Written by the label's songwriting-producing team, The Corporation (Berry Gordy, Alphonzo Mizell, Christine Perren, Freddie Perrenn and Deke Richards),[1] the song was recorded for the Jackson brothers' 1970 seasonal album, entitled The Jackson 5 Christmas Album. The song was well received critically upon release of the album. The festive track went on to be covered by groups such as The Temptations, New Edition, BlackGirl, and solo artists such as Coko and Johnny Gill. - Wikipedia

Not taking anything away from Johnny Gill but the Jacksons version of this song will always be the best. If you are missing loved ones during the holidays ( like a lot of us are) this song can make you smile than weep, no other version can top it

Well, RB, for my money the J-5 version has the broadest appeal to all the family. The Johnny Gill version is for Santa & Mom after some brandy & cognac; so it sorta depends on how YOU’LL be celebrating. 🌲🕯💚🕯🌲🕯💚🌲

Jackson Five hands down. If you compare new edition it’s a conversation but as a solo artist Jonny is no match! On the world stage from Europe to Asia JG is almost unknown. In London he was big but just our people. J5 transcended all cultures and races

You have to consider in London,or any where it hard for a black man to be better than a white man, in other words michael had a voice tone that's more in line with a white voice Johnny sound too black in that context. You would find more whites like Michael voice because of that, not saying more blacks didn't like Michael voice better, but you'll find more whites did for that reason.

I think we take for granted that Michael Jackson was a child genius. A prodigy. You aren't supposed to sing like that at such a young age. He was really one the most special human beings ever. Johnny did good but Michael and his brothers got it. I like how little MJ pronounces every syllable and belts on the chorus. Not close.

I can't compare. Both Amazing for their era. I'm from both. When the Jackson 5 did it, I was a little girl. When Johnny Gill did it I was a young lady. So with that being said, both did a beautiful. Both stole my heart.

IT’S NOT ONLY FEELING , IT’S THE RIGHT FEELINGS BEHIND THE COMPOSITION : Don’t have time to analyze it , but the second version is missing something the first had beyond a shadow of a doubt . I think it’s because although the Jackson’s version was composed to be a slow song , but it was also composed to be an upbeat tempo sounding song at the same time . No one can compete with Michael alone , how in heaven or hell can anyone compete with his brothers along with him ? No competition , the Jackson 5 hands down .
