I tried shooting my Glock 21 sideways once. When all the hot casings landed on me I never did it again.

A little known fact about the reason behind 'sideways' shooting. A major factor in accuracy is trigger control. Many inexperienced shooters tend to push or pull their shots either left or right caused by gripping the weapon too tightly or just holding it wrong. Turning the weapon sideways pushes or pulls the shots up or down. The shooter is not aiming with sights, rather aiming down the side of the slide. The margin of error is slightly smaller making it more likely to hit your target since almost everyone is taller than they are wide. Something I picked up about 40 years ago. cheers!

If you push the gun forward whilst doing all those thing you’d gain velocity and distance. I thought that was common gangster knowledge. You’ve got to push those bullets down range.

I mean, I realize that Jerry is an amazing Marksman when I watch him shoot competitively but watching him shoot against somebody who is also very competent and shoots often is shocking. He is incredibly fast and unbelievably accurate which puts into perspective just how good Jerry really is.

Rumor is shooting sideways originated from WWII with the "broomhandle" Mauser C96. They would convert it from semi-auto to full-auto and when shooting an automatic holding sideways the kickback naturally helps move the gun horizontally making it easier to clear a room. For LA gangsters holding guns sideways, specifically the Tek-9 or Mac 10 which are automatics, this could be more practical than just "looking cool" in terms of sweeping rounds horizontally across an area. You should test this with a pistol in full-auto!

Not trying to be "that guy", but how many gang members are running a red dot sight on their "gat".

When we were doing semi-annual qualifications with our M9s, one of the annoyances of the National Guard was that we had to account for every shell casing, which was a PITA considering how far an M9 would eject spent shells. Since I was left-handed and our farthest target was 25m, I found it "convenient" to use a "modified gangsta" that ejected the shell casings closer to my position, making them easier to find and collect. Not what I'd recommend for everyday practice, though . . .

I know a fellow officer that was "shot" at. Over the years the story changed several times. After holding the gun sideways became popular in the movies, his story changed to the suspect holding the gun sideways. I can remember him re-telling the story to anyone that would listen. Suspect was never charged and a weapon was never found. When I see people holding the gun sideways, I always remember his stories.

As a harden professional criminal , with over five half dozen liquor store robberies , multiple home invasions, 48 stolen cars & several dozen drive by shootings under my belt. I find this video HIGHLY offensive ! I'm flabbergasted .

Why shoot sideways? I'm going to tell you why. Gary, IN Citgo gas station in the winter of 2008. I'm pumping gas in the car and a loud blue import w' dark tinted windows goes past too slow, driver's window rolls down. At this point I hear "TING" from the canopy over my head, and "PING" off the pump. and TINK off the trunk lid. I'm looking around like a completely unarmed dumb-ass, and see the driver shooting sideways at me through the partially opened driver's window while making a left hand turn. I hit the deck and the car sped off. I stood up and see a couple of gang-banger looking dudes chillin' inside the gas station. The shooter had not even managed to hit the giant plate glass window they were behind! At the range of 20 yards the spread of his half dozen shots was 15 feet. I paid at the pump but went inside and told the guys that somebody was shooting at them, and just for fun I asked them if they wanted to call the police. I didn't fully comprehend the subsequent conversance, but the gist was, "nope". They shoot gangster style for drive by shootings. Steer with the left hand, shoot cross-handed out of a partially open driver's window. The shooters face can't be seen through the tinted window. Idiots all slid down in their seat, can't steer, aim and shoot out the top of a window while looking through dark tinted windows at night.

The "gangster shot" was derived by how "gangsters" would hold the pistol while retreating and trying to shoot behind them. Then they carried it over while standing stationary, bc they'd be more ready in case they had to retreat... they wouldn't have to turn the pistol when they turned and ran, it would already be turned.

they hold it that way because that's how it comes in the box.

Guys, it's not "Gangster", but" Gangsta". Eric, the serious experts utilize both the "lean back" stance and" knee bend" simultaneously. You did have the "package grab" right, but preparatory to firing you must enunciate, in a loud voice; " Yo M--er F--ker take this shit". My Dept. seen a marked enhancement of range scores after the adoption of these methods.

As far as I can tell, by holding it sideways you are changing where recoil gets you for the next shot. Instead of going straight up it kind of goes left mostly. So with multiple hostiles it might help to not worry about vertical positioning and horizontal recoil isn't that big of a deal considering you are already trying to shot down one of either. So they probably aim in the general height and direction then spit the bullets while moving around, praying for a lucky hit along the way.

Hmmm, missing several additional requirements...LV belt, expensive "shades", you need to "throw" the bullets at them by thrusting your gun forward while firing, and most importantly, you forgot to taunt the target which increases accuracy by +36%.

I watched this when it came out. Now the algorithm says I missed something, 6 years later. Why.

I was taught that this technique was devised in the 1920's by a Marine Corp Sgt. He was proficient shooter competing in the Camp Perry National Matches. He was losing to others because he was left eye dominant. Once he canted his weapon, he proceeded to consistently win.
