The time has finally come to harvest the onions that I first planted in November of 2021. I started them indoors, transplanted them in early February 2022, and now, it's time to reap the reward: a year's worth of onions!

Hi Regina, Thanks for sharing your exciting onion harvest. It is so rewarding to meet a garden goal such as enough onions for a year! Congratulations. You demonstrate great dedication and it is definitely paying off. I am in the midst of making pickles everyday to preserve my cucumbers as they are ripening. Also, I have harvested and cooked chard twice in the past week as well as zucchini once. Although it's just beginning, I am so grateful to be eating from my garden. J

Thanks! Congrats on your harvests as well. Yes, eating from the garden is so rewarding! This season I'm trying to do better about planning meals that use as much garden produce as possible. I'll probably be eating air-fried okra as a snack every day. You must be harvesting a ton of cucumbers! I hope I'm able to make a jar or two this summer; last year, mine didn't do so well, but they seem to be okay this year.

Thank you for watching! Onions can be tricky; my first attempt from seeds was complete fail. Here's the playlist that goes through starting the seeds and transplanting them outside: ru-vid.com/group/PLai8GCfD8YR2N4k7epihTeJOWfqBkjlm3

Thank you! Will planting your garlic a little earlier help it to get bigger?

You did a really good job on the series. We grew about five 50 foot rows of onions this year. We stored, froze, and dehydrated them. The only thing I would add is the red onions seem to bolt worse than the yellow and white. Not sure why. Enjoyed watching.

Thank you! Wow, five 50 foot rows must have been more than 500 onions; that's awesome!

I look at Allotment growers in the U.k.They take those long trays and sprinkle the seeds in the soil. Then let them grow and IF they tangle the dip them into water to separate them.I think I will try that when doing the few I grow.
@OurGiftedGarden
@OurGiftedGarden 2 года назад
That definitely works for onions. They have such fibrous roots they separate easily.

yep. I use onions in most of my cooking, and they are so good pickled with peppers, so I'll be using some for that, too.

Great Job. I need to watch you first video on onions because I tried growing onion starts and they are nowhere near as big as yours.

Thanks! Last season I bought onion seedlings to grow since my attempt to grow from seed was a fail. They didn't get nearly as big as my onions this year even though the plants were much larger than the transplants I grew from seed. I'm wondering if it had something to do with the crazy freeze we had in Feb. 2021. The plants survived it but maybe it stunted them a bit.
