Impressive garden especially the tomatoes! We moved to Celina from West Georgia and one thing that was so surprising was how hot and dry June through August has been, and even with straw mulch and drip irrigation our tomatoes have stopped growing and fruiting -- any tips for midsummer tomatoes in north TX? Great channel!
It's hard to know what exactly went wrong. Blueberries like plenty of water and they need acidic soil. I have to water mine more frequently than I do other things in the garden, and I add a soil acidifier every 3 months or so to the pots they are in. I also use a fertilizer for acid loving plants.
I'm definitely not an expert on peppermint; I just have one plant that I planted 4 years ago. I grew it from seed back in 2000, planted it in a container and it's been growing since. I fertilize it everyone once in a while and water it when I water the rest of the garden.
Hello. Are those bell pepper plants I see? Do you fertilize them as well? I started from seed, they grew true leaves and maybe one or two more sets and just stopped growing. It's been about two+ months at this point.
For my seedlings, once they have true leaves, I fertilize them with a water soluble fertilizer at about 1/2 strength once every other week. If they aren't growing, it could be that they need fertilizer if they soil doesn't have enough nutrition.
that is really sad that you family is not interested in the things you like,i would love to be there picking onions with you they look amazing and you did a great job on raising them up,keep going its a wonderfull hobbie and also good for having peace in your head !
The compost and alfalfa pellets is really all okra needs. My okra grew so well that each plant literally grew into trees with 2 1/2 inch diameter stems/trunks. I was harvesting about two and sometimes three times a day. Great video and beautiful garden!
Great video! You read my mind. I recently bought a similar stand from Costco with the intention of building a grow stand myself. This is a huge help. Thanks for the clear, straightforward info. So refreshing! Happy growing😊
I'm just starting thanks so much for the help. Two Lights are needs for these size shelf? What type of soil do you use? That's what I'm confused about. I'm in zone 5b
I'm so glad the video is helpful. I have 2 lights on some shelves and 3 on others. You can get by with 2. For seed starting I mix my own soil with just two ingredients: peat moss and vermiculite. 3 parts peat, 1 part vermiculite. I have a video on which I show how to make it. Essentially, in just mix the ingredients together and then moisten with boiling water.
Going back and watching your old videos. This is the most extensive and informative seed starting video I have seen so far (and I have watched A LOT). Thank you for sharing everything that you have learned
Great garden. I am setting up my raised beds this winter. What advice do give a newbie in North Texas. Also.do you buy seeds at big box PR off websites? Please tell me kinda what you buy qhere.
My advice for a n. Tex newbie is to keep the heat in mind when deciding what to plant because it's pretty intense. Also, if you can set up drip irrigation, do it. It's difficult to keep the garden watered in the summer otherwise.
I buy seeds from everywhere. Sometimes at big box stores, dollar tree, etc. Some I order online at places like baker creek, urban farmer, hoss tools and others. It just depends on what I'm looking for. Big box stores have very limited variety.
I didn't start using mathseeds with her until she was 4, I think... but yes she did the worksheets then. The whole time we have used it we alternate lesson and worksheet, but before she could read, i had to help her more than i do now. She's on the second grade level now, and we modified it a bit to do half a lesson and half the worksheets every day. The lessons are a bit longer now, so she wanted to split it up. Also, I don't have her do every single question on the worksheets. Often, I just go through and circle half of them and have her do those.
I love this program. We used it last year for my daughter in 2nd grade. We’re using it this again this year for 3rd grade. My daughters friends that were in 2nd grade public school were learning what she was learning. She finished last year on lesson 179 which was 3rd grade. We’re doing it this year with my kindergartener as well. I love that reading eggs/ eggs-press and mathseeds has a homeschool calendar that can be followed for the school year as a full curriculum. Such a great program!

I’ve been binge watching your videos ever since I subscribed. Lol. Thank you so much for sharing your story! We have so much in common. I also was a teacher for 8 years and decided to stay home with my 3 kids last year. I’m just now getting into gardening on a bigger scale (I had a few container plants when we lived in apartments) and now I have 3 raised beds. Your videos have been invaluable to me because it gives me encouragement that I can have a thriving garden in this intense North Texas climate. Lol. God bless you and your family and I look forward to continuing to follow your journey 😊
Thank you for watching! We definitely have a lot in common. This heat is brutal, but lots of things can grow well here. I'm hoping to make time to post more videos soon.
Girl!!! You are just SO pretty! And smart! I just love your videos! YASSS! You are a queen sweetie! Totally wish you'd have a little gathering for all us North Texas folks! Anna, TX here. ❤❤❤
