Absolutely! There are thousands of loops you can use to build a song, touch instruments come with autoplay modes that do all the melody work for you and live loop grids allow you to remix tracks in different genres in real time.
And of course, search up and read that manual. There's so much in there that it's a must to read to make heads or tails of 80% of the stuff. The only thing that really screws me up is the use of symbols for every menu and a lot of the editing techniques are.. clunky. But for a functioning recording studio on my phone that's pretty much freeware, I'm not going to complain too much. But really, read that manual. It looks daunting to read, and the way it's formatted online is kind of awkward with it's links all over the place, but it actually doesn't take that long and it's a must read with this powerful music maker.

Straightforward and helpful, as usual! I'd love to see more content about GB for iPad. I recently started using it more because I'm on the road lately. Patrick, have you found that seeing the guitar fretboard on the screen like that changes the way you think about writing guitar parts? Something about it being laid out in front of me more like a piano has an effect on the way I see it, and I tend to think of the instrument differently.
i've got some song lyrics, the only problem is i have no freaking idea to actually make like the sounds with garageband, but now, we'll just have to see how well i work on garageband now. i hope i can do well...

No, not at all. If you use the autoplay function on the 'smart' option for each instrument it does all the tricky bits of music (eg playing in time and knowing what notes to pick) for you. I work in a special needs school where I teach music and regularly use garage band to allow pupils to be able to write their own songs with little to no knowledge/ability to play traditional instruments. That's why garageband is SO good, its incredibly inclusive and easy to be creative without having to spend a lifetime on how to play guitar. This is a fantastic tutorial!
Does anyone know how to use the high hat while drumming? I usually use my thumbs for the snare and kick, but when I try to do rides and toms it’s kinda hard

Being a paid-up member of the grey hair brigade, I read all your other comments, and then proceeded to screw up, get confused, say 'sod it' and said the wrong name! (It was early this morning when all folk should be safely in their beds, and I couldn't sleep, so decided to do something about it all)! It's still a great post and for such a good app, well worth a good watch BTW, in Kate Bush's song, 'Joanni', there is a regular back-beat with a sort of 'clunk'. Have you any idea what instrument may be used here? It' needs more tho. Needs more plugins and sounds. And it needs turn tables and turn table sounds for scratching and mixing. Needs to almost be like FL studio but BETTER
nice video. im asking this at the start of the video. but I have a guitar jack to headphone jack cable that I use to plug into ipad from the guitar. but I cant get it to work. like the sound doesn't come through on the ipad.
Why does the song parts go in loops? I must switch manually between them. It is super annoying. If I switch to late, a small part of song part A begin before B starts. Help please?

Hello sir. I practice GeoShred with GarageBand running in background and record too. But My GarageBand is automatically closed after some minutes. And everything ruins. In garageband settings "Run in Background" is on. I have reset GarageBand app couple of times. Reboot device. But my problem is not solved. Please help.

Hi, love. I have this strange issue goin down with my iPad and the only man on planet Earth who I could think of, capable of assisting me with such problems, was "GarageBand Man". Soooooooo, I decided to give a couple of different synthesizer and vocoder apps a try and found they didn't suit my needs or fulfill my interest. So I ended up deleting them from my iPad, instead.... However, it seemed to have taken a permanent effect on garageband, cos now ALL of my vocals are recording on that odd vocoder voice and I'm a bit confused as to how.... I never even added it TO my garageband extensions (or wtvr)..... Please help
Your videos are very helpful. I’m wrestling with the Audio Unit Extension, Sensual Sax. I used it successfully in an earlier recording project using GB. When I attempt another project, I am prompted with: Reload or Disallow, then Your Sensual Sax is NOT installed on your computer. I love the App and want to use it often. I thought I had already installed it. Please help me install it on my IPad. 🙏
I’m really having problems tracking what you are doing. As you mention things like tabs, buttons, icons, I’m not clear where to find the in my app. Do you have any suggestions or tips,that can help me find the sections you are talking about, and then there are obvious changes between each version, so it will really heels me to know what version.
William Ryde GB for iOS is more beginner/user friendly and the touch instruments sound great. It does lack the depth of the Mac version when it comes to editing and mixing though. Pop into your nearest Apple store and give it a try!
Do you have to pay for the software on the iPhone or iPad how do it work ? Cause garage band is on iPhone can you just use a irig mic or some kind of mic to the iPhone and start recording ?

Thanks for the information. I'm recording an audio book using my ipad and Garageband. At the end of the segment/region, it will automatically start at the beginning. I do want to start over each time and the Loop setting is turned off. How can I stop this from happening?
