Another novelty cereal from FYE -- this time they took us back to the 80s with this Garbage Pail Kids cereal. A bit more inventive than previous Lucky Charms clones, this cereal is more about the packaging than the edible product.

As a kid I collected GPK. When I saw there was a cartoon I looked in our local TV listing and set the VCR to record it. I was always upset when a different show was on the tape not knowing that it was not airing in the US. The paper always listed the show though and I would always set a tape to record thinking I was finally going to catch it.

I was born in 79 so I attended elementary school from the mid 80s to 1993 when I graduated 8th grade...I say this because Garbage Pail Kid stickers were everywhere!! Stuck on lockers...bathrooms, chairs, desk, lunch room etc...I always loved the creativity of Garbage Pail Kids...memes before the internet!!

Actually, Gabe. The Cartoon Pilot DID make it to air. But the show was recalled and pulled from the lineup after CBS received hundreds of letters. I remember. I saw the pilot 11/14/1987.

I couldn't decide what the last movie for my Columbia House DVD offer should be, so I picked Garbage Pail Kids just because I knew about the cards..... Big mistake. I remember watching it wonder what fresh fucking hell it spawned from.

The Garbage Pail Kids used in the movie were: Greaser Greg Vallerie Vomit Nat Nerd Ali Gator Messy Tessy Foul Phil Windy Winston What were the alternate names of those characters? I know Greaser Greg was Chris Hiss, and you said Messy Tessy and Vallerie Vomit, so what were the other four?

Does a cereal have to come from a major company for it to be “real”? What all the enthusiast circles I’ve seen have in common is they praise the obscure products that tend to be superior to the usually mediocre mainstream ones. Strange for a big fan of something to say an item is lesser or not as noteworthy because it’s not well known.

It’s just not manufactured as a unique cereal made for mass market distribution. That’s all I mean. They’re usually just knock off generic cereals that come from co-packers. And if they’re not sold in grocery stores… I don’t consider them to be authentic. Still cool boxes and fun to collect

Have you tried the Funko's cereal too? I bought a box of that cereal at my local Hot Topic for five bucks last month. Tried the cereal and it was bland. No flavor. I could've put that five bucks toward a box of Fruit Loops. The Dollar Tree Fruit Loops knock off called Fruit Rings tasted better.

My guess is the reason parents banned the "Garbage Pail Kids" cartoon from the US was because of the negative press that the "Garbage Pail Kids" movie got and yeah it was ugly.

EEEWWW!!!! Who ate this junk given that they intentionally tried to gross people out? What happened to portraying sugar bomb cereals as magically delicious? If I'm going to eat something disgusting, it should at least be a superfood with nutrients that are hard to find in other foods. :)
