Garden of Gethsemane: the surprising significance of the olive trees

Dallas, and Rabbi: I just got through watching season four episode four and some of the aftershow when you talked about this scene and this RU-vid about Jesus is watching them press Oil and being so distressed. And you mentioned this RU-vid and I’m so glad you did and I got to see it. When I was watching that scene in the chosen, I thought of two things. And they confirmed here. I thought of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemene when he was sweating blood and asking that this cup, be taken from him, but I was also thinking of him being pressed with our sins and his blood being pressed out of him for our sins! And of course being so grateful that he did that for me and for everyone whoever lived if they will just accept the gift! So thank you Dallas for the wonderful program and thank you, Rabbi I watch you on TBN and I just love hearing your wisdom and messianic Jewish perspective! God bless you both! I get my olive oil from Galilee Green Olive Oil! It means so much to me to cook with it! I offer it to my pastor, too to use as anointing oil!

The Garden of Gethsemane is there and not built up is because when David was fleeing his son Absalom he brought the Ark of the Covenant across the valley and laid it down at that site. From then on it was considered Holy. He was anointed with nard, Spikenard which is a preparation for burial was very expensive because the plant used to make it is from the Himalayan mountains in India, along the Spice Road. The Garden is also the location where Jeremiah speaks of the New Covenant: "This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time, " declares the Lord. "I will put my law into their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God and they will be my people." And during the Crucifixion they will used a sponge of Vinegar and Hyssop to Jesus. Hyssop is what the priest uses in the Burnt offering to remove people's sin. In the Psalm 51 Hyssop is used to cleanse the body of sin, to be as pure as snow. The Priests actually fulfilled all the requirements of the Torah for the sins of all people in the Passion. You will find there is meaning in every word, references to prophecy in the Old Testament all over the actions of Jesus in the Passion.

So relevant today, thanks Dallas, for all of your effort in this beautiful mission you are doing these days!

That is so amazing, the in-depth look into each account of the historical/Biblical of these stories. The Chosen is by far the most interactive human portrayal of each person from Jesus and His Followers in Film.

Dallas, when were you at the Nazareth Village?! Volunteered there for 5 years and what I learned about olive trees impacted my faith so much! How many times are the olives pressed? 3 times, how many times did Jesus pray in the garden of the olive press? 3 times. And each prayer he goes deeper into the garden with more weight and "pressure" on his shoulders...same as each press of the olives, the weight pressing increases (:

How amazingly valuable and precious are we to God, ( think about it) for the creator of the universe to lower Himself to a mere man And suffer so extreme that no man would be able to withstand, only a God would be able to do. Beautiful video ,thank you! I went to Israel for the first time this year and the moment The plane landed I could feel God‘s hand on the country. When We were in the garden of Gethsemane it was almost as if you could hear the breath of Jesus.. there was a stillness in silence.we also learned that the roots of an olive tree are eternal they never die, although he trees will at some point. Psalms 52:8 but I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God I will always trust in God‘s unfailing love❤️

i had the most powerful reaction when i visited the garden standing among the olive trees.. i trembled and cried uncontrollably!! was a shock! and the word kept coming into my head.. ‘ betrayed!!! later we bought a house in spain, and in between the undergrowth of the garden we discovered a lonesome olive tree which i have always loved! ❤❤ i have to add that i was not religious or read the bible!

Olives are a delicacy we put in tamales and also is my last name in Spanish. Every Christmas, I would hear my grandparents joke and say to me, "How dare you not eat your olives!!! Are you ashamed of your last name?" Only because I thought the taste to be bitter. It was not until my first pregnancy that cravings led me to adore the taste of olives and also learn what my last name is about. RIP my grandparents ❤ it was a great RU-vid recommendation ❤

Oh my gosh, just one more bible story becoming so real by seeing it in this show. As I watch The Chosen, stories that I have heard over and over are literally leaping off the pages. I don’t remember how I learned about the olive press but it wasn’t in church. Something else that steuck me was that the whole olive got crushed. If you’ve ever bitten into an olive that still has the stone in it just imagine the pressure it takes to have that thing ground to a pulp. Jesus wasn’t just being squashed like an olive with no pit. He was literally being ground into mash (for lack of a better comparison) because the olive wasn’t separated from the pit before grinding. Those verses of scripture are so much more meaningful now that I see this!

We discovered my wife was pregnant on Valentine’s Day. I asked God to give me a name for my unborn daughter the other day. My wife (who is on the verge of faith) came to me that day with the name Olivia. Olivia Marie (Lord willing), my first daughter, is due to enter the world on Labor Day.
