dude. You saved me a lot of time and money. This happened exactly when I was closing the garage for work. I kept just focusing on putting the wheel back I didn't even think about looking those wires. I put everything back in place and was able to close and open the garage. Thank you kind sir!
Outstanding instructions. Extremely helpful. Thank you very much. We followed exactly each step shown in your video and fixed our garage. May God bless you for taking the time to show others. 👏👍❤️
This was what was exactly what was wrong with my door, you saved me serious time,$$ and a service call!!!! Thanks to you I was able to fix it myself!!❤😊❤
This is seriously incredible. It really does work. If you have trouble getting the wheel on the track use plyers to bend the top of the track and put the wheel in and then hammer the bent part of the track back down. Thank you for this video!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much!!! You saved me the hassle of having to park my vehicles outside as well as repair costs! It was not easy doing alone so it took me 2 hours to complete even with your video help, but I finally got it! Thank God for RU-vid and people like you that post helpful vids! ✊🏽
Thanks champ this worked a treat! I recall noticing the cable overlapping itself on the drum but didn’t think anything of it. Now I know that’s the start of the misalignment problems.
Thank you for posting this video. I was able to fix my door on my own without having to call in a professional. My issue was a little different than what you showed as my cable came off entirely but it was the same principle. Much appreciated.
Great video. Exact thing happened to my parents house. My sister went to stay with them during hurricane Mathew. She locked the garage door in the down position and forgot about it. The next morning she went to open the garage door, oops. She did more damage than the hurricane. I wish I had thought about using a pair of vice grips like you did. I almost lost a couple of fingers.
Not a perfect video by any means, but I get the feeling this was intended for people with a minimum ability of basic “DIY handiness”, so in that regards this is all one should need (otherwise definitely call a garage pro!). Just used this video to ID the unraveled cable on one of the cable drums as the culprit, and from there it was just a matter of physical strength (holding the door up while reinserting a wheel rod) and precision with shimmying the cable loop back on the door (lots of trial and error + cursing!). Thank you for the video!
Very useful. I have just been forcing the cable back on the drum, without releasing it from the screw first. That is much harder. This happens on my garage door often. I wonder if there is a way to prevent it from happening again.
One trick that can help is a vice grip _below_ the roller on the off side, and a vice trip _above_ the roller on the on the on side. Then you can lift the off side and the on side won't wind up which will give you some slack. Check to see the door is centered and that when the door is all the way up, that both cables are tight, or tight enough. Of course, I'm assuming all parts of the door are operating smoothly.
All I did was re-centered the door between the rails. My door was closer to one rail compared to the other rail. Seems to be doing pretty good so far. Shit almost fell on my car and my Harley. One word of advice, don't forget to park your cars outside of the garage or they'll be trapped there until you are done.
Yes. Grab the door as if you are about to open it, then shimmy to whatever side keeps falling off the track. Just don't go too far. If that doesn't help, you can always buy wheels with a longer shaft online.
Depending on what kind of position the door is in you could seriously hurt yourself by releasing that opener. Do not work on a door in this position. Call a door technician. Your hospital bill will cost much more
You didnt address what caused the cable to jump off the drum. It is usually caused by the door hitting an obstruction while going d ok an or the torsion spring wearing over time. Unless you absolutely know what you are doing, adjusting a torsion spring is foolish to say the least.
This was due to a car hitting tapping the door upon entry/exit. I completely agree with your comment in regards to the torsion spring. I always recommend a professional as I have heard of life threatening injuries when working on or replacing a torsion spring. Thank you for your comment!
got the same problem on mine. I just changed the springs. I think I have too much tension on one cable causing it to pull to that side. It's on my list of things to fix, lol.
Michael Gabriel Unfortunately I did not anticipate the blower motor in the background. Thankfully it still has been a very helpful video to many. The point is helping people... the audio is still decent as far as instructional purposes. I appreciate the feedback and if I do have a chance to redo the video I will be sure to look for any background interferences :)
