Just got a camper shell and stumbled upon your video, i didnt have a clue how i was going to seal it, but thanks to your video i can do this by myself and also a great idea on sliding the camper shell on and off the the truck...thanks for making my life easier 👏👍✌️
Bish bash bosh !! Done .... Excellent job every video should be done this way. 10/10. Watched this went to local DIY store purchased seal got home fitted and sealed thankyou
Oh - this is GREAT! Much better than those double-stickysided strips they sell! Don't have t scrape them off and buy a new roll every time you pull and then replace the shell! Just cut garage-strip to size and sandwich it between rail and shell! 👍🏽
Very nice of you to comment on a few of my videos, especially your ‘video style and editing’ words… thank you. FYI (just yesterday): cap shifted over winter, used pry-bar to straighten seal after loosening bolts.
You must be a tradesman, like it and will be doing my camper soon. Found a used Century cap for my Tacoma short bed for $150, still intact and windows all around. Just have to change the uplifters and a few add ons before I go for a camping trip.
Agreed with another person. Don’t know why you would use this method over regular weatherstripping. 3M makes an excellent weatherstripping. You can purchase it in quarter half three-quarter or 1 inch up to 2 inches wide and all sizes of thicknesses. Has an incredible adhesive that adheres to the bottom of the shell. The foam is dense enough not to rip as you slide the shell onto the truck. Works perfect and last for over 10 years. This method seems like a real hassle. Just my 2 cents.
I don't quite understand why or how to use the blue painters tape. I am looking for a system to easily remove and replace the topper. This system seems to be ideal. Thanks!
The blue tape is to hold the rubber strip to the bed rail. I only taped the one behind the cab because it would fall out or shift during shell install. Hope the stand design works for you. Thanks for commenting.
The blue tape holds the rubber strip in place on the bed rail behind the cab while I install the side pieces. It kept falling down or ended up crooked when I lifted the topper with the pry bar to adjust the side strips. Thanks for viewing my video and for your question.
No, the foam strip is just sandwiched between the truck bed and the topper. I use my pickup without the cap in the summer so I like the bed rails clean. And I drag the shell off/on the wood cradle and I believe that the foam would rip if it were attached. Thanks for writing.
Hi. I bought one roll of the door seal and cut it into three pieces. So, one strip of foam seal for each the three (two sides, one behind cab) truck box tops. Hope this helps - thanks for your comment!
