Take some whole peppercorns and soak them for a day or two. Then strain the water and put into a spray bottle and spray the green bean plants and the bugs will leave them alone and not eat at your leaves.. I learned that in a organic magazine years ago.. Works every time.

Ok, you take the little tender leaves, you can eat the big too , but you have to take the vains out. Cut em up like collard greens. Take a iron skillet and add a half cup of water and a eighth of a tsp of baking soda bring to a boil add pumpkin greens. Cook about 6 minutes, you cook them any longer, it's too much pore them into stainer. In the same rinsed skillet add butter 2 TBS, and melt til hot then add a medium onion cut into strip's cook til almost tendrer Then add a tbs of of flour and cook just a minute or so add a half cup of cream and half cup of water. Or one cup of whole fat milk. Then when it starts to thicken add your strained pumpkin. Now my seasons are salt pepper half tsp of tumeric and a tsp of garlic powder. But feel free to add what you like but add them when you get onions just about cooked in the butter!! Try it and you will never look at pumpkin leaves the same way. O my makes me hungry just thinking about them.

Yes Mrs. H, I"m ready for more canning projects! I am a city girl with just a very, very small front lawn that I am growing food in. My neighbors all talked about me last year when I started but oh the attitudes have changed this year! I have commented in the past but I just wanted to drop a line today just to say Hey I"m watching! LOL! I just wanted to make one request, I would love for your to show the effects of not de-bubbleing when you can items. I"ve been waiting but I guess that you've been busy with other things. Homestead where you are then, feed yourself from what you grow. I live in the city but grow my garden in my front yard(my furbabies rule the back yard). I don't care what my neighbors think, I'm trying to learn to be self-sufficient, now the only problem is my neighbor has a damn cat that is scratching in my grow boxes and that is a major problem for me. I also have a chicken coop with six chickens in my back backyard. Just because you are your age it doesn't mean that you want only an if you want it go get it.

I'm 64 and have a garden in my small backyard. It is a lot of work but fun too. I prefer plants to people. Plants don't talk back, they don't argue, they don't yell... And you just try. I'm not always successful but when you are, it sure feels good.☺️

He didn’t know what he started, lol. I wanted to let you know that those long egg nuts growing are Japanese Ichiban eggplants. I have some growing and they are my favorite. They are not bitter at all. They are delicious stir fried too. Have you tried BT to keep the hornworms away. I’ve been using Neem Oil, peppermint oil, cinnamon and diotamaceous earth to keep the bugs down to a manageable level. Thanks for your advice and the laughs. Be blessed.

Marigold's are a natural pesticide. Marigolds are used to repel harmful insect pests on vegetables such as squash, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes and beans. Marigolds release thiopene, which is a chemical repellent for nematodes. Marigolds repel aphids and the whiteflies around tomatoes.Maybe you can plant some marigold plants in the beds that attract the most bugs. Chrysanthemums, or mums for short, are loved by gardeners and florists for their diversity of shapes and colors. But there’s another reason you should be planting them all over your garden: pest control! Chrysanthemums naturally produce a chemical called pyrethrin, and thanks to it, organic garden pest control can be as easy as scattering They would draw the pollinators also. Marigolds do not affect the food you're growing nor will it affect you and your husband, just don't eat them.😉☺️👏👏👏

Yall make me smile. Consider putting aluminum foil around the stalk/stems of your squash. Then bury that in soil/. Stops the squash vine borer. Also, try spraying diluted pepperment oil and water on your plants to mask the pheromones from the squash plants that draw the bugs in. The Rusted Gardener videos taught me that. I just love you both. Bless you

Your garden looks fantastic. I put half a quart of peppermint Castille soap in a 3 gallon sprayer. It wont hurt the plants, washes off with rain, and the squash bugs hate it.

We had a huge garden and rasberry patch in Idaho. It was before the raised beds we're ever known about. It fed our family. We did have to buy meat and wheat. We had a big stone wheat mill in the kitchen to make our bread. Those were wonderful days being self sufficient.

Thank you for your garden tour, it was awesome, and yes, now you can enjoy the fruits of all of your labor. I know that this is just a part of it and that the canning process is a lot of hard work also. Thumbs up.

Try him and see if he is a good helper. If not and he wants to grow, give him his own growing space. RU-vid has several couples that grow slightly separately and it works and is very interesting to see their different styles.

@@hopeking3588 they sure do stink! we are in a heavily wooded area & we get stink bugs in the house in the Winter when there is snow since they hide in the garage plus the house has a lot of rot we can't keep up with. The garage is where the car lives, not us but we have wood beamed ceilings and need a new roof.It could always be worse I guess.
