Hi everyone! Welcome back to episode 2 of the garden overhaul. We've encountered a few delays with deliveries so whilst our builders wait to continue the work Freddie and I have taken on a few DIY gardening projects of our own. I'm working with Bosch Home & Garden tools. With their 18V tools upcycling projects at home are super easy and fun! #LikeABosch: every little step counts. This couldn't be the more perfect time as we have leftover wood supply from the garden office build so we wanted to turn it into a butterfly planter and a bee hotel!

Butterfly Planter:
- Take scaffolding boards and lay them out on the base of your planter and measure up to make sure that the length of the boards is the same length as the base and cut using the UniversalSaw 18V-100 cordless jigsaw. Cut the sides to fit the depth of the planter too.
- Sand down rough edges with the PSM 18 LI cordless multi-sander
- Lay down lengthways scaffolding boards (we did two boards horizontally stacked for the height and length) and drill batons of wood vertically to connect the boards together using the UniversalImpact 18V-60 cordless impact drill driver. This will keep them sturdy when you build the box up.
- Connect the four sides of the planter with metal brackets and a drill. You can do this internally or externally. We did it internally to conceal the brackets.
- Drill the base on top then flip the planter over
- Fill the planter with protective layering to prevent the wood from rotting against the soil. Drill or staple the matting in place. We then drilled holes in the base and cut fine scratches in the matting to allow for drainage.
- fill half the planter with lightweight rubble so that the whole planter doesn't need to be filled with topsoil. It keeps it lighter, just make sure you put enough soil in based on the roots of the plants you're planting.
- top with top soil and good quality compost and plant your plants!
We went for dahlia, fennel, rosemary, nemesia and lupins.
