A not so quick garden update. Battling cabbage worms and skunks.
Day 512/498/421 of chicken tending
Day 121 as rabbit whisperer
WHO ARE YOU??!!
I'm a simple woman that rambles and shows you chickens or rabbits or plants. Married, kids....you know the thing.
I am creating a micro-homestead on my .45 acres in eastern West Virginia. My goal is to become more self-sufficient for the health and security of myself and my loved ones. I also want to share and learn with others about homesteading so those that may be hesitant can see how easy and rewarding it is (no matter where they live) while growing my own knowledge.

The chickens may like the cabbage worms.

Those worms would make great fish bait.

Bush beans don't need to be trellised. They can get really tall/floppy but don't have tendrils or act much like a vine. Something around them, like your chicken wire fence support, is good though because the stalks are fairly fragile can broken in a wind storm. ...However, it might make it hard to get to the beans, which grow at the bottom of the plant? Did you try sprinkling coffee grounds around the broccoli bed with a little on the leaves? Was having huge problem with ants this year and that's what's finally kept them off the leaves. (...More or less. 90%+ better, anyway.)

I wonder if people stacked tomatoes vertically to keep the fruit UP off the ground more.
