The problem is that any mapping uploaded to the community must be reviewed by Garmin engineers and as a result will take several months or more before it is available for download by other active captain users.

I'm hoping you can help with this ? What's the difference between the Garmin striker Plus7 sv and the Garmin Viv 7 SV try to buy one and can not make out the difference between the two. Thank you for the great video and info you are putting up

The Garmin vivid series is the newer version of the striker series and I believe it is meant to replace the striker series. The only difference that I know of is that the vivid now has more color options for your sonar.

Does active captain let you mirror the sonar images on your phone or tables that’s showing on the finders screen?

Thanks for your videos. I have the same one but suck at using it. Time and being impatient probly. Maybe u can help. On the updates for plotter I have an error message of no compatible device found under activecaptain community. Right above quickdraw community.

What’s the difference between the striker plus and the vivid. The plus costs more but is the vivid just the newer model.

The only thing that I know is different is that you get more color options for your sonar but everything else is the same.

@@Marcs_TV thank you for the reply. I have the 7sv and I’m going to upgrade to the 9sv and mount the 7 on the bow to view when I’m on the trolling motor. Do you know by chance if the plug-in’s are the same for the 7sv and 9sv. If not it’s just more wiring. Also do you have any suggestions for transducer upgrades. Thank you in advance

@@playboymuddin I think the plugs should be the same. I am not sure about any transducer upgrades. If you wanted to do that then upgrading to the Echomap series would be the way to go. The plugs would not be the same if you upgraded to the Echomap.

With most companies including maps on their units why wouldn’t Garmin? Isn’t there enough to do already when fishing from a boat, without having to mess with your phone the whole time?

I think Garmin was trying to provide a line of fish finders at an affordable price and the easy way to do that is not to include the maps. For me fishing small lakes I did not have a problem with no maps. I have now started to fish larger lakes and an Echomap unit would make more sense with the included maps but the vivid still gets the job done.

The striker series is designed for affordability as well for people who are in smaller waterways, ponds, lakes, rivers etc that will likely never have mapping and don't really need mapping but would like the fish finding and waypoint capabilities. Much of the striker series are used on kayaks, pontoons and smaller vessels.

Why would you buy a unit with out maps? Ur missing the best part of ac.

Two reasons. 1. It is cheaper. 2. Most of the lakes I fish are backwaters that don't have maps. And if they do, the maps are 20+ years old and not accurate at all. I would much rather draw my own maps.
