Hey Kohdok ! I'm one of the game designer of Altered and long-standing fan of your channel. Thank you very much for your review and feedback, I can assure you we're currently discussing balancing issues with those starter decks ! 😂 You may find the "Reserve" mechanic in "My Little Pony" TCG, although we designed it independantly, and we discovered other similarities with that game that also tries to move away from the traditional combat mechanics.

I like the limited Rares mechanic.

I loved my time with it. I wanna see it fully realized. The game was genuinely fun and genuinely a wonderful experience. The staff was really responsive and willing to talk. I hope to see good things plan on backing it heavily in February for their Kickstarter! I want to see how the game evolves with time. And hearing you speak so highly give me genuine hope.

Acceleracers TCG mentioned! YEAAAAH!!

I'm skeptical about the QR code elements, as requiring an internet-enabled smartphone is another confusing barrier to entry for younger players. And serious players will just snap up as many packs as possible to try and find the most broken randomly generated cards, making it even harder for new players to get any.

This is the one game that has me intrigued enough to actually temp me out of decade long TCG retirement by the game itself.

Thanks for making a video that focused on how the game actually plays instead of about what those QR codes on the cards are for.

Kohdok, can you please do a deep dive on Fabled Sagas? It's a really pretty TCG but it reminds me of Grand Archive a bit. So I'm trying to figure out if its a copycat or its own thing.

What are the QR codes for?

I don't like the QR codes on the front. It takes away from the artwork a bit. Is it really necessary to have it on there?

The way it's a race made me hope that it could be done in Solo or multiplayer.

I like the general gameplay loop, but there are a lot of things that make me bounce of the game. No-mixable factions? I found lorcana to restrictive already. Together with unique cards and dice rolls that is kind of deal breaking for me. Both of those are a lot better suited for videogame card games as opposed to real ones. I also don't want to know what unique busted cards will do to the secondary market if this game is ever played seriously.

Updates! You get 15 rares + 3 uniques in a deck, not 10 rares. There are no single dual-faction cards, just some cards that appear in two factions. Also, apparently the pink deck has the lowest win rate amongst logged plays 😅 about 10%

Why is this game called "Altered"? Did I miss it?

It feels a little clunky, I'm not a fan of sharing cards or tokens unless it's a self-contained card game or board game. But I wonder, could this system be used to remake the Marvel Snap card game?

Looks interesting but idk if it's complexity is a benefit for this game...I love the artwork but some of the mechanics seem a bit overly complicated.

Randomly generated cards is not great imo. Though the rest of the game seems neat.

The idea of totally unique cards is very anime-esque. It seems like they'd need tons of variants for it not to become an insanely rare thing though.

Altered looks awesome. The art style is very high quality but feels pretty generic and uninspiring, but the mechanics seem solid and interesting. Super refreshing to see someone finally break away from the “reduce enemy to zero” format after 30 years of MTG clones.

I fell in love with this... only until the "random effects" part, wich totally threw me off. Again another TCG ruined because "NFT like collectability" was put over gameplay quality and balance.

Now i know how to scare every yugioh player away from this game: Every card is a pendulum with a random effect and lots of dice rolls XD

I think I'll give that one a skip. Thematically, there's nothing here I haven't seen before half a dozen times, and I don't get on with games with this much deckbuilding restriction. Kind of seems like decks are more or less built for you except for where you choose to put the handful of upgraded cards. And randomised unique cards is straight up gross. I'm also really not a fan of these sorts of "novel wincons". The nice thing about combat as a wincon is that it's inherently interactive, there's a built in system by which every creature card in the game can interact with every other creature card. Alternate wincons are always less interactive, and a game where the base wincon isn't combat and where every deck may have its own wincons on top of that sounds like it'll mostly end up parallel solitaire.

Had me until the unique part. Sounds like a horrible design.

I dislike the homogenous, glossy, overly human-figure-focused artstyle. When did TCG designers forget what looks cool?

Uniques and dicerolls... Hard pass for me.

This tcg is so bad. I hate it when I HAVE to read every single card my opponent plays because there is no way to know about it
