Hey Squeak, thank you for posting the video and the materials list. I am planning a build myself using 2" X 2" square tubing but though 1/8" wall thickness would be needed. Seeing you use 3/16" will save on the weight and a little money too!
@RSST662
@RSST662 3 года назад
Why would he sacrifice strength for money, though? Less is more, yes. But, more is better.
@tlangham71
@tlangham71 3 года назад
@@RSST662 Hey RYNO, weight is also a factor. The thicker the steel, the heavier it is...the winch has a set weight capacity and the more the cart/lift weighs, the less you can put on it. So it boils down to intended use. For me, it's lifting/lowering holiday decorations in and out of the attic.

Nice to see someone finally ride one, what’s the point of building one and then taking the ladder up for safety reasons. If you build it right, then that should be fine and if you aren’t sure you probably shouldn’t be building that kind of stuff.

Would love to see a video with the Chain hoist. Thinking of swapping my cable hoist to chain also after seeing your comment. Have not seen anyone else with a chain hoist. Would indeed seem 'safer'. The cable does not spool well so 'jerks' at times.

@@squeakgt new vid would be fine:) Thinking I might go with the 1,100 lb chain hoist. 48lbs vs 150 or so and smaller footprint. They will put a longer chain on for a $50 fee plus chain cost.

Nice professional installation. Question 1. Does the hoist motor shutoff when the platform hits the floor or do you have to release the down button? Question 2. Since your hoist is mounter higher than the top of the platform back I see no way for the auto brake to be engaged unless the platform is raised several feet above the attic floor (so that the pulley attached to the platform will activate it). Is there an advantage to doing it this way versus mounting the hoist lower so that the pulley will activate the auto brake when the platform is at the attic floor level?
@squeakgt
@squeakgt 3 года назад
t will auto shut off but its a little be above the floor. I would say like 4”. I mounted it high so it was out of the way. It was just my preference.

Great setup.. how did you attach the unistrut at the point right at the ceiling. Looks like a bolt through the unistrut hole, but was there enough clearance for trolley, or did you have to mill down the bolt head?
@squeakgt
@squeakgt 3 года назад
At the wall i went through unistut holes with a lag that was small enough to fit without the unistrut wheels hitting the lag heads. At the top i drilled a hole in the side of the strut but was above where the wheels went so they did not hit. If you dont have the option then i would have just used a carriage bolt.

@squeakgt
@squeakgt 3 года назад
It comes w one wireless and one corded remote. Not sure if u can buy a second wireless, have to call pro winch. Btw only buy from pro winch not ebay. When i bought mine the ebay ones were cheaper but fraudulent. I love my pro winch. It has a built in stop.

Nice job! Can you tell me how you control the remote power cord slack? It looks like while it is going up the cord goes up with it. Are you using a recoil reel or a long spring or bunjee cord?
@squeakgt
@squeakgt 2 года назад
Thanks! Check out my updated video. I use the wireless remote that came with the pro winch. I have the wired remote hangin on wall as a back up if batteries die in wireless. The standard wired remote was a pain bc i did not have a fool proof way of the slack not getting caught on things

The wheels kinda float in unistrut. I had to grease the inside of unistrut to get rid if the friction. It works great for what im doing but deff not perfect as wheels sometimes slide vs rotate

I wouldn't go over 400lbs, but you'd have to check each component for your specific application and determine the weakest link, depending how you build the supports/joists or what guage bolts or which winch would determine the max capacity.
