The best interpretation I've seen is that Garfield hates Mondays because Jon had to go to work. Of course, we never see Jon at work, and he is a comic strip writer, and appears to work at home in the early strips. But, still, it's something. And it's sweet.

Garfield hated Mondays because he was house cat and was too proud to say that he would miss John, his owner, when he would leave for work after having had him around all weekend. But otherwise, yes, this was a pretty poor game. [Edit: I was mistaken. John's occupation in cannon is a cartoonist who works at home. Garfield's dislike of Mondays is still not quite explained except that it is a silly thing for a cat to specifically dislike.]

Garfield has no job, he doesn't have to go to school, he has no responsibilities whatsoever. And, even so, he hates Mondays, a weekday, that should be like any other. What is hidden beneath the Gorfs hatred of this weekday? Is it a traumatic experience? Maybe the death of his beloved girlfriend Lasaga happened on a monday. Or, even more probably, every Monday he is beat to the brink of exhaustion by John, whom funnels his rage over the start of the new weekday onto his pet, thus creating a negative stigma over the day inside of the snoozing animal. We might never know. We might also never care.

i would have to say that garfield standing up and saying "God, I'm hungry," with _that_ expression on his face and _that_ music playing is maybe the best way to start a game possible.

Garfield hating Mondays was eventually explained as Mondays quite literally being cursed for him. As in, horror levels of curse.

honestly, while the creator has some trouble with grammar every now and then, I think this game really captures the spirit of the Garfield cartoon. Even some of the "moon logic" honestly wouldn't look out of place in the mild weirdness of that cartoon. They clearly put a lot of effort into it and if you took this plot it'd fit right in. They were more ambitious than their skills for music or graphic design allowed but honestly, with some polish this would actually be pretty legit.

when your job is at a place that works everyday, Mondays become just generic days. Sundays are the worst, it's like a full day crammed into a 6-8 hour time slot.
