Bob your the man! I think it's awesome! I must have two. My ladder sucks for the home attic and I hate moving a ladder back and forth for the garage storage area. If it had a wireless remote I would have sh#t myself. Well done sir!
This looks very complex. I am looking to build a lift for my garage and this fits the bill. Mine will be 10x6 to accommodate motorcycles. I would love to see some images of the cabling that you set up in the attic. Hard to tell from the video. This is very impressive. Thanks
Hello Robert....Excellent job on your lift! Any chance you could take more detailed pictures of the pulley system in the attic? For example, how do you get the clearance between the cables that are inline with each other? Thanks for posting, I would like to do this exact same system in my boathouse.
Beautiful design! Great considerations on the placement of the cables on the platform. If you add some weights on the line coming down from the attic to the wench to offset the weight of the platform, you'll reduce the wear/tear on the wench and increase the lifting capacity. I would suggest about 80% the weight of the platform as counter weights.
This is by far the best lift yet! Cables are pretty long. Usinga point dot leveling laser would speed up the locations for the pulleys above. Make the platform, draw dot on corners, place laser over dot and look up! A plimber laser is perfect for this! If tht winch can have a remote added, that would be great! Do away with that ladder.
The laser level is a good Idea, unfortunately I do not have a self leveling vertical laser. The cables are long because it's a 12ft ceiling in the garage and 6ft in the attic for a total of 18ft.
Lift looks great. have you considered drawing up plans for download? I would pay for such plans and probably a lot of other folks would too. Just a thought
It is custom built for this garage. The video shows most of the parts with descriptions. you would need to take the parts and design to your application.
Nice job, I built my lift with a lot of similar details, except the rails and cable clamp [think the same idea though]...my platform likes to twist as it goes up and down...Have you had any issues with the cable wanting to twist after number of up and down uses? I thought the swivels on the cable ends would stop it but still seems to happen
Thanks for the complement. The rails and cable clamps definitively give it a lot more stability and lower the center of gravity on the platform. I didn't use swivels. Don't have a twisting problem. Swivels might allow the cable to unwind. Also I try to keep a little tension on the cables when I lower it to the garage floor.
Yes, it will hold 4+ people but you need to understand that the lift is attached to 18 ft of cable and will swing around if you move around on the platform. It is like standing on a tall swing.
I have posted the most important parts in the video with part numbers or descriptions. The parts cost is below... Motor $120 Harbor freight Cables 200ft - $30 Harbor freight Blocks $60 Harbor freight & Home Depot Fencing $50 Home Depot Assorted Fittings & Hardware $100 Assorted Lumber $25 Ballpark Total - $400
Here it is. Just orientating and the first 2 things that came to my mind after seeing a few vids.. Where are the pulleys? And why do so few hoist from the floor. Oh and from across the atlantic. Why do you got these beautiful huge houses and then these silly small attic stairs, 😅 No offense, just doesn't strike me American at all! But love the video and last, wondering if you, after your experience, would advise any guide rails.
