Starting with the common name, Solomon's Seal, and then the botanical one Polygonatum x hybridum, the common name being better known for a lovely garden plant. This is a very elegant perennial,the long arching stems have narrow leaves either side at the top and below these hang pairs of green tipped white bells. The flowers appear in late spring early summer. They like a cool root run in shade to part sun, once well established will take more sun. In winter mulch with organic matter such as good garden compost. Watch out for slugs when the plants begin to emerge in spring. Propagate by division in spring taking care when planting back the rhizomes that they are placed horizontally and plant shallowly.
