Mine too, by far! I’m grateful for a man who represents us with decency, who has changed the mentality and success of the team and made supporting England fun again. I’ve absolutely loved his time in charge and would be gutted to see it end.
I actually do feel sorry for Gareth. I think there could be a better manager for the job but credit where credit is due he hasn’t done as bad as the hate he’s receiving. He’s done a better job than most.
He's our best manager ever! OK Ramsey won a world cup. But that is one tournament. This guy has THREE semi finals in four tournaments. Prior to him we had three semi finals in our whole history.
His record is good, very good by far the most consistent manager in terms of results. But they come across as cowards on the pitch and they can't beat a big team and choke every time. There's zero fight. I'm a Middlesbrough man, I will always have a soft spot for him but he's not evolved as a manager in one way, he's exactly the same as he was at Boro.
He's had the luckiest run of fixtures ever and as soon as we meet a decent team we are out as usual with him sitting on his hands terrified to make changes
Hearing Gareth say it's all he's ever wanted to bring joy and good memories to the fans is so sad. I hate the stick gareth has copped and how those horrible people have changed their tunes now it's going their way. Support through the highs n lows, not just the highs. so shameful :( he's a good man and coach
Very thoughtful man. More interesting than people give him credit for and he really cares passionately. It’s not fun to watch but it’s not mindless that’s for sure. Hope it works out for him
How can u not love Southgate we have had some of the most successful years under him and still most people r calling him rotten I’m disappointed by them
For those saying Southgate might be bit too pally with the players and not ruthless enough, remember the proven winner and disciplinarian Fabio Capello had a good pool of players and did nothing of note with them.
Its an impossible job, Southgoat has led England to be a favourite for tournaments, to win penalty shootouts, reach a final, but then gets us to a 3rd semi in 4 tournaments and nobody is happy 😂 We've played teams with a back 5 for the last 3 games, we beat a Slovakia side that beat Belgium, we beat a Swiss team France didnt beat and that KOd Italy, and got the exact same result against Slovenia as Portugal did. It's almost like beating the best players from every country in Europe is quite hard to do
@blue_red_screen You know they only come around once every two years? There's not exactly many international managers or countries that win often, and to get consistent deep runs is an obvious sign of massive improvement.
@billybobthornton9668 what about the nations league? 3 more chances not taken so a total of 7 including this euros. Before you say the nations league doesn't count, Croatia fans were devastated after they lost the final last year
@@blue_red_screen The Nations League doesn't count mate. I'm a West Ham fan, we won the Conference League and if felt great, but it's a third rate competition so it counts for sweet FA to the rest of the world 😂 You're telling me you'd be happy if he'd won the Nations League? Even all the money in the world didn't turn Man City into world beaters overnight, he's trying to break a run of awful results, including other managers who didn't even get past the qualifiers with equally heralded squads. He's now developed a squad with experience of reaching major finals and that's often a crucial part of tournament football, I mean, how many times do the minnows win the Champion's League? We've been minnows in terms of our history in these competitions, so we don't suddenly have a right to expect to win and especially not when you consider how volatile tournament football is! Yeah we might have been able to do better with someone else, but who else would you pick that's achievable? Thinking about those options, or lack thereof, Southgate suddenly looks a lot more enticing.
@billybobthornton9668 well it would be a trophy which is better than nothing. And comparing it to the conference league makes no sense. Conference league doesn't have elite European teams. Nations league does
W are behind you Gareth one thing no one can question is how he’s made the men’s national team a team again not just 11 club rivals. That’s what held us back in the past and fear and ego. That’s the reason we’ve gone further in recent years and battled back. Is because of the chemistry and belief in one another. Come on England I’d be so happy you aswell Gareth you’ve been under a lot of jumping on the bandwagon unfair stick 🏴🦁❤️
It’s gonna be hard- but I’m watching France 🇫🇷 v Spain 🇪🇸 and it’s already 2-1 to Spain 🇪🇸- but what’s most shocking is how open they are, both playing high lines- so maybe we can do something special- come on England 🏴 ♥️🔥⚡️
When Gareth was appointed as England manager I was skeptical and critical, however he proved me wrong conclusively by bringing me more England joy than any other manager I've ever seen in my lifetime. I think the mob-like criticism he's faced this tournament has been absolutely absurd and is a cold reflection of how the British mindset can get toxic quickly. Things were dull early on in the tournament, but it's not like any of the players or Gareth "wanted" to play dull, boring football- there was simply a huge mental block and pressure that comes with the England shirt. We have to be able to see the nuances and give Gareth credit and praise for what he's achieved, which is remarkable.
True England fans love you Gareth. We’ve done the best we have for decades because of you. Your philosophy and emotional connections clearly influences the players and we thank you for that.
playing to stay in the game and giving your stars time to do the business isn't the same as playing cautious because you are scared, it's a strategy and it is working, just becasue you don't like the look of the football on offer, doesn't mean it is lacking in tactics
his demeanor hasn’t changed and while still very composed, you can tell he opens up a bit more and is actually quite frank and positive. England has a real chance here.
I like Southgate. He has been arguably our best ever manager, or at least one of. Time to bring it home. Cmon Gareth, and cmon ENGLAND!!!🎉🎉 🏴🏴⚽️⚽️
Even tho we all get on to you Gareth, we can’t forget u had the balls to take the pen in euro 96 when others didnt wanna step up you are the gaffer and u win this cup for us u will go down a legend forever! Either way gta respect ya even if you are a bit a pillack sometimes
I think we’re allowed to support them whilst being critical of how they play. We aren’t playing attractive exciting football like we know we can, being the best squad in the euros, which is frustrating. However we are getting good results which is encouraging. It’s very conflicting being an England fan right now
grateful for what ..beating teams ranked way lower by the skin of their teeth then getting knocked out by the first decent team they face because of the lack of courage to go for a second goal /
Great management, won nothing yet, in 8 years?! Most of the nation’s have worse teams than us.. If he doesn’t win this tournament then how many as he cost us? 1996? Etc etc..
I saw a ridiculous video from talksport, with Alex Crook calling the England squad thin skinned, trying to ignore the culture of fear which has been referred to many times before. They wouldn't have made it to be playing for England if they were thin skinned. The truth is, talksport have been one of the worst propagators of bullying and criticism of the staff and players, constantly moaning, picking, criticising, and encouraging others to do the same. This doesn't support the team, it does the opposite. So thank you talksport and other media, ITV and more, and loads of fans, for creating an environment in which players feel that negative pressure. It is about time it stopped. Supportiing and backing the team, making them feel ten feet tall will get much better results than the opposite. No team has the right to win every game, to play beautiful football, and we all know England have done very little of that for a long time. We finally have a team which had sustained later involvement in tournaments, winning penalty shoot outs and more, and it's still not enough. Please focus on the positives, and when discussing the negatives, keep things in perspective. A lot of these media teams, pundits etc can deliver really good analytical shows, great insights and more, i prefer they focus on those things.
How Gabriel is still a interviewer for itv coverage of england is beyond me he is ask rubbish questions and his whole tone and demina makes it impossible for me to watch the whole of his interviews Itv need to freshen up
Gareth has done a great job, it might not have been pretty but he's getting the job done, handled a massive amount of pressure and negativity as well and continues to prove people wrong!!! let win this!!!!
When you have repeated recent success, it turns to future expectations. In 2018 there were no expectations, which is what really helped the players to play their best and not wilt
I think the abuse Gareth has received is nothing short of appalling, and it's no wonder so many mangers are so reticent to take the England job. I too have questions about some of his decisions during this tournament, and I have no issue with genuine criticism, but it needs to be acknowledged that he has been the most successful manager of England for decades. The clowns who were pelting beer at him will most likely change their tune and sing "Southgate you're the one" if he does manage to pull this off. The fickleness of English fans is ridiculous.
The last 2 WC ands Euros before Southgate. Destroyed by Germany 4-1 in the R16 of WC 2010 Lost a QF against Italy where Italy had 20 shots on target to Englands 4 and beaten on pens in Euro 12 Got Grouped without a win in WC14 And that Iceland game in 2016 After Southgate, 1 close QF exit to the reigning champs where England played the ‘better football’ 1 WC semi 2 years after the embarrassment of Iceland with a very weak squad. 1 Euros Final where England lost narrowly. And now a euros semi final. People seem to forget just how bad England were. Now England are a constant presence at the later stages. Yes this Euros England have played poorly, but for the first time in my lifetime England can grind out results. Even if Southgate doesn’t win anything, he has created an England squad with the mentality to not crumble under pressure and a team that actually seems to be able to win.
Having good team doesn't always mean great results, Erikson had Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Owen. Capello had Gerrad, Lampard, Rooney. Yet they didn't any tournament,
Have a look at that team of 2010 Ashley Cole Frank Lampard Steven Gerard John Terry Wayne Rooney Joe Cole Massive names and a mix of experience and young talent. Knocked out in the round of 16 with a thrashing. 2006 WC All of the above names and Beckham Ferdinand Neville Got knocked out by a mediocre Portugal side in the quarterfinals. And failed to even qualify for the 2008 euros!
I'll always have love for Southgate... He re-engaged the national love / passion for the England national team... he's delivered well in every major tournament. Are there better tactical managers for England? Of course there are... but you'll be pushed to find a manager that the players love and respect more. He'll be passing on a serious torch to his predecessor in the coming months.
It’s very honest to talk about wanting to avoid public embarrassment. But hopefully now they all understand as long as we can see they care, and are fighting every second of the game we will be proud. Like how Georgia made most of us proud in their games because they just never gave up
2nd half England vs Netherlands, England have 2 constantly chase the ball down when its in the Netherlands possession constantly, and the most other important point is 2 win the match is if England can't pass the ball outside the 18 yard box into the box have a shot don't be scared England has got 100 million pound strikers if england can't pass the ball outside the Netherlands 18 yard box to cross it in the box just have a shot, JUST Have A SHOT
@@mrnumba154 It’s true though. The FA are very happy with him. For me, I personally hope he stays because I like how he’s gelled the group. But it’s the noise that has bothered him this time around. Even if he lifts the trophy, I think he may still take retirement, or make a return to club football (with Man United apparently interested in the way that Gareth works).
@@bobbypukes605 The FA are a bunch of absolute idiots. The guy hasn't got a clue, bar a couple of moments of individual brilliance we would have been of of this competition having played absolutely no body of note. He is tactically inept and so slow to respond to what is happening on the field. How inferior tactical ability hasade excellent players look rubbish, I hope he goes. Players are very different these days, This squad would have gelled regardless, players from rival clubs hang around together nowadays.
I saw an interesting post today essentially saying that support and positivity are counter-culture. For whatever reason now (maybe the algorithm, or insecurity, or the inability to stay relevant), there is a "performative cruelty" occurring en masse in both social and mainstream media spaces. It's demonstrating some kind of 'hardassery', not because they genuinely believe in it or live that way themselves, but because they want to promote that kind of image of toughness. I guess they called it machismo back in the day, and it's definitely performative.
Both the semis and final Gareth couldn't find a way to beat the opposition. He's not got that elite tactician skill which is precisely why England fell over on the final hurdle.
He may not be the best manager in the world, but he's given us memories that we didn't have in my lifetime before him. We're with you Gareth BRING IT HOME
England pre Southgate 🏴 No semi final in two decades England with Southgate 🏴 2018 World Cup semi final 2020 euros final 2022 World Cup quarter final 2024 euro semi final (for now) Southgate is doing a great job
He's had the luckiest draws of any manager, during a time when England are strong, and other usually strong nations are weak. And he's blown it. He has only beaten who England of any generation would already be expected to beat. As soon as there is an opponent who is good, he loses. I hope that changes this year, but it's Gareth Southgate, and look at how England are playing. It won't change.
@@66kaisersoza correct but he’s the best things that’s happened to England since he took over prior to him we never got to major tournament knockouts in over 20 years so he’s doing something right
Gareth might not be the best tactician and manager, but has been crucial in changing England for the better in areas of togetherness, confidence and penalties, which have been historic failures of England
Does anyone notice he doesn’t dismiss the comments regarding Kane’s fitness or injury questions. I think if Kane was generally fit, he would be made up to dismiss the questions. Non the less… Goodluck and hopefully Kane bags a hatrick and silences everyone
Troubling how fragile and entitled these modern players are. Most criticism comes from fans who care and are passionate and expect better. We have been making mountains out of molehills all tournament and have been lucky to still be in it multiple times.
Oh dear. Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world, one of the best England has ever had. Your comment is an embarrassment to you, just one person. (What have you ever done in your life? I don’t know, but I wouldn’t want to judge.) The majority of us are behind England. Bring it on.
The fact that Southgate’s first comments regarding Saka’s and Kane’s performances was in reference to their defensive contribution tells you everything you need to know about this man. It’s embarrassing.
He's got us to the 3rd semi final in 4 tournaments, and all most can do is moan, it really is pathetic. It's not passionate, it's ignorant and entitled. Be constructive with criticism instead of destructive. He takes the flak from the players, he's calm and collected. He's not the greatest, but he's the best England manager in my lifetime in my opinion, and I'm 45.
@@user-si3rc4ut8s exactly, I remember what it was like before he was here, like the Hodgson era etc, Keegan who was wanted for his passion and attacking football, Capello who was wanted for his reputation and discipline... The FA have listened to the fans so many times, and each time it ended badly. Southgate has not only built a team, he's helped to build a structure for the future, that knows how to play in tournaments for a start
Another manager would have won something with this team. Hodgson had a crap squad Capello had the aging golden generation Sven had a good team. But he was too pragmatic much like Gareth Southgate. That team being more imbalanced than Gareth's squad
@@66kaisersozaWhat makes you so sure? Pep has won one CL with City, Sir Alex 2 with United, Jose 2. The list goes on. It’s very, very difficult to get over the line in tournaments. Why are you making excuses for the other England managers of the past? An aging golden generation?! 😂 You need to check your facts mate, most of the players were under 30. Almost all were in their prime. Southgate isn’t a great coach, but he has brought unity. A team that we can proud of. There’s no guarantee another coach would’ve done that. The players obviously work their arses off for him too. He cares so much, and that means something.
Gareth is English to the Core, in his Life but most importantly he gave everything to Englands Cause, he has never spoke about his personal sacrifice to what he believes in ! Obviously he must have an amazing Family outside of football !! To survive the bad press from former collogues, it shows his through strength!! As an Irishman Big Jack was our Hero! And still is,! Gareth and his Boys are True Hero’s YOU THE ENGLISH Public do not be doped by Past Losers ! Lineker , Shearer, & Co are The Real Embarrassment,!
Utter bollocks. He is completely out of his depth. We will see a great team emerge when he leaves! Hopefully in a few days! One of the worst managers I've ever seen at this level!
Interviewer is like the grim reaper. I would advise England team and manager moving forward to not take interviews until the tournament is over . Be it as winners or not
He should be saving these sort of comments fora book later on. But I guess it’s reverse psychology on the media and fans constantly negative. Little guilt trick.
