There's some nuances in the "Kings English" and "Murikan English" that are reflected in the text of the games. That being said, SNK butchered a lot of translation anyway so it's personal preference.
It’s really spun my head around to how they released there games in different regions like I always looked on the case covers and everything to see the difference between the us and europe versions like ofc most other systems that came out world wide there came packaging would look different in each region but seems that the neo geo cd is the same in every region with its packaging apart from Japan where it has Japanese txt and the title change sometimes but every where else it’s just with the English txt idk it’s just confusing to me on why they did that along with the aes packaging I as well I think
First, thanks so much for making this video! I recently just picked up a CDZ myself and this video is exactly what I was hoping to find! Two quick questions though: 1.) How did you end up bending the jumper feet in underneath the mainboard? It looks like in the CDZ they made the mainboard one big board, unlike the original NGCD where you could specifically take out the controller/jumper board as a separate piece to make it easier to work on. The CDZ board leaves very little space for safely getting underneath it. 2.) Did this mod hold up over time? Or did you ever end up having any issues with it? I'm always concerned when people talk about running the risk of an electrical short if you don't soldier the wires, but as I don't have a soldier gun myself, your video/solution looked perfect for me. Thanks in advance for the answers and hope you're doing well!
Thanks for the questions! I just simply bent the jumper pins at an angle before install and since they are semi-rigid they stayed in place on the install. I've had no issues since but will say the console doesn't get moved around. If you plan to relocate it frequently soldering may be more ideal. I like the flexibility of being able to remove it easily to play games a certain region way if needed too. Good luck!
@@Bubblun1 that slot looks like you could fit a dip switch and then just flip the switch you want for a region. I think they are about $1.50 and you would not have to move jumpers.
Thanks for the quick reply @@Bubblun1 . One more question, does Samurai Shodown still have its native language options in it’s game menu? If so I’m putting in jumper 👍
@@MrSolidtiger That I haven't tested out but just remember if you want blood in your fighting games switching them to English mode with the jumper will change them to "sweat". I don't play a lot of fighters on Neo Geo CD so it doesn't bother me.
Good job on the mod! Pretty handy that's all it took. I had someone do a region switch for me, but the unit broke while the guy was doing the mod -- it was unrelated to the mod, just bad timing -- so I took the control board, where the mod was, and put it in another system. I have to unscrew and lift the lid to switch back to Japanese, which is surprisingly tough due to the lid being a bitch to line up, but it's nice to know I can switch back whenever I want. I ordered two SD flash card mods for the system, and it went from being able to keep the CD drive and being a simple installation to having to toss the drive and do some pretty intricate soldering, so I'm pretty much screwed. Crossed Swords is awesome. I really wish that weird mash-up of arcade action with role-playing-style adventure elements had been more popular.
I've heard the original Neo CD is a nightmare to work on by comparison, a shame SNK made it so messy inside. Definitely loving the Crossed Swords releases and wish there was more like it too.
Thanks! I'm not sure exactly what the jumper is called because I used one from an assortment kit. But I measured the head of the jumper and it's about 1/2 Inch long in length if that helps!
@@Bubblun1 Thanks, I really appreciate it! I have ordered the same jumper wire kit as you have. I definitely don't want to solder in a switch as it ruins what is fast becoming a very rare version of the NGCD - even surpassing the front loader.
@@Bubblun1 I just went to mod mine and the holes on the daughterboard are blocked, so you can't push the jumper through. The only option is to solder into the pad. The revision date on the daughterboard is 1995.10.13
