The Brave Wilderness hosts and crew are professionally trained but receive assistance from animal experts and safety personnel when in potentially life-threatening situations. Permissions were obtained by the crew to film in all locations associated with this series. No animals were injured, killed, or removed from their natural habitat in the filming of this program and instances where animals are brought to the scene are clearly acknowledged in the video. Professional advice should always be sought before entering any dangerous environment, or before encountering any species of animal. Every precaution is taken to handle animals with care and in the least stressful way possible; expert opinions are often solicited when handling animals that may potentially inflict harm to any cast and crew.

I remember watching an episode of river monsters where Jeremy Wade emphasised the importance of saving them as well. Also it turns out the alligator gar may be massively important with dealing with an a truly devastating invasive species. It turns out the alligator gar has a real liking for snakeheads.

My dad is a marine biologist who works at FIU. I lived and worked with the team there for a few years and I can assure you that every single one of them loves fish and aquatic life with a passion and a drive for conservation that has gone unmatched. Unfortunately, not many other people realize the importance of aquatic life ecosystems, but that doesn't stop them from researching and exploring ways to help our fishy friends. I'm extremely familiar with the sonar machine y'all are using there, too - one of the lovely humans I had the pleasure and honor of assisting and watching work was a sonar specialist who creates systems and machines, including building a drone controlled by a PS4 controller, to identify and count the fishes below.

I think they are beautiful. I remember the first time I saw one. My dad was bow fishing ironically but not for Gar ( he's a big believer in only killing what you plan to eat. Reguardless, I'm happy to say he hasn't bow fished in 20 years). I remember being facinated by the way it looked and moved. I got a close up view a couple years ago while swimming. One let me stand only a couple feet from it in the water. The water was clear enough I could clearly identify it as a spotted gar. It was only about 18-24in long and absolute beautiful.

Trash fish is normally a saying used by greedy poeple who have no respect for the waters. Since the idea of gar being a trashfish is they eat all the bass and are inedible.cuase poeple want more of the fish they like to catch no matter the consquences(ironically these are the same poeple often doing things like pulling bass off beds during breeding season cuase they want to catch that trophy fish for show resulting in the eggs and young getting eaten by sunfish). No fish is a trash fish and when fishing all fish should be given respect.

My uncle used to hang out at the shore of the slew behind my house with a rifle and shoot at the gar. He said they ate all the good fish. They're all scales and bones themselves. I dont know if he actually killed any but I used to think it was the silliest thing to see him shooting the water. They did get very big. I was told if food was plentiful, they'd grow indefinitely Edit: i feel it's silly to defend a dead man but I can see how some could be offended by my uncle's action. He was a guy who loved the ecosystem of our small pond slew and the river across the road that would sometimes drain into the small lake. He drop net fished much like you see done here in the video for catfish and crappie in the river. Sometimes snapping turtles and gator gars would be netted up and they were always carefully cut free and released in the river. The slew being what it was would sometimes get a gar or two but if they ate too much or the water got low they weren't able to escape. Theyd eat everything they could until they ate everything and then die unable to nourish their new huge bodies. My uncle defended the gar from people who made myths that they attack people or the worse myth, that they'd actively snatch any small animal or child from the shore, which they don't. He said they'll never even bite a person on purpose. I don't know if it was wrong or right to shoot gars with guns, but he wasn't hateful towards the animal at all and respected and appreciated them for the beautiful animal they were. He told me not to hate the turtles either but he did warn me quite sure, they hate us. Turtles and beavers both have no love or tolerance for humans and are never to be bothered cause they don't want to have anything to do with us but they will defend their personal space if they feel threatened.

Bow fishing honestly sounds fun, if only because I enjoy archery and I enjoy fishing, but preserving nature is supremely important. I definitely want stronger regulations.

There are limits on gator gar now in the state of Texas. What they need to do is let everyone go crazy on Asian carp, the destroy ecosystems unlike any other invasive fish seen.
