this laptop come with this ryzen 5 7520u, while the name is deceiving with ryzen 7000 tag, it is actually a 4 core zen 2 refresh. It comes with rdna 2 graphics, but only 2 gpu cores and really low clock frequency, so it is worse than old school vega 6 and really not ideal for gaming. Also, the ram would have to be soldered down as it *ONLY* supports LPDDR5 ram with no support of ddr4/ddr5.

A few things to note... 1) The RAM is soldered because it's _LPDDR5_ instead of standard DDR5, also hence the weird-ish speed of 5500. 2) Despite being _labeled_ as a Ryzen 7000 series, which would imply Zen 4, it appears AMD has learned a thing or two from Intel. The 7520U is based on Zen 2, which is quite unfortunate. 3) To add to the disappointment, this chip comes with Radeon 610M graphics, which are at least RDNA2, but effectively the same as the IGP built into desktop Zen 4 chips like the 7600(X). In other words, on par with an R7 250. From 2013.

I was so emotionally invested in the RAM upgrade by the end of the gaming segment, I didn't realize I was at the end of the video runtime, so the end came quick and abrupt. Asus really needs to get into the naughty corner for this. At least solder the ram in a single channel and give a second for upgrade man...

8:39 You cant blame Asus for soldering the RAM down. This is because of the AMD 7020 series CPU , which must run only on LPDDR5-5500 (it is written on AMD's website as such) , that has to be soldered down. Besides that, this series of CPU runs on a 64 bit memory bus, which means equivalent terms of a single channel memory .

I use a numpad and I feel offended. I make animations, so I use the numpad for my hotkeys and shortcuts. Very useful since I don't have to it alt+, shift+, or ctrl+.

to be fair at 2:01 when showing off the hardware sticker, on the RAM it says "RAM:LPDDR5 8G (ON BD)" which means on board and should have already put Asus in the naughty corner from the start

I have the Vivobook pro 15x with Ryzen 9 5900HX and RTX 3050Ti. It's OLED, thin, lightweight, and oh boy it performs well for the size. One thing I don't like is that because it is thin the two fans have to spin like crazy to keep my baby cool. Yeah so the fans wear out.

My zen book 15 has an oled and it’s gorgeous. I hate that asus has non upgradeable ram tho. Funny video as always.

Soldering RAM there kinda sucks but at least they didn't solder storage, and, you know, pair encrypted partitions to the firmware, so that you can't boot to an external drive if the internal SSD no longer works... There's only one brand that does that and effectively gets away with it, because people don't know enough. And this brand deserves way more than being in the naughty corner!

So if you go to the link in the description, grab the part# and chase it down to Asus website you find the model and hands down the most confusing ram description they possibly could have written. But you can change the NVME, unlike an Macbook, where it'll just ruin the drive through paging, and then refuse to boot. Better than a Macbook is a low bar of course.

What you should do when gaming with these amd apus is: first play with the charger plugged and then search in bios some performance mode that usually boosts the tdp which these apus really benefits from

I own the R5 5600H for a while and i love it. Alot of editing and occasional Fortnite, and the only few drawbacks are the soldered 8gb which means 16gb max in dual channel, and the temperatures get over 90 degrees which are normal for the cpu but i would've love to be lower, but you pay for the display and the rest is just there.

I really hope that someday Dawid secretly eliminates companies that use soldered ram

Asus generally makes it clear which of their laptops have upgradeable ram which aren't many of them. Most laptops have been trending to soldered RAM and I have mixed feelings. On one hand I like upgrading my stuff on the other I honestly thing the average consumer should never open a laptop. I've seen too many people do stupid things while trying to teach them how to service their computers. So Much that I've given up and if anyone not tech savvy asks me what laptop to buy my answer is straight up a MacBook of some sort.

Good stuff you covering this product to warn people not to buy it. Horrible mentality to build something fairly expensive that will already be outdated at the day of launch. Should be illegal to solder components that otherwise will be upgraded down the line. Goes for CPU as well. Edit: I also learned from the specs that it's only a 60 Hz panel. Not sure why anyone would want it with these sacrifices. I know it's not a gaming PC, but everything flows so nicely at >90 Hz, especially on OLED.

The RAM of Zen 2 based on 7000 series / 7020 series much more likely isn't possible doing any standard upgrade because of only LPDDR5-5500 is supported

I'd always go for 16GB of RAM if it's not upgradable. I once made the mistake of buying a notebook with 8GB of soldered RAM and I'll never do it again lol.

Doom crashed on you because it needs more RAM. 16GB is the new minimum for most games. This laptop only has 8Gb, and we can see even in a roblox graphics game like battlebit on potato setting, its STILL using 7Gb of ram. (Possibly due to integrated graphics, meaning if theirs not enough vram on the gpu, its spills over into system ram)

Soldered ram is common on these ultra thin devices. I have a lenovo yoga 730, and a dell lattitude tablet, same exact way. Soldered ram, but you can upgrade the nvme.

This processor was designed for Chromebooks, it has no real usability for for running local apps whatsoever.

I got a $500 HP laptop recently. Whenever you tap the bottom corner of it, it’ll freeze, have graphical artifacts, and now it’ll restart. I tried to replace the RAM, and it’s also soldered in.

Definitely try the km513 model of oled asus laptop. it has a upgradeable 16 gb ram and sata expansion albeit with smaller battery. also it has older ryzen 5 5500u processor. it also has one more USB port.

Hmm, when it says LPDDR5 RAM (LP for low power), then, yes, it's soldered on the motherboard. You didn't see this on the Amazon page? To be fair, I noticed other Asus Vivobook clamshells (16", non-oled) that had soldered RAM and a single SODIMM socket for expansion.

It's amazing the jump in quality from their Vivobooks to their Zenbooks. For not THAT much more Asus has some incredibly well made machines in the Zenbook line.

i have the mid-spec vivobook oled 15 version with a 13500H i5 and rtx 3050. it isnt marketed as a gaming laptop, more so as a productivity/rendering laptop. it can technically game but dont expect it to run rings around a gaming laptop. for using it as a productivity laptop its great - good performance, fabulous screen and good enough battery life. also the mid and higher spec variants have a 90hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio too, along with a 2.8k display edit : yes, the ram is soldered so its wise to pick up the 16gb ram version from the start

The real bad thing besides the Ram, it's the APU choice with the lowest 600m series, only 2 CU. Could be a good budget oled laptop if it had another U processors series with at least the 660m with 6 CU for a very casual gaming and everyday use

I''ve got myself Vivobook 15x Oled with Ryzen 5600H and 16GB ram (8 soldered and one memory stick) and I'm quite happy with it. Obviously, I do not game on it but it is more than enough to work on it, watch youtube, surf the internet, etc. while away from my PC. Display looks crisp and smooth no wonder with 2880x1620 resolution in just 15 inches with 120Hz and the colors of that oled are amazing. For me it is a tool for a certain tasks and those tasks doesn't include gaming. As for build quality, well, not to say it's outright bad but it isn't good either, indeed feels like a midrange laptop from 2011.

Thank god for the available 16GB RAM models of this exact laptop available in my country. That too for a decent price. Still sucks to see ASUS keeps the RAM on-board, instead of having one at least upgradable and freed up for expandability and upgradability. But yeah, am considering getting this with the 16GB model.

What's the specs of the OLED and the RAM? It'd be nice to know the refresh rate as well as the *TYPE and SPEED* of the RAM. I'm guessing it's some sort of LPDDR5X RAM which would explain why it's soldered on. You can't have LPDDR5 or LPDDR5X RAM in SODIMM form, so I wouldn't put Asus in the naughty corner if it's using low-power RAM for better battery life and possibly higher speed memory.

I bought a 14" laptop recently and I went to great efforts making sure that the models that I shortlisted had expandable RAM. It's difficult thing to know. At the end of the day, most modern laptops won't let you expand your RAM down the road... So sad, just a stupid way to kneecap a laptop's lifespan. My last one lasted me for 9 years, and I mainly changed it because of the 720p display. I hope my new one has a long life too. Expandable RAM is one way to assure it.

This would have been a much better laptop only if they allowed an extra ram slot but hey, in India, we have offers going on for vivobook like $40 for 3 years of laptop protection plan from spillage and damage adn things I guess, so thats a huge plus tbh (and after watching this video, I think it really needs that protection plan)

haw haw haw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad you are super up front about the fact that Corsair RGB gubbins are more expensive than all other RGB gubbins in the world. Seriously, corsair has a desktop RGB "stick" thingy that's just a car aerial sized thing with a few dozen LEDs in it for $200. Seriously, if you want great RGB crap that you can sync with your PC, get Govee branded RGBIC (their version of ARGB) light strips (or triangles or hexagons, or lines) that use Razer chroma sync. WAY brighter and WAY cheaper than any of corsair's low wattage guff. Don't get me wrong, the Corsair stuff is decent, just not for that price. And the wattage is embarassing. My Govee neon RGBIC light strips sync with Razer Chroma, cost $80 and is 48 watts. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to mod my etch-a-sketch with an OLED panel, BECAUSE. Sorry, though, i had to stop watching, because I don't need a lecture about why i need an OLED panel on my biday\microwave\cat, and the ad took up more time, and by the time the video gets to the hot penetrative action, my boner will be gone, and like i said, i've gotta install my etch-a-sketch OLED while I'm still hard. Sorry, I'll check out your next video as long as it's over 10 minutes long, because I'm not going to pop a viagra for just 9:46 of action. I'm not a monster.

Usually i wont recommend my friends and family just because of this sorted ram. Even tho hardware is good for the price most of people won't dig deep enough to find out whether the ram is upgradable or not on the device because they usually are. Also that crappy Ryzen 7000 series naming is just bad. Ryzen 5 7520u means its on zen 2 architecture. But heck even Ryzen 5 4500u is much better than that 7520u crap. Rx 610 graphics just has 2 CU process all. Even tho its on new RDNA 2 architecture vega 8 is much better.

I have the Zenbook version of this with the 13500h and it's pretty cool. I got the 8gb of RAM version because it's mostly an email and RU-vid machine, and it's been great. The OLED is v fun

These lower end vivobooks really target people who just use their laptops to check facebook, not outstanding power and build The higher end vivobooks are nicer though, competent little thin creator laptops, i have a mid range vivobook (500 dollars) from 2020 with a shit screen but the specs are nice, r7 4800HS, 16gb DDR4 3200 upgradeable to 40gb, and vega 6 iGPU which for me as an artist is enough but the screen is really dissapointing, even for a low end laptop

The DDR5 RAM in the ASUS laptop was not upgradable because the speed of the memory. I don't remember the specific details, but I have a laptop with DDR5 RAM but it is 4800 MT/s, however, my laptop RAM is upgradable. I am pretty sure it is a power related issue with SODIMM slots where the RAM has to be soldered because of power draw. I hope this helps. :D

Lesson learned: do not buy the cheapest OLED laptop! Ryzen 7520 (according to the 3rd number) uses ryzen 2000 series cores in the CPU that's why it's that slow in games. The price of this Vivobook is CAD $ 800. Just for a 100 Canadian Buckaroos more I got the Asus Zenbook 14X OLED. It is LIGHTYEARS better! It has a 2880 x 1800 , 90Hz OLED screen, Ryzen 5800H, 16Gb 4266Mhz Ram, came with 512 Nvme SSD (upgraded it to a 2TB 970 Evo plus), fingerprint reader in the power button, number pad in the trackpad, all around excellent build quality (no plastic at all), easily openable with 1 finger, the screen is touch enabled, goes back 180 degrees, and Stylus pen also works on it. Came with a nice sleeve in the box and upon registration to Asus website I got 1 year accidental damage protection for FREE!

Still waaaay better than my older laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad 5i Flex 2020. i5 Intel CPU with 1ghz base speed and 3.3ghz boost speed (that instantly thermal throttles) and of course integrated graphics that allow you to play games at 30fps lowest settings. It has a terrible 300 nit IPS display (reds looks pink) and soldered RAM, not great for gaming, multiple college projects, or advanced 3D modeling. All for $700. Thankfully, newer models are better, but I now have a Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7 3080ti that I got on sale. It has a pretty good 500 nit IPS display (almost as good as OLED). Not cheap, but cheaper than $3600. I could have waited a few months for a 4090 series laptop that was 5% more expensive (about $3200), but rumors said that laptops would be more than $4000). Yes, I know about people complaining about not enough VRAM, but it has importance outside of gaming, too. And considering the price-to-performance ratio (among other things), $3000 isn't the worst, considering that most high-end laptops aren't going to be cheaper than that.

I have a Vivobook S 14X, bought it for the screen, hate the rest with passion (especially the logo bump). Mine have the R7 6800H 8C/16T coupled with the RX680 iGPU which is a BEAST but clock in at 45W and have LESS ventilation slots, so you know, it behave like the few last generations of Intel MacBook Pro... But you know, it have a Samsung made 2.5K HDR OLED panel...

Check the k3402za / k3502za and m3402qa / m3402qa vivobook s series. They are much better choice with 2.8k oled and an upgradeable slot additionally to soldered ram. Also they have ryzen 5600h/5800h and intel i5-12500h/ i7-12700h cpu variants for similar price. Btw, you can change oled color profile withy myAsus appliation.
