Bill Champlin told Jim Beaudin on Rock History that Jason Scheff sings better now than he ever did in Chicago. He said Jason had pitch problems and was always under pressure to sound like Peter Cetera. Cetera had left Scheff a phone message (after the release of Chicago 18) "I like what I've heard on the album, you'll do great but watch out for yourself while you're on the road" Scheff disclosed this last year in his own interview with Jim Beaudin. Yet haters said Ceter had a huge ego and was a douche bag. Uh not !! 7:28
@hansgordy No Cetera showed class by praising Scheff for his work on Chicago 18 . Cetera was very respectful, very professional. Lou Gramm , much as I love him , did the opposite he was very critical of Kelly Hansen and deadpanned (criticized) Hansen's only album with Foreigner 2009s CANT SLOW DOWN !! 15:49
Jason is an amazing songwriter, I really don't know why he sang Peter's songs here. He could be singing the songs he wrote. I'd still like to hear him do the songs he wrote on Twenty1, like Man to Woman.
Bill Champlin recently said he had done some projects with Jason (since both guys had exited Chicago) and he mentioned in that interview with John Beaudin on Rock History that Jason had pitch problems as a Chicago band member. He said Jason is a much better singer now than he was in Chicago. 😊 This means you were 100% correct. Good observation 👍
Damn, Jason just keeps getting better and better with time. Chicago is missing out. Generation Radio was great but didn't really find its place on radio, etc. Such is the problem with so many old-time artists still giving it their all. But I have a feeling if Jason keeps it up, he'll find his 2nd chance back in the spotlight. He just needs to ditch Chris Rodriguez like a bad habit. He was bad with Peter Cetera, he was dead weight on the Generation Radio CD and clearly from this performance, he continues to demonstrate his luck as he is far out of his league vocally. He could also benefit from a great producer with the Midas touch and a proper manager with some real pull in the industry.
Wow. First of all, Generation Radio is not "was', but it "is"...The new album was awesome, including Chris Rodriguez's contributions. Saw them live and they were one of the tightest cover bands/supergroups I've ever seen.
You point out some interesting things on there. I am really disapointed that Generation Radio, a band that everybody says is so great, the best thing in today's rock scene and everything (and I truly think they are all that), still hasn't been on any relevant TV show. Still hasn't found a gig on something like Good Morning América, or SNL on NBC. Something that gives them real visibility. Too bad that Jay DeMarcus has not used his contacts nor anything that he learned while being with Rascal Flatts to land his GR band some really important gig on TV. I think, not too long ago, that he was on some show and talked a bit about the band, but he was alone, without his fellow bandmembers.🫤 They ended to be just one more cover band like so many others around there...a very good cover band, but just one cover band, with no fame or trascendence, unknown for most people.😔 I think Jason could just grow up musically if he had his very own band where he has all the control, where he could be the actual leader, and stops deifiying Cetera and just focusing on Himself and His own music.
I Really Liked Jason, Was He Really Chicagos Lead Singer? Nobody Was Actually Chicagos Lead Singer, Although Think Robert Lamm Was Their Best Singer At That Time!!😊
