Memories of growing up in Boyle Heights. More Boyle Heights videos are coming up soon. Big thank you to Ronin Gray ( / roninbaptiste ) Check out his youtube channel for music videos ( / domoretalkless ) My Instagram ( / thehoodvlogs )
The College Park Gang (aka the Matranga family) were the first gang in Boyle Heights and they also controlled the Italian enclave from the plaza to Lincoln heights in the year 1888. They were direct descendents of the first Mafia family of New Orleans. Peter Matranga was their leader until the great war of 1906 when the North End Gang led by Joe Ardizzone killed them off by the year 1920. Gangs like Clovers, Dog Town, and Alpine Street that formed in the early 1900s were second to the original Italian black hand gangs. Boyle Heights is deep in gang history but people fail to recognize the Italians were running things first here. Victor Matranga committed the first drive by shooting in Los Angeles in 1906 when he rode a bicycle up main street and shot Joseph Cuccia on his horse and buggy. I have a film script already written about the war between the North End Gang vs the College Park Gang if anyone is interested.
The books are called O'gz from Los LoL. My English teacher in Lincoln high school knew alot she was Italian. She drop knowledge back in 1999. Her name was ms Ross
No he’s racist and not all Caucasians that are ALLOWED TO LIVE OR Move back to the neighborhood our/my ancestors built are wealthy??! I’m low income so screw That. And I’m Not afraid to say This is my neighborhood TOO! Getting along and not spreading hate against what you call “whites” (so UNEDUCATED Btw)! Is the appropriate way to see things. Dialogue. Talking. Not judging “White=rich or = “privileged” - I had to work and am still in debt for my college education. I never received a Free Education. Now that’s what I call receiving “privilege”
Tripped out when I found this video I've been knowing this homie since 1st grade that's my neighborhood were this video was filmed east side KAM13 hes definately been in that area his whole life he could talk from first hand knowledge that's why it flows so clear and smooth and you know he seen it with his own eyes thumbs up ED.good shit
3:13 Where he starts talking about everyone being friends until they get to middle school. That’s the honest truth. I remember in Lynwood we knew a bunch of homeboys, once we hit middle and hs, yeah we started beefing. Sad reality.
The homie beefed it with a dude that would come over to his house and play n64 back in elementary. Both of their parents would get along as well. Sad world.
Petronilo Rodriguez playin freeze tag goin to lunch munchin out on some actual good school food life ain’t had no problem except waiting to go play outside then u grow up and your neighborhood separates who u used to be with
The baggy clothes came from poor families buying bigger clothes so they can last longer and be "hand me downs" for the younger siblings. The khakis came about because that's what was available at the surplus stores. The army navy surplus stores where the cheapest place to buy clothes. The Pendleton or flannel jackets we're pretty much all you needed in Southern California you didn't need a big coat like you did in the Midwest and East and like typical Mexican kids they put their flare on it and made it look good. And again this is all right after World War II.
one of your best interviews yet! That man kicked some knowledge could listen to him talk for hours.. He has a lot more to say bro you should do a part 2 with him
More of these please. All for recovery and a better life but shit when I’m at work and can only listen to videos. Makes you wish there was more OG gang and prison stories to hear on RU-vid. It’s interesting
I'm japanese and white and my sister and then brother when he was alive was white and mexican. They lived in Pacoima when I lived in Hawaii. They were 13 years older than me and I always wish I knew more about the mexican history. Thank you for opening a door into what I missed from my half brother. But he's my full brother cause I treated him like that. I have a lot of respect for Mexicans. Stay classy.
Your channel has been extremely educational and helped me better understand the streets in your videos, I went from an outsider with only assumptions to a basic level of understanding the forces at play that lead to the way things are and now it makes much more sense
U can tell OG speaking facts from shit he has been through and witnessed. ✊🏼 Respect not from LA I’m from Santa Ana OC I’m pushing 40 I can tell his stories are real because I gone through similar situations and U know who is real and who is fake. Keep the good content coming.
Well done! This dude and ronin are very cool and honest cats. No frontin of any kind. The kind of ppl you want on your team, indeed. Great job Hood Vlogs
That's how i too remembered those days. Mid 80s to early 90s. It was on and crackin. Not like these days. There were some mean streets all over LA. Real good interview. Just the facts.
I wish ur videos were longer. Luv them thoe. I like how u show not the bad side but the history and how there just regular people and this is how they grew up. Unlike the news and the documentaries shows negative side.
Great interview, great dialogue and overall great history of the area gang lifestyle. The main speaker touched on jobs in the area. Me being Mexican growing up in a predominantly Chicano area of the IE, it’s true what he said about good jobs in the hood were to land a city job, a state job, high level government job for us Latinos. I completely understand that. Great job HoodVlogs!!
Boyle Heights !!! I grew up in all hoods there except KAM hood . Lived in wyvernwood ! Played at Costello! And Garcia Park! Lived in White Fence hood for 7 years and played at el Hoyo a lot ! Yes the gangs are still there but the people there are amazing families ! Not all Hood politics! ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL HAHA! La Mascota! RIP to 24hrs Nachos !
Yea I heard the 24 hr was gone. Crazy. What about the Pioneer Chicken? I know the check cashing used to be the old Mobil gas station. Member that? U member!! Lol
A very well spoken homey, a perfect example of intelligence combined with street smarts, everything he said made so much sense, I enjoyed listening to his words, much respects.
Love coming back to this video every once in a while and hearing how it was back in the day. I never banged but a few of my friends eventually joined Marianna Maravilla in high school, and my dad has been living in East LA since 1965 and he told me how the vatos from Arizona MV would be lifting beer off of the deli where he worked at on Kern and Hubbard haha.
Great interview. Speaking facts here only. Growing up my dad would tell me the same thing you're saying with all the gang and everything. I loved this. Grew up in Boyle Heights, and it would always be a part of me.
no he just loves in Boyle heights all his life. but I'll tell you what the vatos from KAM didn't know he was a WF member cause I know for a fact that a couple of hommies from KAM know him since they were young and they asked him if he was from WF and he denied it.
.... oh krazy shit, my fam was from 3rd St. or a.k.a. 'TERCERA'... ppl move away, some grow up & some dont and choose to keep living the Gang life, but thats the way it goes... but no matter what Gangs will ALWAYS be around, its just different Generations.... great video bro;) 👌👍 * i have some awesome Memories growing up in Boyle Heights & wouldnt have it any other way!!! ;)
My grandfather was born in east Los 1940 . He had a storefront on first street In the 1960s . In 1969 he moved from LA Santa Barbara. These are my roots . Viva la Raza
Good historic information of the culture. I was born there and really don’t remember too much. The tagging crews and break dancers were the kids who got influenced by the gangs
What's up. What your doing is fuckin cool. I'm from Orange County, and that Chicano lifestyle/look was always facsinating to me. I'm white but it grabbed me. I live out in Kentucky now, so you have fans from all over. Keep up the good work.
@HoodVlogs could you do more videos with this O.G. and others like him? These are the best kind of videos, also videos of homies giving tours of their barrio..😎👍
Great video. I miss my roots, being an Active duty Army soldier, I hate going home and seeing my streets destroyed or being sold to the upper class. I own a home in East Los and the OG is right, area's are changing. I was born in 88, and I've seen alot of my stomping ground being sold or changing. You can't claim a block if you ain't a property owner. These young kids need to enter college and hustle.
Bunch of malarky but Don't let any of this distract you from the fact that Hulk Hogan body slammed Andre the Giant on March 29th 1987 at Pontiac Silverdome during WrestleMania 3 in front of 93,137 people!
I grew up in BH in Aliso Pico and it was ghetto. I remember as a kid to strive and eventually move to the suburbs. We were told to move out because of gang violence. We as law-abiding citizens we're not the problem and should have given a shit and purchased in this community. The problem was all those gang members who terrorized the community and they are the ones who should have moved out. I hope they realize what treasure they have. I regret not buying a home in BH.
I have a new album coming out called "ER vs RG". Right now we are shooting visuals for the album to help market and promo. Its a joint album. It should be out January 2019
Yo ronin watch out with this interview from russia There trying to find out what's in the hoods Around the USA we had the same interview Type in Camden new jerz he was asking questions Off camera it didn't work out to good for him come to find out he was a plant From KGB agents and told us he getting intelligence from the hoods around us because China and Russian will be invading These city's when the war starts and we're Is hot spot in the area to kill off. You like a smart man and he side that the Democratic Party was helping them with this shit that way they are thanking guns on the border states ny ,nj,ca,wa, so and so on with gun Control
Gotta love the older HOMMIES that have the knowledge where these youngins come from, I'm only 30 but I feel like I have to school some youngins around my way.. 💛🇵🇷👑🤟🖤 and what bro said about music, sports, etc for kids are GONE replaced with pawn shops & liqour stores!!
Holy shit. From NY had so many fucking questions growing up on american me and blood in blood out. Answered every question i had with your vlogs. Thank you brother.
Wyvernwood Gardens alumni here. Dacotah elementary, Hollenbeck and Roosevelt. Grew up going to fines market on soto and olympic 8 times a day to buy the frijoles and tortillas everyday lol! Great memories!
💯Good Interview homeboy is speaking facts in general....Some of the hispanic gangs started out as stoners first as well..and Others like Mc force & the LA tiny boys were break dancers..the TMCs & Boyle Heights13 and a few others were the floor masters...Who remembers the Floor Masters breaking contest at the hollenbac gym?..Who remembers when the movie break'n was filmed at the Miracle build'n in White Fence hood? Im from Aliso East Coast Crip... 80s raised..I went to Hollenbecx ..Brought bac a few memories from my journeys up the hill as a kid.
Yes my older who is 50yrs old now told me the same about the crazy riders which was the gang he use to claim on the west side MacArthur park area west lake where Ms and 18th is at he told me they started of as dancers and where being bullied by them so they started there own and went at it against the mega powers.... good interview keep up the good work
@@selacalifas5390 Nope!! the 3rd generation were Stoners. the first gen were Guerrilla Fighters who fled El Salvador and the second generation were kids who fled El Salvador and when they first got here they were bullied and so they followed the first-generations footsteps. All the crazy stuff you hear about MS like the beheadings and burnings all came from the first two generations.
@@DBCooper363 Dog Town is older White Fence. White Fence started in about 1910. The only distinction that white fence has is that they started off as a Hispanic gang we're as all the other gangs started off as white gangs.
I was born and raised in Boyle heights lived there till I was 23 luckily my mom kept me busy putting me in sports since I was a kid I’m thankful for that because some of my homies didn’t have someone to do that for them a lot of them joined Gangs or tagging crews in middle school and now some of them ain’t here with us today RIP David aka cutz RIP Jefferson god bless there souls young forever 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Damm!! Great to hear and see….. My family’s been in Boyle heights since 1940’s and still strong!! Only ones born and raised in Boyle heights understand what it is to survive!!!Still own property where Mickey Cohen lived, gangster from New York 1940’s.. love the hood!! ❤️ ❤️
