Episode 370 - This time let's focus on games that push 16-bit hardware by using polygons to try to make true 3D games! 3D gaming has sure come a long way since then, but these games are fun to look back on. We'll even check out some that use enhancement chips for their 3D because why not?

SNES Doom is impressive for sure, though according to Randy Linden about 95% of the lifting is done with the SuperFX2. I joke that Doom was ported to the SuperFX2 and used the SNES for playback. As Joe alluded to the 16-bit micros did a lot with 3D. Shout-outs to, Hunter for having a full 3D world with NPCs who remember you and multiple driveable vehicles in 1991, Frontier for being everywhere and a sequel to the beloved Elite, and Zeewolf 2 for probably being the most technically impressive with its patchwork floor.
@inceptional
@inceptional Год назад
Also according to Randy Linden, by going back and using the SNES' built-in HDMA feature properly, he could basically double the frame-rate now from around 10 fps-15 fps to around 25 fps. And there's talk about doing exactly that.
