The band Garfeel Ruff was formed in 1974 by brothers Rickey Godfrey and Ronnie Godfrey and was signed to Capitol Records in 1979, releasing two albums. They performed the theme song to the 1979 movie The Hitter, starring Ron O' Neal and Sheila Frazier.
