Yeah but you can’t expect people to dress up and act like it’s a job when you’re paying them 10k for first place finishes. Hopefully the prize funds and marketing increase to the point that pool can actually be a rewarding enough option for the pros and they don’t have to make most of their living schilling products and gambling.
@bw4593 it doesn't work that way, you CAN expect people to do that if they want the game to grow.....the prize funds increase because the playerbase grows. That's what starts the ball rolling.
What it looks like to me. Snooker style 10ft table with american balls. The thicker cloth and they say tighter pockets but those pockets look just as big as any diamond professional american table. I own one and you cant have two balls in the hole of the pocket touching. Just like here.
@@Tjs736 Chinese 8 ball is played with american sized balls, on a snooker table, but its a 9ft snooker table not a full sized 12ft snooker table, snooker cloth which is slower and nappier, and snooker sized pockets, so with the smaller pockets and larger balls it becomes more difficult to pocket balls. I watched a video with a professional explaining it. Also has a little bit different rules. If a pocket is blocked but your opponents ball you can hit your ball into their ball knocking their ball in and its loss of turn but your opponent doesn't get ball in hand so if you position the cue ball correctly after the shot it really puts your opponent at a disadvantage.
@5wisher5weet I remember when I first saw the game being played that potting looked really hard. Now, it doesn't so much. So something has changed in that time. That's my point.
The ref says illegal break, Im assuming that they have a break rule where you have to play hard to spread the balls. Probably hit it too soft which means more clutter in the middle of the table
@tomgibbons7630 like I said, because all the balls in a rack must touch. Without a template, they might move because a cloth has naps. That's why they don't use a triangle
It's because the rules state you should call a ball unless it's obvious to the referee what you're shooting at. Sometimes these were cautious calls maybe, but better than being called foul for not declaring.
I came to the comments for the same answer… I play in a pool league (English black ball pool rules) and this seemed like a legal break… not the exact same game but very similar…
Ah I googled the chinese 8-ball rules and it stipulates that four balls must cross the “head string” (baulk line) OR one ball potted with three passing the head string, OR two potted and two crossing, and so-on. The rules we typically see are two balls must pass the mid-line or a ball must be potted.
So, at 30:26 we see Potts pot ONE ball and THREE pass the baulk line making it a legal break. If that one ball hadn’t fallen into the pocket it would have been illegal. Fun!
But then again at 38:50 the break only has two balls pass this line and one go into a pocket… maybe the tules are slightly different I don’t know 😂 maybe the cue ball counts??
i’m new to this game, but it’s not only because the break was dry. you have to make a certain amount of points (which i don’t know how to add up yet) but basically you get points for potting and for colored balls going over the line. they rerack when you don’t make the points, i think thats it
The break rules are complicated for the reason of Fair Play. Its to prevent a player from using a "soft break" to consistently Pot, let's say the Wing Ball, the corner balls. If the player can do that, all he needs is a soft break to "un cluster" the balls into a pattern that makes it easier to run out. This is why the break is Alternate + "minimum" power.
These guys are in trouble if any of the jayson shaws, albin oushans, filler types decide to learn this for the huge paydays. Because they would dominate this game.
@@andrewverrett568 at 9 ball. I’d they played snooker Judd would win 1000/1000. And Chinese 8 ball is closer to snooker than it is to 9 ball in terms of carry over of skills. Top 9 ball players don’t do well in other cue sports
