Gaming is in Trouble...

Whether we're talking about Stalker 2, Halo Infinite, or Modern Warfare 2 the state of gaming right now is concerning to say the least, microtransactions, day 1 DLC, broken launches, and the fact that all this seems to be accepted by large swathes of the gaming community is really disturbing. Here are my thoughts.
Thanks for watching!

Well said and agreed, we as the people gotta stop feeding these *&$# I loved the Battlefield franchise own em ALL Upto V, but when they f*ked V I didn't get the next 1 and their situation with Disney having to get involved about Star Wars Battlefront 2... World Of Tanks & Warships can be played and have fun TOTALLY FREE Same with Smite... but with Tanks and my FAVORITE Game Warships there are some really good premiums but there are techline ships/Tanks that are just as good. But agreed Smite charges to much for skins as does Halo... so I do 98% agree with ya

I grow increasingly more picky of what modern games to play nowadays, not only because of expenses but because of greedy practices by companies. I once tried to get invested in a free to play game, but eventually got sick of the grinding and left it behind, despite the gameplay itself feeling fun. Whenever I see that a game relays too heavily on things like free updates or day 1 patches I become extremely wary of it, usually preferring to just not buy it. This has motivated me to go out of my way and buy more indie games instead.

Every reason you stated is why I now only buy indie games. AAA is not gaming anymore, it's a second job. The only time I've ever bought microtransactions is if I had $2 in my steam wallet and I've got nothing else to spend it on. Even then it won't be from a AAA game. The shift to predation has been gradual enough that we gamers have been begrudgingly accepting of the change. Tbh, it's the poor treatment and undervaluing of employees doing grunt work on games that disturbs me the most about the current state of gaming. Some of the most successful and loved games are made by broke and starving artists that never receive due credit or compensation. It is _not_ okay.
@BrokenCircle1
@BrokenCircle1 Год назад
Fair enough. I do find it crazy that with 343 for example some people who worked on the multiplayer (which when it functions properly is OK) got sacked but the studio heads that have repeatedly displayed incompetence and a total sense of apathy still have their jobs while they do the bare minimum.

@@BrokenCircle1 thanks for the response. I do agree with your video. We can't deny the lootbox lottery, premium dlc, unfinished games, digital cosmetics, pay to win, subscribe to play is all out of control. Plus, high end GPU prices have spiked, sony raised the price of the PS5... we had the Overwatch 2 debacle, Pokemon, Cyberpunk. Remasters rereleases are constantly pumped out, with some completely unchanged. Things are quite bad. As we see other industries rise and fall, I feel like the corporate world sees the massive gaming community as low risk, low cost, easy money. It really freaking sucks... To paraphrase from that that fake gabe newell interview Q: Where do you see the gaming industry in the next few years? A: Down the shitter. its fucked beyond belief. I never really considered the predatory industry practices or that the kids now teenagers who grew up playing fortnite et al in todays world would be normalised to that sort of stuff unlike the games I played when I was growing up. I would add to the point that maybe people are intentionally entering creative roles to fuck up projects to get some sick twisted satisfaction from it, its one of the only reasons why I can explain how when a project has everything right going for it, but it still ends up in failure. With infinite, you have the backing of one of the worlds richest companies, thousands if not 10s of thousands of contractors/support staff, unlimited resources yet you still produce a product that is underbaked and unfun. Compared to bungie who could release a functional game (THERE WERE NO DAY 1 PATCHES, EVERYTHING ON THAT DISC WAS FINAL) and then release some expansion packs/dlc afterwards that genuinely improved the game. it astounds me. People say "go try indie games" well thats all good and fun but the games I like require somewhat of a budget and somewhat of a crew to pull off, an indie game ala halo 3 could spend years in development 5-10 in which the contributers could be burned out, or worse the game is canceled because they think they have bit off more than they can chew. There are other reasons why I think gaming has gotten worse but Its not worth mentioning them all, I am sure others have and you probably know of it since you're clearly pationate about it. Thanks for the vid, sorry for the blog

I have got myself a Wii, a 360, and plan to get the 1-2 backward compatible PS3 to collect older games as the 7th generation of consoles was the last good era of gaming before mandated online, day one updates, MT saturation, and woke trash infected everything in the 2010's. The 80's and early 90's were the golden age of gaming with the late 90's-late 2000's being the silver age. Now we live in the trash age of gaming.

A good rule of thumb is to estimate what is the maximum amount of money you can spend on a game. If there is for example 3 map packs a 15 dollars each, then it is 45 dollars, maybe a bit high but not too bad if there are loot boxes, battle passes and currencies then that number is probably very, very high. what was it someone estimated 800k to unlock everything in diablo immortal if it is unlimited or close to it then stay far away

You are right about all the points in the video, however on your point about the gmaers themselves I think you overlooked something. Its not solely the people who defend these comapnies and practices. There are a lot of people (myself included in this so Im not putting myself above others) who will shit on games while also buying them and complaining. They get burned every release and continue to buy games from people who destroy their favorite franchises. Microsoft (and 343) had massive layoffs among other companies. People celebrated this not because we are happy people lost their jobs, but in the vein hope that they MIGHT get the message and enough people have stopped buying these games to make it less profitable for them to do it. Do not pre-order. Do not buy crappy games just because its the newest one. Do not defend people who destroy franchises. Make it known your opinion AND VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET.

It was that game alongside Fallout 4 which I purchased around the same time that finally broke me from pre-ordering at all. And I am very thankful for a lot of games that I would have pre-ordered before such as Gears 5, Halo Infinite, Cyberpunk, Fallout 76 (all of which were pretty bad) I thankfully avoid. I think all true gamers have this moment. When you end up putting your faith in a company, giving them a second chance, and well you get burned. Hard. And it sucks but at least you learn. I’ve been having the most fun in gaming the past 6 years than I’ve ever had. By playing new games made by small developers and newer releases from different genres, connecting with the developers and giving constructive feedback you’ll have a blast, Trust me. I remember playing Fortnite on release before it was popular and remember it being completely different from what was on the market and having a blast with my friends learning new mechanics and trying to survive, then it got crazy popular and the quality declined. That’s what happens to most games such as Halo upon getting popular and Microsoft getting full control over it. Halo is dead and have been declining since the release of Halo 2 very sharply, COD is a rollercoaster, Battlefield is dying, so many other mainstream titles are dying or are dead. Indie and small titles trying to attempt something different is the way to go. 🤷🏽‍♂️

i 100% agree...d biggest issue is u have people that i personally dont consider t b trues gamers , come in spending insane amounts of money on predatory systems and by doing so further encourage greedy game companies to keep designing their games with such systems in mind, even as far as abandoning their core fanbase for a few whales...and with gaming becoming so popular now , u got more and more casuals supporting this horrible predatory systems while core fans and gamers suffer d consequences, and lets not forget d brainless shills with their brainless takes like "if u dont like it, don't buy it" cos that going to solve anything. For a time i used t b someone that spent lots of money in games, but not cos i wanted to, but bcos sometimes u get to a point were d game company sayz "fuk u" and u can almost cant make progress in d game unless u spend money or wait a million years while waiting and hoping that RNG favors u or make d game a second job......Things like this this are everywhere now but used t b exclusive to mmo games which used t b my fav games n now i have zero interest in almost all upcoming ones cos i already know what to expect and it sickens me that it has become like a norm now. Sure i cud just keep flushing money down d drain by supporting such game companies, but i got t a point were i just cud not do it anymore ....LOL, i swear one day i woke up and decided no more and now we got d same crap even in single player games too so no place is of limit. I dont mind spending a bit of money long as d games are really good, not buggy, quality....honestly even if there ws monetization, i understand that companies have to make money, but it has t b fair and reasonable but at this rate only government intervention can bring an end to this , but that comes with its own set of serious problems too..remember when they used to blame violence on video games ?? sure seems like a losing war, like trading one evil for another.

Mark my words, there is going to come a time here within the next 5-10 years, when the new trend for the "kids" will be "Retro Games" aka, all of the old good stuff. AAA publishers will be sitting and scratching their heads wondering why they would want to play a game with such "poor" graphics. They will play them because... wait for it... FUN. I almost can't believe that Xbox & Microsoft even care about game's anymore? Which is CRAZY because I LOVED the original Xbox and the Xbox 360. *How is Xbox putting so much time & money into producing nothing & never coming off like they even CARE? What happened? They bought all these companies FOR WHAT? Ever since Xbox has bought companies, they haven't produced anything.. why is Xbox "satisfied" with the state of things? They should be very vocal about they are Not okay with this and They should be open to the public about how & what they are thinking about doing to improve this... They literally gave 343 so much money to drive a staple game into the ground. Yet Xbox seems fine with continuing to fund them, to not communicate to the public and to not listen to fans and their customers. It really isn't difficult to find ways to improve this situation. Just look at what made so many people love things and have so much fun and tap back into that. Give players options. Give them different modes. Give them abilities to play against bots. Offline modes. Co-op modes, local split screen multiplayer. Creative unique story mode. A sandbox of options and custom game modes to play. The ability to customize their character. (Charge for the game instead of making a "free to play game" with everything else being locked behind a paywall or just completely lacking from the game entirely. Even tho in previous years games they included so much more options and diversity.) People just want to have fun. Is it THAT HARD for gaming companies to put aside Greed that ironically is causing so much failure *Instead of just remembering that if a company makes a FUN GAME, people will LOVE to play it and share it with their friends and talk about it and it all comes back around to equal good things. Why has modern gaming forgotten so much about what made gaming successful? I have been going back and playing my old games on my old consoles and realizing just how much I loved gaming before this new era came out. I really hope that game companies can realize that because the potential is limitless with today's current capabilities hardware/software wise. With the right mindset and approach, some of the best games ever could be created.

I want to point out that the main reason why MW2R dint have an MP is cuz of MW22 Speaking of MW22 its such a bad game That i had to buy MWR insted and yet people just accept it and activison keep saying this is the most "Advanced" cod in history with 3K devs when in reality CODM (and Advanced warfare) is more advanced than MW22 Side note they also claim MW22 theme is better than OG when OG theme made by Hans zimmer is always superior they just used the MW2 brand for marketing when the game itself dint feel like a Modern warfare game with no factions and American missions In terms of BF2042 it should have been a game changer like BF1 simply combined 3 4 Hardline 1 and V but they just had to copy cod

Well said man. I’ve argued with many of these ‘manchilds’ you speak of. I’ve argued with COD fans for example who will defend Activision’s predatory business practices, such as aggressive Skill Based Matchmaking (sbmm). They will say that I’m bad and that I just need to get better at the game even though I’m at least in the top 5% of players in terms of skill. It’s funny how all these fortnite kids have been subdued by these large corporations, defending them completely for free like they have some kind of emotional attachment. It’s fucking weird man. It’s consumerism at its worst. Spending hours on end grinding for loot boxes isn’t enough, so they argue with people online because it provides yet another thing for them to do, more stimulus for their craved minds. Definitely a Reddit/discord moderator type beat.

Your absolutely on the money, modern gaming is mostly garbage just to squeeze your wallets. I don’t play games like halo/Fortnite/etc cause thankfully there not my thing but I can see how kids can get suckered into thinking this is normal. I’ve been playing elder scrolls online for the past 8 years and the greed in the cash shop has just gotten to the point I don’t want to play it anymore. It used to be that the game rewarded you pretty well for doing stuff (like complete a certain raid/dungeon etc) but now you get nothing and it’s all straight to the cash shop, and yet you see on social media people lap it up as soon as any decent cosmetic is put up for sale. People willingly spending £20-30 weekly on absolute rubbish again and again. I’ve got to say I’m happy I’ve never brought myself a battlepass though Great video, subbed

Hollow Knight and Terraria are the best values I’ve ever ever had in a game and they will forever be my favorite titles. Why? Because they let me buy their game and then proceeded to just let me enjoy it. Nothing after the purchase was nagging me to buy anything else or tempting me with micro-transactions. Hollow Knight had great DLC and I was happy to buy it. Terraria released on multiple platforms and I continued to buy it and play it and sink hundreds of hours into it. It has given almost a decade of free updates and it still gives. Those developers cared about making something beautiful and they deserve your money, because they weren’t trying to rob you. Many modern companies are trying to rob you and they’re not even hiding it anymore

It sure is brother. I remember being a kid in the late 90s early 2000s and gaming was I would say nearing its peak. Half life hit the market and i was playing that game for hours. Halo ce came out and we had Return to castle wolfenstein and enemy territory which was pretty big back then. I played the snot out of that game for years. Then I kinda lost touch with gaming until the mid 2010s. A lot has changed. But now, forget about it. Games are coming out and they are garbage right out of the gate. The AAA games now are just a joke. Completely empty, but you can spend tons of money on stuff that you used to get for free. Greed will eventually kill gaming.

I've come to similar conclusions myself with me having to fallback on games that were made before that whole controversy started there are a few exceptions in my book including Cyberpunk 2077, ESO, and a few others but still other games that came out like recent including Forspoken have lost that sense of immersion and diversity that they once had in the past mostly being either rushed for full of microtransactions and now especially with a gaming Titian such as Halo pretty much gone I am not really that hopeful for the future. And I also get what you mean by people acting like man children my generation has been brainwashed in a way that it doesn't make any sense to me at least. It's not all of them but some of them. I do agree with pretty much all the points you make and I do think this issue does need to be addressed more sense it has been a problem and would definitely explain the quality of some games. I have been playing halo and I have actually gotten lots of cosmetics, such as the special Oreo skin. Now I don't see that problem with having the game free, but with a store it makes the game free to new generation and spreads the enjoyment of halo. Here is an example, I was a kid and really didn't know or actually care about halo bc I thought it was a boring shooter game. With there not being a pay wall it open up halo and introduced it to me, which I am truly thankful. Have a wonderful day 😀

Well thank you for being civil. But my issue with the free to play model is it is exploited and goes too far. If it was free to play with multiplayer, and if you paid for campaign you got all the cosmetics I'd say fine. Even if it was paid multiplayer and a $20 fee for all the cosmetics ok maybe. But the way they do it right now is just wrong especially for a franchise that never had this in the past. I haven't purchased a video game in a long time. I honestly don't care about it anymore. I got recommended this video since I'm watching a few halo videos to see what happened to the franchise. Back when I was a kid, I looked forward to games like Halo Reach and Black ops 2. Looking back it's a stupid hobby anyways. These people look down on you and your community because you're literally giving cash away to play pretend in a world they created. The creators of these games work horribly long hours, and are treated like crap by corporate executives, and the reason why is because they're halfwits who can only produce a pig slop product. If they could do any better, they'd be making $300k as a professional software engineer instead of $60k producing a bug ridden mess on a crap timeline. "Gamers" are the only people who will consume pig slop. Same shit with movies. I'm sorry but to be honest, I'd say you should just pick a different hobby. Start reading, maybe start playing guitar or something and then make some music. Have the world listen to your soul rather than complaining about an empty corporation who would murder you on live television if it raised their stock price.
@BrokenCircle1
@BrokenCircle1 Год назад
I do read but I see what you're saying. A few years ago I was actually of the same mindset, I was very bitter and fed up and I walked away from gaming for a while. I disagree with the developers being halfwits. Some of them are for sure but I think some of them have a genuine passion for making cool games that has been exploited and crushed by big corporations. The problem is gaming has become far too corporatized nowadays and is all about profit, in a way it has become full circle. Back in the day I never liked video games. I thought it was a waste of time and money, I mean many arcade levels were designed to be nearly unbeatable to extract more money from the player. Then the late 90s came in and you had more viable home games. Games you payed for once and had access to everything. I love those. Now it is going back to pay for play direction.

Amidst all the controversy there's a lot of videos being made on it, and yours came up in my recommendation. I read the title and was interested enough to take a quick glance. I was motivated to comment from the fact that so many people nowadays complain about how downhill the gaming industry has gone, but they'll still continue to support it enough by playing and purchasing the games. Isn't the easiest solution to simply stop playing and divert your life towards hobbies and products that aren't trying to scam you? Things that don't over promise and under deliver? That's simply the purpose behind my comment; make some discussion. Just because your content doesn't necessarily appeal to me doesn't mean I can't give an opinion; and It's not like it's wildly off topic either. Still, I like watching critiques, retrospectives, and analysis' of some games because as I said, as a piece of art video games definitely bring some value that's worth analysing.
