazine UK put out a free vinyl back in the day, and I had it on my DS too! (In the lower right corner, you can see the magazine logo)

Do you remember the Shampoo bottles shaped like a Gameboy sold in the UK probs around '96-'97? Had a water game in place of the screen haha and the buttons acted as the blasters - seeing these reminded me that they existed! Good times!

You seriously are the GameBoy expert, I just went and watched a random video of yours to see how you disassemble a GBA, and your twisting the shell to loosen up then screen method is the best. There I was having the original foam padding get torn on every unit I had disassmbled to clean.

Imagine a mirror case for a gameboy It would be epic

I'm still using the old LCDs even if are slightly smaller because the battery consumption it's pretty awesome compared to others (that forces Battery/Shell mods to stand consumption). My first project it's more than 2yo and still working perfectly. Of course newer screens are amazing, but old stuff it's real drop in solution and makes every shell usable. And for the price of a newer screen, I can get two old ones. Obviously the counterpart it's the graphic quality, but I use a lot my GBCs to play randomized/speedchoice runs of Pkmn Gen I & II so I don't need a bigger screen for it. And you can reverse to original in any moment, which is interesting. Summer is really hot in Andalusia and playing a Game Boy it's better than make your room a sauna with a computer.

Oh man. I just got started with my GB modding career after wanting to get started for SO many years. Went full-white DMG with Rips V5, so nothing too unique, but I absolutely love it, and the modding job itself was so simple that I got really inspired to keep going with more models. Hoping to do AGB next. And I hope to see and enter some more competitions like this in the future!😄

5:30 I'm in the video! Had no idea he was going to review these. I tried to fix the switch about 5 years ago but I couldn't get it any better. It doesn't turn on every time and when it does it sometimes randomly turns off again.

Regarding the polished white GB, you can achieve that finish via a layers of gloss varnish then sanded/polished to a smooth shiny finish and resprayed OR a slow speed polish via a dremel with a similar approach to above.

Oh, elliot, something you might find intriguing, Peter Knetter on youtube just recently made a gameboy advance sp case out of CARDBOARD even with the hinge! You might want to check it out! His ability to create chaotic console mods that still work and look amazing is quite impressive!

The blue shell swap, that looks new, but also like the sticker has wear on it? It's not wear. The lettering on the sticker is a silver holographic foil, and when photographed with a light the light reflects off of the foil, making the center section look like it has been worn off, when really it is just white light reflecting off the foil. This makes the portion of the foil lettering where the light is reflecting look white, which then matches the white coloration of the sticker surrounding the foiled lettering, making it look like the section reflecting the light has been worn off. In short, the lettering has not been worn off, it's just silver foil with a white reflection on it, that matches the surrounding white sticker that the lettering is on. Sakura Retro Modding offers aftermarket shells, with holographic foil stickers, like that one...

The Miyamoto signature might actually be photoshopped over the pink. Personally, I think the person just got their Gameboy , but I am the eternal optimist. However, I might be wrong, as the lettering looks too solid of a constant black throughout. When a felt Point marker would have variations and deviations in darkness, and texture, throughout the length of the signature. Attributes which are missing in this particular example, which is what leads me to believe that it is a photoshopped image.

(7:15) Someone actually made that fictional Game Boy from 'Luigi's Mansion' into a real thing?!?!?!?!?! 🤯 And whoever made that real even edited the Nintendo of America support number sticker on back ahhhh that's some attention to detail! (4:15) That looks so well done, that it's reminding me of a website I'm working and haven't launched, as I plan to not only use press photos, but also my own photos, in hardware articles, although my website would cover books rather than videogames, so the hardware in question would be e-readers. (8:41) That one with the face vaguely reminds me of something I may have seen in a comic, TV programme, or film (3:08) That looks to me like someone wanted a Game Boy Advance, but their parents/caretakers bought them a Game Boy Pocket instead and hid the fact that they didn't have enough money, so they just cut the GBA logo out of some magazine advert or flyer and taped it on

I've wanted to do shell swaps on my old game boys. Tried getting some off of ebay, but the quality was dodgy at best. Is there a good resource list of reputable sellers? I know Elliot referenced a few specific people/makers when identifying the mods, I would love to know where to find some of these guys.

I'm never on twitter but I wouldn't have won anyway, mine are all boring. I've just got a regular teal GBC (with a new speaker I just replaced), a GBA SP with a translucent blue case swap, and a Game Boy Player on my GameCube. I want to eventually do the IPS mod for my GBC but I don't know if I want to get another and leave mine as is or if I want to just go ahead and mod mine. Would probably get a new shell if I did as I don't think I could ever cut into mine and risk ruining it.

Pretty sweet Mods!

I’ve never owned a TV or a video game system in my life. And I’m sorry to waste yalls time but I would like some advice… I really want to try it out now that I’m basically in my truck constantly living on the road… But I went to look at getting a Nintendo handheld unit at Walmart the other day, but to get a decent console, controllers, cheapo case, and maybe a game or two… Was going to be damn near $500. I mean I guess that’s fair it’s basically a computer but holy shit I wasn’t planning on spending that much maybe half of that or a bit more. Any advice? I watch Elliot and Mutahar (some ordinary gamers) a lot… only two gaming creators I watch. And they seem to get so much joy out of it I just thought maybe it would help when I’m super bored or lonely and traveling. Grew up in a really conservative Christian house where music wasn’t even allowed much less TV or games, in my mid 30s now I just thought I might give it a try. Any advice is appreciated

I still have my gameboy colour, which is blue. Had lego star wars, spiderman, astroboy, tak, Thug2, american wasteland etc. My brother has his red version as well. I'm 22 and he's 25. Need to find the cord to charge it.

I always had to sell my old handhelds to scrounge together enough money to buy a newer version. Right now I only have a 3DS sadly... At least I still have my N64, with pokemon stadium and the little device you plugged into the controller that would let you play the handheld games on your TV. As I do still have my original pokemon blue and yellow cartridges. :P I wish I still had my gameboy classic, color, advance, and DS pocket edition though...

I have a game boy dmg with Manchester United on it just missing the lens still works going to put a ips screen because the screen is going can barely see any game I put in might put in a battery mod but otherwise keep it as is. I also have a game boy Color purple with french writing on the box but the game boy has discoloured so I’m going to mod it fully with a new ips screen, case, battery, usb charging port and speaker.
