In this video, Kody explains how he made a mistake insulating his garage!
He built a garage at his home and made a crucial insulation mistake - he failed to insulate it properly, including the concrete slab. In comparison, Kody shows you the results of Jordan's garage, you'll see a garage that was insulated correctly and the difference is striking.
Through a detailed comparison using infrared imaging of both garages, you'll learn about the importance of proper insulation and how it affects not only the temperature and humidity levels inside your garage but also your energy bills.
Don't make the same mistake Kody did - learn from his experience and make sure you properly insulate your garage!

After seeing your two videos using Nudura foam blocks cut in two with 2x6 bracing for a garage slab we decided to build ours the same way. I have little construction experience, but learned a lot over the years helping people out and watching videos. Ours is 30'x30' plus the carport with an upper level. I carefully watched your two videos repeatedly and did as you said adding bracing etc along with urethane spray foam 2 inches thick on the base up to the Nudura sides with 2 inch 2'x8' high compression foam all around the outside perimeter. The contractor we hired to pour the concrete said we did a better job than most contractors. While we are not finished yet and it is still not heated, nothing moved this past winter in our cold Northern Quebec climate. Hopefully we will get it closed in by this Fall and will see how it goes. I assume there will be some heat loss at the base of the garage door because you cannot insulate that area completely and still have vehicles crossing the threshold inside, but I could not think of any other way. The only other area that will be colder than the walls will be where the sill plates meet the concrete and sit on the Nudura. Otherwise I think it will be great. Thanks so much for all of your great videos. You taught me a lot. :)

good on you for sharing your mistake so that others can learn. We built my brother's garage and insulated under the slab as well as adding a 4' wide skirt around the perimeter. The base of the wall is one row of Fox Block ICF. We have no regrets for having spent the money on insulation as the garage is extra comfortable and is being used daily for all kind of projects....and yes, surviving cold Quebec's winters. Thanks

Good thinking on your part! Good job. I’m not sure what I was thinking. Oh well… helps others.

Oh Canada! I did something similar with a slab on grade addition at our last house. Lesson learned. Apparently there is a thermal break type product you can use near garage doors in your garage slab. Thanks for making these great videos!

Always learning right!? Thanks for the great comment.

As a hack... you could attach to the inside bottom of your garage door a squab that rises and is out of the way when the garage door is open and lands back in place when the garage door is down. Obviously this isn't ideal but may alleviate heat loss while considering a fix.

I don’t mind the heat loss on Jordan’s slab at the door. It’s not the worst. Far better than mine. 🤦‍♂️

Sakrete makes an ICF parge mix. Used it on my build. Works great.

Kode can you provide a list of penatrations you include in every house build? it seems every complete build i have watched they all had to rent a corer so they can correct something they missed. for example how many penetrations are needed to install a HRV/ERV? How many for a humidifier or heat pump? I am working on details for my build and want to make sure i include everything and then will add like 1-2 extra penetrations on each wall for what ifs. thanks

I found the same issue on my build even with 2" foam around the outside. The exposed concrete outside the door is just a heat sink... Same pattern to a T. Next winter I was going to put a sheet of 2in foam outside the door on the slab and out a few inches and see the difference
