2020 is pushing my hardware limits.

The GBA was an scaling monster. It wasn't only backgrounds that it rotated and scaled, it did for sprites too. Outrun was an impressive port.

I'm from italy and I can confirm that's exactly how the country is.

A lot has changed in my life over the years apart from Sunday mornings (I'm in the UK). Sunday mornings are Gamesack mornings, then I go for my long run and ruminate the video content. It's like my church! Thank you for all you do Joe!

When I got my Genesis, my sister and I marveled at the amazing resolution, colors and parallax scrolling of Altered Beast and Space Harrier II. My dad said he didn't think a CRT TV could even handle graphics much better than that. It's pretty funny to think back on how little we knew back then.

You're one of the best retro gaming channels on here and incredibly informative. You should be getting 5x the viewership that you are.

Well that made more sense than Inland Empire.

Art of Fighting was also the first game to introduce "desperate moves" (or whatever you wanna call it) at low health (with full spirit, fireball + C, A), which was always amazing to pull off at the arcade as it was a secret move and not a lot of people knew about it.

You said it joe, here in Italy we cannot walk normally because the streets are full of lava. Fun fact: this is where "the floor is lava" game was invented

I have always enjoyed watching Game Sack videos especially those that break down the technology of game hardware and software. Now I have a better idea of what Parallax scrolling is, and what mode 7 is, Game Sack has always done a great job of explaining the technology behind some of our favorite games.

I love the research you put in for these videos man, that segment on 16:9 games was super interesting to learn about.

Still one of my favorite gaming channels. Just nice, long, wholesome videos about a wide variety of videogames!

trying to remember if you've ever done Quake on the Saturn for any of these segments, since it was quoted as impossible for the system, and yet works well and even has unique lighting effects exclusive to the saturn.

I kinda like these later "sequels" of topics because you get into games that I've never heard of, or if I have, aspects of them I never realized or thought about.

3:02 - THANK YOU! I love Super Off Road The Baja! It blew me away the first time I saw it, like I was looking at a bad PS1 game rather than a SNES game. It's actually a lot of fun once you get a feel for the weird driving physics!

The draw distance in Motorcross Advance was almost unbelievable! Holy shit! Somebody call Metal Jesus, that's a hidden gem!

I grew up playing Super Off Road The Baja with my Uncle, but he always lost the races because he couldn't resist trying to run over as many pedestrians and tractor guys as possible.

Solatorobo is also another technical pusher. With high poly models and 60 fps along with a nice art style. All running on a stock DS.

My favorite series along the old console overviews. Good stuff, Joe.

When I first saw parallax scrolling on a Mega Drive in a store demo it was like a whole new world opened up to me. Still love me some good parallax to this day

Mode 7 and parallax scrolling was two of the key selling points for the SNES back in the day

All these many years and l never knew about Ninja Spirit on the Gameboy! That's really neat. Hmmm, now I'm thirsty for another Left In Japan episode! Hyaaa!!

Seeing those old games that had a wide-screen mode was so cool!! I love this series!

"not the best idea for a fighting game to have a spirit energy bar for powers" That is an extremely debatable point as in street fighter 2 it was common to see players spamming hadokens or shoryukens and the like. This definitely forced players to use powers more carefully and plan their fights with more strategy. I'm sure that SNK's developers did this to differentiate themselves from street fighter and the other popular fighting games of the time.

Woof... that sprite scaling for Art of Fighting for the TurboGrafx-16 was anything but impressive. That amount of jank is when the developers should say, "you know what - maybe it's not worth it."

Never got to play almost all the games here, as was the case way back then. Still brings nostalgia of those times flipping through gaming magazines and reading about games I knew I'll never get my hands on, until emulation made it possible.

This was my favourite post-credits scene so far. Well done!! I loved it.

I remember playing Busy Town on Sega Channel with my family. Still to this day my mom and I quote the line "My hands are clean!" after we wash them. Then start laughing about how we still remember that, but can't remember something we did two days. Memory is a weird thing.

Ninja Spirit is definitely a successor to Legend of the Kage on NES. I didn't know they made one on SNES.

Here's a cool story for you, since you showed Strider 2 as an example for great voice samples: I rented this game once and I was blown away not only by the quality but also the number of samples. Every cut scene is spoken! But then, a few years later, rented the same cartridge and played on a different console and the voices were horrible! I couldn't understand how could that be! It was the same damm cartridge!!! Only years later I found out that there are several revisions of the Genesis sound hardware. That was when it occurred to me: I bought a Strider 2 copy and started using it to hunt down the "best" sound revision for my personal Genesis. This was much earlier in the existence of the internet so I didn't know you could do the same with the serial number, but there you have it: Strider 2 works as a sound standard for locating good sounding Genesis consoles.

Just when you thought you know everything about your favourite generation of games a new episode Game Sack arrives and shows you impressive games you've heard of or never looked close enough!

Oh hell I most definitely remember Virtua Fighter in the arcade. I remember being blown away by it and would play it every chance I got. I remember one arcade had a HUGE screened one, like 100"+. It was the only time I ever saw a Virtua Fighter arcade machine with such a big screen.

Ninja spirit arcade is pure ART! the colors, the atmosphere, the music and how they all tie together beautifully

I think there should be an entire Lynch/Sack episode.

Great episode, Joe! Games that push the hardware are always one of my favorite topics. I honestly can't recall everything you've covered, but I'd like more stuff about the Saturn/N64 era and subsequent generation (namely PS2 and Gamecube). I know you've covered some of that already, but more is always good. Game Sack is my favorite video game channel! Every new video brings a smile to my face! Keep up the great work!

Jurassic Park for Sega Master System has INCREDIBLE parallax scrolling and some really great animated backgrounds in some stages. There are actually a lot of pretty impressive mechanics throughout the whole thing. Lots of good animation for the intro and ending as well - in fact I believe there are two different endings. I never see it get any kind of love and I don't understand why.

What a good episode!! Enjoyed it till the end.

Where as most Game Sack episodes feel like they're directed by Larry David.

A lot of Gameboy games use the animated background tile trick for parallax scrolling. Some other examples include Tazmania, Universal Soldier and the Flintstones movie game (of all things!)

I love the joking references to music in the closed captions. Nice touch.

Little known secret in Art of Fighting for the arcade. If you make it to the final boss in story mode and then get challenged in versus mode, the two boss characters will become selectable. Also, I can't remember another game earlier than AOF where you can actually punch and kick the fireballs without taking damage.

Fatal Fury for the Neo Geo AES. To get vocals on a stage soundtrack (Richard Meyer stage) on a cartridge is phenomenal.

I need to watch this series because before it didn't interest me too much but seeing this really makes me appreciate it.
