On card 3 with the meteor from the left, should red not have been able to shoot the meteor with her cannon on the row above?

Small meteors cannot be shot by lasers - they move too fast. They can only be protected against with shields.

no worries. Check the icons on the central game board. It shows the effect of both small and large meteors
