Oh boy do I have ideas 😅 I’ve lived in SC my entire life, took landscaping, worked for gardening centers and grandmother and aunt were/are master gardeners! First, check out your local garden center to see if they have a soil testing option. In SC we use Clemson. With the shaded area there soooo many options!! Hostas are beautiful and there are soooo many varieties, they are also great fillers. Bleeding hearts, hydrangeas, Jacobs ladder, fox glove, Columbine, my lemon balm loves the shade too (plus those are all perennials) for Annuals: Impatiens, fushia, lobelia, etc You should definitely get a sweet olive and magnolia and gardenia!! Your yard will smell sooooo good!! I also agree with the medicinal comment! Also, the Rosemary infront of the home protects you (witchy wise) but also is known to deter pests (mosquitoes 🦟bleh)

Yeah, garden planning is fun! I decided to start an urban cut flower farm in my back yard this year. You have room to do some wonderful things. All I will say is work with the plants that are there if you can, but pull them if they don’t fit your vision. It’s a permission people often don’t give themselves when moving into a new space. I usually thank the plants for their service. There are many content creators on RU-vid (general gardeners and flower farmers) in or near your zone. Consider-to save $$$-starting your annual cut flowers from seed and plan for flowering/ texture/ color perennials as bare root or small size. Oh, and there is a dwarf runner bean with edible flowers/pods (Renee’s Garden) that works well in hanging baskets, gives you food and feeds hummingbirds on their urban travels.

Looks great. Be careful with wisteria, it can be extremely invasive if not controlled. Spend time watching the sun patterns in your growing area (in all seasons as it changes). Pots are good as you can move them to sunny areas as needed.

I put a fence with a door around anything hideous like ac and power units. Give enough space inside so a repairman can work inside! The trick is ornate and opulence in the front, where visitors come in! An herb garden close to the kitchen, and food gardens in the back, where company never goes! I hope this helps! Before you make any alterations to the house itself, check with historical associations. See if you are eligible. And find out who the original owners were! You can open the home to tours, or put plaques out and name the house! It will make a very good branding tool, if you decide to sell products from home!

Love the idea of Wisteria. Clematis is another pretty vining flower. Butterfly bushes, veronica perennials, and coneflowers/echinaceas are great additions too to attract pollinators. I believe elderberry grows well in the south too, so you could grow some near your other berries for a nice immunity section.

What a wonderful space! So many cool niches where you can have different types of plants. The blueberries probably need a soil adjustment so do a pH test. They like acidic soil. Looks like a Bradford pear - maybe replace it with a fruit tree that does well in your area. Also, plants that are pollinators and produce seeds make your home inviting to butterflies and birds.

I already see the potential that every space has and I know you will do a wonderful work with them! 🌼 Your house is beautiful. And with your love and care I'm sure it can only get more magical as time goes by. In my house we have lots and lots of plants, and four trees. Growing plants is an adventure for sure. You will see how some plants will react depending on where you put them. Some of then even ask to be moved around until you find the perfect spot for them. It's quite a process, but it's worth it. I only noticed in recent years how my grandmother and my mom have always been green witches (and more like a hearth witch in the case of my mom). They both have always talked to the plants. They ask permission before they trim them and before they take anything from them. My grandmother specially sometimes walk around the garden and just talk to them. And because me and my sisters grow up with their example, I sometimes talk to bugs and greet plants when I'm walking somewhere 😂, as well as any and every animal I come across. It used to be something I was a little self-conscious about, but not anymore. The more you take care of plants the more you feel like it's the most natural and right thing to do. So don't worry if you find yourself talking to them. Lots of love from Chile ❤️

I just discovered this video too late perhaps. I too live in an urban, old Southern house. My witchy yardening has been a fun journey.🧚🏼‍♀ I’m a native plant society member in my area. I recommend : 1) send your specific soil sample in for testing. You can plan your site by using EDIT (Ecosystem Dynamics Interpretive Tool), a part of USDA. It’s free!💲 🔬 2)While you’re building a stewardship program for your land & consulting with Savannah city codes, trim your trees first at the right time of year so they don’t fall on your new gardens. 3) Also consider native plants or permaculture practices to round out the overall plan for humans, livestock, plants & soil health.🐣 And as you’re surely well aware, don’t forget those land & house spirits need tending too! Blessings.🪴

The balcony place .....I'm not sure what falls under their but maybe think about putting a drain up there especially if you're watering up there. My grams had tons of plants on her deck and would water them for years and a few years back the wood started to warp and I can see that little separation from the wall and the floor in the back. Just be cautious. Wouldnt want you to do a Cleveland lol

I'm not sure wisteria in a pot would work out. Wisteria is usually such a vigorous grower that it would outgrow any pot. Maybe a clematis? If there is a facebook gardening group for Savannah, maybe consider joining it. I did that in my new city and I get tons of inspiration and help from my fellow local gardeners. Also, visit your local independent garden center and ask a lot of questions when you shop. They will usually have people who are very knowledgeable. You have a beautiful space there and I'm really looking forward to your future videos! Take care.

Not knowing what the previous owner planted is such a pain. It's one of the reasons that, when I started planting in our garden, I kept detailed records of exactly what I planted, where, complete with full diagrams of the yard and everything's location and expected future growth radius (when it came to the trees and the like). When we eventually sold the house, I included all those records with the home's more official records and documents when it got passed to the new owners, that way they wouldn't have to do any guessing. Far more people should do it, but unfortunately not a soul seems to!

I am so excited for you! This is amazing:) I'd say pull out as much of that English Ivy as you can (it's terribly invasive in the US, and you can make soap by boil the leaves and allowing them to steep for ~30 minutes). I love wisteria, and there is a native variety that will probably love your secret garden! Happy planting and Green Blessings!

I'm looking forward to seeing how it all works out. I would suggest you make sure the mint is in a pot in the ground. do NOT let it grow free. it's one of htose plants that will take over a flower bed. When you said 'edible flowers' I thought 'pumpkins.' They like a lot of light. locally for where i am the double knock roses are very hardy and grow well, but they were developed in Pennsylvania.

What great outdoor spaces you have to work with! Never grown anything in your zone, but pumpkins are a very attractive plant even without the gourds and native bees seem to like them. I have been able to train the vines to fit into some odd spaces. I have even let them cascade down from a raised bed. Definitely get the nasturtiums planted, as they are the most hobbity of flowers.

Many cities allow hens, no roosters. Take care of using chicken mature, it's very strong. I love my chickens and ducks, but they will tear up your garden. Good fencing. I loved gardening in the south, now I am in the foothills of California. Be careful of wisteria. There are some soft varieties, but even these can take over everything and can pull structures apart just not as quickly as the tougher varieties. I would think in terms of potato vine or clematis (many varieties there). Also, having many camelias, they are acid soil lovers. Difficult to plant around, that is why you will see azaleas and hydrangeas planted near by. Might be worth it to have your soil tested. Shade gardens are lovely with hostas and ferns. Watch your sun pattern. The first year (and I do so each year) keep a garden journal of temperature, weather patterns and light so you can monitor your micro climates. Finally, ivy is often used in areas where nothing else grows because it is an invasive beast of a plant. I would pull it out. English ivy harbors dust and spores which irritate breathing. Not good if you want to occupy your outdoor space French ivy is not as bad. I love watching people discover their gardens and new gardeners learning the wonder of plants and outdoor spaces. Blessed be

Gardening tip: be very careful with which plants you actually plant on the ground, some plants are invasive. they reproduce themselves really fast and take over your garden. try to identify if you already have some of those. for example, you might like that ivy is invasive, because you might want your house covered with ivy. but some plants you might need to control and trim. if you have an invasive plant already, trying to remove if is going to be hard. but better start now than later! mint is invasive, so its best to keep it in a pot. try to plant bee friendly flowers + native wildlife!! first things first, clean up your garden. gather dead leaves. identify which plants you already have. your house and garden are beautiful. hope this helps
@ana-yf4wo
@ana-yf4wo 2 года назад
about ivy being invasive, that one is a complicated topic. research it! it depends on the plant, but its best for it to grow from a pot.
