We continue our comparisons of the GameStop Converters today, moving onto the 5X Pro as today's subject! I'll be showing comparisons of the GameStop RCA to HDMI Converter and the 5X Pro using a variety of consoles, with one change. In previous videos, I used the 5X Pro's default profile. This time around, basic optimizations will be put into place to better show what the 5X Pro is capable of!

*Important Call-Out: RU-vid's compression does takeaway a lot of detail that is seen in person that devices like RetroTINK, RAD2X, CARBY, and more output. Bear that in mind with any content containing capture footage from those devices. My commentary and opinions come from the Raw Capture Files and what it looks like on my TV, I can't accurately account for what details are lost to compression until after the video is uploaded.

I'm thinking i need a 5X Pro! Another great video showing pros and cons :)

Thanks! This was an interesting one because it was the first "store bought" thing I've messed with. As I said in Part 1, it became clear that this wouldn't be much different from the AV2HDMI upon unboxing, but I was interested to see how it played out regardless. I looked back at some of my raw footage from the AV2HDMI and found that the GameStop Device looked better, so it would be fair to say that it is a tad better than those devices (pure picture quality, input lag would be still be an issue), but of course the 2X Pro and 5X Pro (plus others like OSSC and more) can offer the best experience possible.

Mind showing how to use a universal remote on tink 5 x and 4k it says it’ll work on the site but just don’t know how

What kind of universal remote? Something like Logitech Harmony? I have played around with Harmony and the 5X, could do a video on that if it would be helpful. I’ve also done a video on that newer style remote made for the 5X Pro as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0soENJ1Hlic.htmlsi=8llU7mjdHyir7XXc

@@RetroBoost Even a basic tutorial would be great ideally 3 remotes I’d like to use the rca usb c remote. The GE rechargeable usb c remote and the basic Onn Walmart universal remote

@@Adam-ru3fi Unfortunately, for those kinds of remotes, they tend to use pre-programmed manufacturer codes. "Press 5745 for Samsung IR #1" - as an example. The manufacturer needs to be in that database, and there is no chance that RetroTINK is going to be in there (I mean I guess never say never, but I highly doubt it). With remotes like Harmony, you can teach new commands from scratch, the manufacturer doesn't need to be in their database. I took the 5X Pro remote and one by one taught the Harmony Remote all the buttons.

@@RetroBoost I see. Apparently there’s a tweet from Mike chi saying the remotes use a obsolete vendor code don’t know what it could be wish I could send the post

@@Adam-ru3fi That’s interesting. I was wondering if that was the case since the 5X Pro’s original remote is like this repurposed Roku thing.

Is this a serious video? Compare rebranded chinese aliexpress crap against an FPGA based convertor. I wonder what works better!
@RetroBoost
@RetroBoost Месяц назад
Hey, “allegedly rebranded” lol. Yes it is serious. People ask about these generic converters all the time. If I can provide help in the form of showing what is possible with the higher quality devices like the RetroTink family, then mission accomplished. For some people, the more generic one might be fine, it’s all subjective.
@niallmclarney
@niallmclarney Месяц назад
Also some people might only be able to afford a generic converter and quite often that is enough for people who just want to plug and play so this comparison is quite good and accurate but channels like Mike's have gone indepth in scalers and converters like RETROTINK products before and have helped me quite a lot. I'm assuming you didn't watch the whole video because if you did you probably wouldn't have commented

Thanks @niallmclarney , I really appreciate that! I have family who has seen what devices like 2X Pro can do, and still chose to keep rolling with a generic converter like the AV2HDMI. For some people it's price, others just are more casual in terms of the experience they want, its all so subjective. I also just straight up enjoy playing around and assembling these comparisons, but if it can help someone understand what is out there, then I'm more than happy with that outcome. Awareness is pretty much my main motivation to making these videos. Since these GameStop Converters are sold physically in stores, I hope that by making these videos it can also shine a light on devices like RetroTINK to those who are interested in that next level of performance with their retro gaming, but just don't know that it exists. That was me prior to 2021, I had no idea that this whole world was out here, and it's only gotten bigger and better since.
