Oh no I won't be able to play with three entire 2000pt armies that I 3d printed. thankfully I can play them against friends who also have 3d printed armies.
I play at warhammer world, I was told I couldn't use the head on my imperial knight as it was one from Taromodelmaker. . I snap the fully painted head off along with all the weapons, try to rush painting the new stuff and mess it up, wreck half the parts snapping them, cancel my trip as too much of a crap mood to go. . . I stick on the laptop and the first thing I see is an official post from Warhammer World showing Taromodelmakers parts and the exact head I got told I couldn't use on a Cerastus Knight with them commenting about how cool it was. . . Thank you very much Warhammer World.
@@SMunozDB7 I'm still not allowed to use 3d printed parts there 🤣, they show them on their official site, show them in instagram, even tell people that it's cool to make your models unique encouraging them to do the same, even name the store that makes the 3d printed parts. . . . Then ban you from playing in WHW with them 😅 makes absolutely no sence. .
@@SMunozDB7 also I cant afford to have an army of models I can use in WHW and a 2nd army I cant. . It was a lot cheaper to crack off 10 Armiger heads and 1 Mageara from my 2k torney army than buy a whole new army.
GW trying to remove 3d printing from their hobby space is going to work as well as when movie/television industry fought against the introduction of VHS. Cat's already out of the bag, GW. Time to get with the times.
We are already on step 2, Hero Forge, an app to build and pose a mini just as you want it. That is what they should do and ask for a reasonable sub. It would work and convert most 3D printing people to reoccuring customers.
@@KrullMaestaren I agree GW should do a editor for minis , i would pay for it , but a charakter editor just limits you , learn a bit of Blender or another 3D-software , and you will be able to do whatever you want .
@@KrullMaestaren Weird how no one wants to pay 80 dollars for a hunk of plastic when someone can print it off for 5. This is the only way they make it back, because no one wants to pay the prices they are extorting now.
I agree and disagree. GW is a company that needs to sell minis. I have no idea their financials but I would assume the vast majority of profits come from the minis, which would obviously be an issue for them. If there was 0 issue with printing the stuff they create - what is the need of the company? It’s a double edged sword to which I don’t know the magic recipe for. The best example I can think is Magic or Pokémon. If you could just literally print out your deck, what do you think the impact would be for them as a company? Id be willing to bet if we cut GW profits by over half, we probably wouldn’t get better content. That being said, I’m sure there is SOMETHING they can do to get money from people printing.
Using non citadel paints on gw minis is now illegal. GW gestapo: Oi!! Is that Army painter on that Keeper of Secrets? Me sweating profusely😓: Nnnnn... No🤥 GW Gestapo: Then why does it look so chalky. 🤔 Me: I forgot to do two thin coats. 😶 GW Gestapo: 😲

No forgeworld allowed in the store because "we don't have the will to check if models are authentic and because we don't want people to see models that can't be purchased in the store and forgeworld is op" wow you are actually damaging your own company...well done... Plus forgeworld op? Jay explaining what 3D printer and software to talk about to a GW worker is really funny to me as someone who does print his own models and accessories
Old GW: Hey, cool kitbash made of scrap metal, garbage, and another companies model! Can we put it in a future White Dwarf? New GW: Nuuuu, yu used a dffernt helmet on taht speice merine, get out of my stoer!
The rules (which I'm sure you read) literally states that scratch building using plasticard, putty and brass rods and the likes is absolutely fine. They say 3D printing is fine as long as the parts are not commercially available. 3rd party miniatures haven't been allowed at their events in for ever. Nothing has changed.
@@rakelodakel I'm well aware. It's just a melancholic rememberance of an age where third party models were fine as long as they blended well with the army and making vehicles out of random junk and third party bits was encouraged by the devs.
@@OdaManjiro you can still do all those things, except bring their competitor's miniatures to their events. And I feel like it would be a bit strange to start demanding GW give free publicity to companies that hang on GW's coat tail, producing cheap "alternatives" to Warhammer miniatures. 90% of wargaming events will still allow all kinds of mixing and matching anyway.
@@Splatterpunk_OldNewYork I think it matters a lot to people in the UK where GW stores are more common. In the US, it only matters to a tiny subset of players. I was curious, so I did a quick Google and while I didnt find data for Canada, I did find that there are 400 in the entire US, on average 8 per state. Whereas there are 140 in the UK, which is a little bigger than the average US state.
Actually, it is even more laughable. How are they going to enforce it? Are you going to show up with a receipt for every single item that is a part of your army? Second, how are they going to know what the correct miniature looks like in comparison? This is what GW gets for always raising their prices and forcing players to have to rebuy. It is cheaper to print and achieve the same outcome. A figurine/miniature is just a shaped object. GW can go stoke the coals of hell with their face.
@Satanizer are you mentioning that because you're taking the "he shoulda known better, it's a company store" attitude, ooooor because you'd exclude a player because his army was too cheap? If the models are ABOUT the right size, I don't care. I think a lot of people enjoy the elitism and exclusion that expensive models create.
Its a company that sells miniatures. That's their sole business... And here you buy some other company's miniatures and waltz in to a GW store, demanding a table when you aren't even a customer... Its a business, not a charity. Your problem is with ccapitalism and the free market, not with GW.
This is becoming one of my favorites channels, your positivity is absolutely refreshing. I have the same outlook on gaming, I'm not a very social person for no other reason than I don't need to be around people to enjoy myself but through various table top games I've made almost every friend I have and had great fun. To me it doesn't matter what the game is (as long as it's decent), doesn't matter who wins, it's just a game I'm here to have fun with another person(s). Also I love the end segment highlighting peoples accomplishments and that they're not all super professional paint jobs, puting any effort in a model is vastly superior to the grey horde! Thanks for all you do Eons!

So another thing was that you can't do it on 3D sculpts that you got commercially. But since they shut down that Kickstarter for Eldar sculpts, they gave them away for free, so now you can legitimately use them at warhammer world.
Do you remember that kickstarter name or link? I think I know the kickstarter you're referring and I've been trying to find it again to back it. But this explains why I can't find it again.
@@verumpatata141 Yes, thank you very much! That is exactly the kickstarter that I remembered seeing and then I've been debating whether to start an 3d printed eldar army but I could never find it again. If I find the files, I'll post the directions here.
I do like the Apothecary White Contrast. I am using it on my Tyranids skin as I wanted their skin to look more cold looking since they are coming from deep space. Its coming out pretty good with their black carapace and green highlights.
The ork boyz are actually a little older than 20 years, it's closer to 24 years. They were originally the boyz from the GorkaMorka game, circa 1997. When Codex: Armaggadon came out with the Speed Freeks army list, I changed their bases (GorkaMorka bases are tiny, so ya can get more boyz in da wagoons) and they were identical to the boyz GW released in 3rd ed.
The GorkaMorka boyz were different. They were between the design of 2nd edition and 3rd edition; less weedy than 2nd but not as 'uge as 3rd. The grot design from Gorkamorka carried over into the 3rd edition range as did a few of the nob models and the Mechboyz, but the Shoota and Slugga Boyz were all new models for the 3rd Edition codex. The Gorkamorka Deffcopta and Biker kits were fairly close in look to the 3rd stuff and didn't stand out as "wrong" in a 3rd+ mob.
@@helotaxi almost all the GorkaMorka Ork models were re-used for the 3rd edition Ork codex, some of the kits had a minor update to bring them inline with the codex but the models themselves were the same. Also the current deffkopta is just a resin recast of the GorkaMorka version (I honestly can't tell between my lead model or the resin model without picking them up).
Untill they go back to the old days of making parts available not just a few upgrade/parts kits they should just except if they don't sell the parts people will source them elsewhere
Hell i ended up getting a bunch of stuff from PopGoesTheMonkey.com including Ravenwing biker bits since you cant find the legit ravenwing upgrade set anywhere
Well especially when it comes to factions the the Guard. Right now you can only buy Chadians, Catachan and Steel Legion directly from GW. Death Korps of Kreig you can buy and but its Forge World. If you want to be charitable that makes four sub-factions supported to varying degrees. I like the Steel Legion so.... yeah, barely supported. This leaves out the Tallaran, Valhallan, Vostroyan, and the Mordian sub factions unsupported in models but not rules. That would be okay if you could just slap an upgrade kit on them like with some of the space marines, but the guard looks way too different. So right now the only option you have is to paint your Cadians in different colors. Lets not even get into the custom Chaos bits that have been printed that are great and unsupported. GW has shown they can nail it with the Death Guard refresh. GW has to realize that players don't want to wait for them to take years or decades to getting around to refreshing their line.
@@gdenight and they wonder why people use push moulds and make small things like chest plates with green stuff or milliput. Oh just incase you didn't know don't buy green stuff kneadatite it's the proprietary name for green stuff but cheaper. Not that I'm suggesting you use it for anything like push moulds 😁
GW's 3d print rule is more so just insulting. Their events aren't the biggest, they aren't the best and the majority of people apart of their hobby will never go to Britain anyways, but it's more just the fact they said it. Like 20 years ago 'Eavy Metal featured a hobbyist made land speeder that was made out of a deodorant stick and were all like "This is creative goodness that makes our hobby better than anything else, we love you guys!" and now they're kind of just killing that creativity in a medium that gives every kind of hobbyist the ability to have individualistic armies and for creators to share their passions. My biggest gripe with them putting their foots down on shit like this is where does it end? Am I a bad guy if I sculpt an ultima with green stuff? Maybe if I paint a winged blood drop? Why not after all? Of course this is all rendered moot when they ask you if you have any 3d printed bits and you just say "no", lying does in fact exist, gas lighting is a real thing and I do recommend using it in such cases. Plus I'm sure most dudes who work for GW that run these events probably don't give a shit if you do use 3d printed bits, they just need you to say that you aren't using 3d so they can cover their asses, they're not going to ask you to strip the paint from your minis
It's the same with all entertainment companies. There is a 20-30 year period when they are new and excited to have a fanbase create stuff based on their work. Then the old guard leaves or retires, and the new bosses see only profit. Sometimes this happens with the old man still in charge.
To a certain extend you can understand GW copyright laws in the 80s and 90s where different then they are now and you could get away with more, without risking loosing your IP. Things are different now so to keep your ip, you need to be protective of your ip or risk loosing it. However i would have to ask where does the line go? When are you protective of your ip and when are you overprotective?
@@Erikjust Oh yeh definitely. It's perfectly reasonable for people to try and protect their brands, but where does it end? And what exactly qualifies as breaking it. I always use the Blood Angels as an example because it's perfect to use. They have their own transfer sheet, they have upgrade kits and even a dedicated tactical squad kit, so if I decide to paint on a blood drop am I breaking the law? And in my opinion, right now GW is in a transitionary period where they're going from miniature wargaming company to entertainment company like marvel so it's only going to get worse on so many levels
My local gw has a champion employee that quietly encourages 3d printing, I've got 2000pts or 3d printed "guard" and he goes nuts for them and tells everyone how good 3d printers are, plus all the tanks are legit gw so it's hard to actually tell on the table
@@southaussielad2496 And there it is. Can you actually tell a 3D printed fully painted model from a cast fully painted 3D model? If no well good luck trying to ever prove that this is a 3D printed mini and not a converted or official GW mini. From what i can read this sounds more like a rule that says officially we don´t allow 3D printed models at our events and stores, unofficially we don´t really care much. If it looks official enough we will accept it 9,9 times out of 10 times. Heck GW more or less says so with their little side notes that if you sculpt 3D printed parts yourself it will be accepted. The only way to ever truly be on the relatively safe side that the models each player bring to the table, would be to demand that you make an account on GWs main page and that each store selling GW products, must register your purchases on your GW account. So that GW can check that you actually bought the models you are bringing from them, such if you bring a 2000pts Daugther´s of Khaine or Drukhari army, well GW can check and see that each of these models where indeed bought at GWs store. It would take a LONG time and would basically alienate most of the guys (if not some staff members too) showing up to play at GWs tournaments, but at least they would be certain.
I think I remember around the early 2000's when they stopped giving tips in the White Dwarf about where you could get material for building terrain. Then we entered the period when they started specifying which Citadel tool and paint to buy.
I love the salty Gestapo Workshop impression! I would probably read your advice right off a printed queue card to their face. Better yet; I could design a snarky pamphlet to hand out that says exactly the same thing…oh the possibilities! You should do more self-skits like this for other GW nerd scenarios! You got a great sense of humor
Okay I think by far the weirdest part was the ruling that different detachments have to be painted differently. Not like just base rings, but entirely different. That’s so strange to me!!
Not if you are using a different detachment in the same army, ie valorous heart sisters single faction. But if I was using valorous heart detachment and bloody rose detachment, then yes I would have to.
Hi. You only need 3 storm troopers units for a standard game. Base unit is 4 models. You can add 1 extra storm trooper and 1 special weapon. Have fun with Legion. For the Empire!!!
Those are the already established warhammer world rules. However, GW did also announce this packet when it comes to the 3 big tournaments they are putting on in the US. Still not a huge deal IMO, but there are definitely some people that wanted to go that cant because their army doesnt meet the requirements. Also, its on you to prove you sculpted it. Its not on games workshop to prove you are lying so 'pics or it didnt happen' might become a real thing. 99% of people are not going to be affected by this. Its only Warhammer world and the 3 GW major GT's in the next 6 months. Its definitely more serious than youre saying, but not as serious as everyone else is saying. Love the content. Keep it up. Looking forward to seeing those stormtroopers painted up!
You should definitely give the Horus Heresy a chance. Most of the novels are absolutely amazing. And it's not like you'd have to read them all. After the initial novels, you can basically pick and choose, read whatever you want without missing any cohesive story, but if you read them all, you get to see all the details.
LOL! I was watching and got to "your best case scenario is..." and then I accidentally hit the beginning of the video so what I heard was "your best case scenario is...make 3 videos a week and stream every night" and I was like "you say wot, mate?!?!"
My local warhammer store also has a 'GW and FW parts only', but they have two exceptions: Heads, Shoulder Pads. They're fine with those being 3D printed, as long as the rest of the model is official GW stuff.
If you think that Black Library books can be too descriptive you clearly have never read The Wheel of Time. Robert Jordan could spend five pages talking about exactly how sunny it was that day.
I've got that old orc box set, half painted. If you want to energise the poses of some of your boyz just twist the torsos to one side when putting them into the hips, to tilt the line of the shoulders. A small thing, but really helps add some dynamism to a waved axe or prowling pose. And don't always have your minis looking down the sights of a leveled gun. Point the gun and head in different directions sometimes, aim the gun at the floor or sky as though they're posing for a poster. 😆
Maybe if GW didn't want people using 3D printed or recasts they should ensure you can build an army. At the moment loads of items for all armies are out of print, can only be gained through box sets (that are sold out or out of print) or paying over double for scalped minis.
GW is playing with fire. They are walking a tight rope between monetizing every monopoly versus alienating the creative fans that help create the 40K monopoly network effect. 3D primter go BRRRRRRRRRRR
They have always declared that any models that are copied to be illegal since 1999 they banned them from tournament play but since they keep raising their prices to unbelievable expenses most people have resorted to resin 3D printing… because for the sheer cost savings
As a fellow Tarantino fan, I must correct you on the "Lucky strike" cigarettes and mention that they are "Red apple cigarettes" that keep re-appearing in his movies though :)
i think that every book in the horus heresy is worth reading. every book is different except the first 4, which are pretty much about horus. after that its a different story in the same setting and time of the heresy era. so you are not reading something coherent like harry potter. its more a collection of good books in the same setting. read them. most of them are great and interesting. i had some which i found personally not so interesting. one of my favourite books is Legion. Just give them a try. you can always stop reading them as they are not a single story. you can even mix the order you read them in (except the first 4)
Regarding Pulp Fiction- it came out when I was in college and I saw it a time or two when it was in its initial run in the theatres and it was great, of course. The film eventually made its way into the $0.50 theatre near school so my roommate and I went and saw it whenever there wasn't anything else to do. I ended up seeing that movie in theatres at least 15 times over the course of a year or so. It is a movie that I will still watch and enjoy to this day. Fantastic stuff. And also, JAY.... Red Apples.
When drybrushing those Stormies, get the nice drybrushes from Artist Opus or find an equivalent at your local crafts store, trust me, they really help. Excellent work on that Chaplin and don't forget to checkout fan made SW series Bucketheads!
How would they even know what's 3d printed and what's not? Especially as 3D printing becomes near perfect? Are they going to start selling certifications with their kits that you have to bring to events?
Well, guess I need to tell the story about how I met Quentin Tarantino. I was working security at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2006, and was in the preview room. He had just done his presentation on "Grindhouse" and it was between segments, and I was stationed in a hall to make sure no one unauthorized went out into the loading bay, as there was also a set of bathrooms there. I see the doors to the bay open, and sees there's a bit of a line for the bathrooms, so he decided to chat me up a bit while waiting. Quite the animated talker, and was quite impressed that I was in the Marines at the time. Asked me what I thought of the preview, if I had seen any of his stuff, things like that for about 5 minutes or so until the line went down, then he went in. Was quite the interesting person.
all this is likely to do is drive people who have the option away from official GW stores and into mom and pop, locally owned stores. which, ultimately is a good thing.
I also have the kangaroo on my night stand next to my bed. Pulp fiction has always been a favorite movie of mine and when I saw the kangaroo in an antique shop one day, I knew I had to buy it. Best purchase ever.
Goes other way around too. If you show up to their event demanding they let you play your knock-off army, they won't care, and thry can show you the door.
After I saw the new rules for using (or not) parts from third parties at Warhammer World I decided that I would actually ask why this had been done. The manager of my local store said that it is most likely to do with copyright. Events at Warhammer World are photographed for use on their social media and GW don't want to risk copyright claims from other manufacturers for showing images of their parts. That's why using parts you made yourself is fine, by turning up at the event you grant permission for them to photograph your army and post images online. At least my Squat Imperial Guard army would still be allowed. I'm sure GW would love me turning up at Warhammer World with that.
I can't imagine how GW is going to enforce these rules. Who's going to look at each and every model in each and every army and track down if there are 3rd party/bought 3d printed parts? It's simply not enforcable.
if you knew anything about warhammer world you would know that if you intend to play there you have to send pictures of your army in advanced to see if they are allowed
The Pulp Fiction kangaroo watch holder is likely a deep dove by Tarantino to an old film called Matilda. It's an old Australian film about a boxing kangaroo, which would fit Butch's theme.
GW: 3D printing our models is illegal Catalyst Game: you can use our official plastic model, your own 3D printed mechs, green toy soldier, or even eraser and call it Atlas, or Mad Cat, or Raven, or whatever mechs you want. We just want people to play Battletech and have fun.

It has always been this way. And 95% of tournaments and games have not been sponsored by them and played at their stores. Literally nothing has changed.
Yeah GW seem intent on alienating their fans and taking courses of action that will in the long term have far greater financial impact than 3d printed parts on models. They are trying to monopolise the industry and I think this is so short sighted on their part. They would kill it if they teamed up and allowed third party parts etc. Especially if they keep the rules strict so despite what your part looks like it cant play better than a GW original

I couldn't care less about what GW thinks or says. 3d models are superior to most GW models in design, detail, posture and customisation and that is BEFORE you go into reposing and digital kit bashing! It takes me about 10mins of work each weekday to feed my 150$ resin printer and on the weekend I have the equivalent of a full army box of minis ready to assemble and the total cost even with the printer is less than 20% of what GW charges for the equivalent in models
to be Honest, the comparison between the 3 (6) books of LotR and HH is not realy fair. As the Horus Herecy covers so mutch of the time leading to the acuall event, as well as all of the important Caractes Backstorys (18 Primarches + Malcador + Valdor, Emps and MORE) you kind of have to compare it to ALL of the Tolkien works. LotR is sowant of the Siege of Terra part, the Event that all lead up to, and then you are in a similar span of books (kind of).
