I agree. Never read the books and before this scene I only thought of him as a selfish being. That one line changed my mind, regardless of what happened later on.
davidsonbasser Boromir was another good man who just got corrupted by the damn ring, but it only revealed after his death, and it was mainly in the book.
I actually really liked Boromir. I thought he was a good symbol of humanity as a species. Good in nature, Boromir was, but fairly easily corrupted. Tolkien is a genius

I loss my brother to Cancer back in 2016. I haven't been able to listen to this song for years without breaking down crying. We both enjoyed and grew up watching L.O.T.R. and Harry Potter, but now it's not the same without him.😔
I cried like a bitch the first time I read a part in the book where they recited a poem about Gandalf... after his death. And it was in my high school libraly, so people around me was like "wtf is wrong with this dude?".
This is one of the single most beautiful soundtracks i have ever had the pleasure to listen to. The Lord of the Rings is without a doubt one of the greatest milestones in both literary and cinematic history, a masterpiece from any perspective. Thank you Tolkien and thank you Peter for offering us two equally unforgettable works of art.
This song played while he fell. The beard was moving in the wind while he fell. Behind him was the bane of many dwarves before and with him fell the hope of the entire group. He was the pillar, the rock, the mountain that stood between them and the horror that was the dark lord. When they set off he was the leader but when they left the dark place he was gone. How could they continue? How could they go on knowing that the man that was supposted to be the light was no longer with them? They had to walk.. one step at the time because behind them was the forces of darkness and at sundown they would swarm the hills as locust in the field in their hunt for those who crossed them. They had to move.. Leave their leader and all time friend behind.. His sacrifice would not be forgotten and would not be in vain. Between the tears they walked and soon ran. There were no time for mourning. They had a mission.. The fate of the world was on their little shoulders and so they continued... Now without their friend. Who they had to leave behind. Forever falling in the darkness.

Never have I seen a more perfect cast for a movie. In some movies u can say"Man i really think they should have cast 'random actor' as the lead role"; but for the Lord of the Rings movies I could not see anyone else play the roles other than the ones chosen for it. its as if they were born to act in these movies.
I'm currently losing my dad to terminal cancer and it's killing me. I'm not coping with it well at all. This song brings me much needed comfort. Bittersweet. Cherish the time you have with your loved ones, because they might not be here tomorrow.

Eagles are the servants of Manwe, one of the Valar. Long before the War of the Ring, the Valar had decided not to be involved with the happenings in Middle Earth. Sending Eagles to help them destroy the ring would be against that, but saving Frodo and Sam's life after they destroyed it is not.

Ok so I thought this was completely instrumental but I was also surprised when Frodo screamed, it completely took me out of the music. And then I scrolled down to read the comments to see if anyone else got scared and the comments made me laugh so hard I started crying. Now I can't take this song seriously.
I saw your message before I heard him scream so it prepared me for it, but I think it kinda fits. It might have been different had I not expected Frodo to scream lol
you are in the hospital. you wake up... you feel pain everywhere... you try to cry out. you can’t speak. a nurse walks in.. she freaks out and call’s the doctors.. you feel light headed... you can’t feel anything except pain. you’re eye’s close. you are not on this world anymore. you are in heaven. a angel walks up and lead’s you in.. the gates close and you don’t feel pain anymore... you are now happy.
This is a very moving scene: when I read it some 40yrs ago I threw down the book and wept for 48hrs. It was like I'd lost my grandad! I love the way Peter Jackson handled this scene, it could have been absurd or grandiose in less steady hands. One point though, the title of your video makes me laugh every time I watch it!
I play this song every July 19th in remembrance of my grandfather, a ww2, Korea, and Vietnam veteran, a man that lead my family through the darkness, a man that raised me to be who I am today, he was my Gandalf and since his passing I have only wanted to see him again

thatdronekid if you ever do become a big director, please, PLEASE always remember music is what completes a movie. The Lord of the Rings would not be what it is without the soundtrack. Star Wars wouldn't be what it is without the soundtrack. Through music the audience remembers scenes and characters better.

I STILL cry when Gandalf dies, and I’ve seen this movie at least 50 times-read the books at least 5. Damn...Frodo screaming “No!” Hobbits crying...Aragorn’s stunned running. It just gets me right in the feels. 😢
I watched this scene in the theater and in front of me were three mega fans, a girl sitting between two guys, all dressed in full LOTR regalia. When Gandalf slipped into the void, the girl screamed "GANDALF NOOOO!" and she began to cry. With tears welling in my own eyes I thought, "Will we ever see the like of this kind of film again? This masterpiece of a generation?" That my friends, is the powerful combination of books, music and cinema. And if there was ever a soundtrack for the world at this moment in time, "The Death of Gandalf" would be the music I would pick. The world sorely needs its heroes now.
How many Gandalfs fell in our lives, anonymous heroes, hard working fathers and mothers, faithful friends, wives and husbands, beloved children. God bless you dear mother, you were the light of my life, and I'm still guided to the end of my journey by your example, and I saw you happy and joyful.

no new hobbit films contrast to this amazing film of such heartache and beauty. one of the most beautiful songs and films ever made. it was used in a tribute to robin williams which i made to show how someone so special and someone who means alot to you is taken away by the heartache of this world we live in. i cry everytime
