I just bought this the other day. I love this GPS. You can physically type the address in on unit or type the address on your phone then the phone transfers the info to the GPS or you say OK Garmin and ask for direction. Not to mention live traffic reports. It's constantly communicating with your phone getting all kind of info about what's up ahead on your trip

A year later I bought the McNally Overdrive 7 second edition and immediately updated the GPS . I wasted 600$ the Garmin absolutely destroys Rand McNally!!!!! Do not buy the Rand McNally you will be sorry. Hopefully if you do you still kept your Garmin. Lmao lesson learned

I’ve been driving for almost 18 years. I got into using GPS about 8 years ago. I currently use a Garmin Dezl. I’ve had Rand McNally units previously. RM’s aren’t durable for the long haul. I’ve had the Garmin for 4 years and have had no issues. Great video!

I've been using my TND 730 for six years now and surprisingly, it is still going strong. However, that has not been the case with most of my friends' units. Hence, I believe my particular unit is the exception rather than the rule.

I have been driving a truck for 16 years and I just bought this GPS 700 and this is my third garmin, the one from 16 years ago still worked but it had too little memory and I used it for 8-9 years, the one I have now is also about 8 years old, it also works , I just had to buy a memory card and the maps work great, just sometimes it's too hard to press the letters, that's why I bought the 700 and I think it will also work for 8-10 years, garmin is a great GPS.

The previous models had those ball joint mounts. Mine would sag when it got hot and I’d be on a bumpy road. I used Gorilla glue to hold it in place but it didn’t work to well so I broke down and bought a universal windshield mount from the truck stop. I’m still using that mount today. Oh and truth be told I’m watching this vid from the Loves in Knightstown IN....funny you mentioned the roads being bumpy...lol they sure are all the way through Indy on 70! I just picked up the Garmin OTR 700 today. I only paid $40 and used the rest of my points at Pilot Flying J. It was on sale so I jumped on it. I’m coming from an older Garmin Dezl760. My impressions Between the two units are: 760 . Feels more solid but more old school. The screen is definitely lo-res and the CPU is slower compared to the OTR 700. It looks like Garmin revamped the software by hiding multiple features behind buttons rather than configuring separate buttons as is the case on the 760. OTR 700: screen is very crisp and Hi-Res. Very snappy on Boot Up. Very feature rich, Bluetooth to your smart phone and use the Garmin Drive app and you will have tons of online features displayed on the Garmin unit. The 760 was quite a bit older and definitely more primitive compared to this unit. I thought I was being a little frivolous by buying the OTR 700 but now I’m glad I did. Even though they both have the same screen size, the OTR 700 is quite a bit smaller because of the smaller case and smaller bezels. I like the dashboard on the 760 where I could have 4 Information fields displayed simultaneously. You get the same thing on the OTR 700, you just have to touch the speed display and it will display everything I had on the dashboard. I was concerned I was going to have to keep a Wi-Fi connection between the GPS and my phone to get all of the features, but that’s not the case. Wi-Fi is only needed when you’re downloading software and map updates. Otherwise, everything is transmitted over Bluetooth which is always enabled on my phone anyway. From what I can tell, if the Garmin power cord ever went bad you could just buy a USB mini cord and plug it into a standard charger with this unit. The 760 has a special adapter for traffic where this unit is getting that information from your smart phone. My old power cord was going out on the 760 and I had to tape it to keep it connected. It’s nice to know I can buy something inexpensive and generic rather than having to buy it from Garmin. I just got my unit a few hours ago and have already updated the software and now I am updating the maps but it’s going take a whole day because my hotspot data is very slow right now. It’s nice not to have to plug it into a computer to update it as was the case with the 760. Does anyone know how to enable the breadcrumb trail? Or, is it automatically enabled on the unit. I didn’t see the setting like I have on my 760. Due to being stuck at a truckstop with a broken collarbone, my drive testing is very limited. Thanks

My friend bought a Rand McNally and I think he’s going to regret it. I’m stuck at a truckstop with a broken collarbone so I have not done a drive test on this GPS yet. Mine doesn't move at all, I drive across US30 from Fort Wayne to Chicago and back almost daily, terrible roads. I'll tell you where the GPS really shines, watching the speedzones. I'm allowed 5mph over for bonus and keeping the GPS in view on top of dash I can always glance at it and know my speedzones. You can move, edit, add, delete the info boxes on the right side. Mine are distance to destination, time to destination and Time Of Day. Try roughing the ball for mount up with some 120 sandpaper, might help.

@standodge5536 4 года назад
I also waited. I nearly dropped the money on a Dezl 780 earlier this year. Something told me to wait it out. I’m glad I did. The new Rand McNally’s are coming out as well as these newer model Garmins. I have a Garmin 770 I got off LetGo and it works but sometimes it routes me strangely...go 5miles up the road and come back down the other side of the interstate to get to the truck stop thats across the street..???? Whaaat? So I want a new one. Newer software mainly.
@theblackdog2399
@theblackdog2399 4 года назад
@@standodge5536 Yeah, that's my main concern about the Garmins. As I have read a lot of people reporting about the same issue with their Garmins when trying to go to truck stops. So I would like to know if they fixed that issue in the newer Garmins. As that problem has been ongoing for a quite long time and across several Garmin models. Also I've always heard that the truck stop databases in the Garmins are also not as up to date as the Rand McNallys as well. Hopefully, someone using a newer model can read this an enlighten us if those things have been fixed and improved or if it is still an issue. Anyway, I'm still using my old TND 730 and the battery in it lasted for far longer than the batteries in any of my friends' TND 730s. Anyway, the battery finally died on me about a year ago. So like everybody else, I have to leave it plugged in all the time to run it. However, that's the only issue I've had with it since I've had. Not to mention that the continuous updates over the years have also enhanced it a great deal more than it originally was since I first got it and I still like the display of the TND 730 the best. As to me, that was the best display ever. The display on it is probably the biggest reason I stuck with it for so long and of course, the familiarity with using it is another.

@Craig Ryan someone broke into my car and stole two GPS, including the Dezl 785. I bought the TND 750, it is very good GPS, it calculates the routes very fast, much faster than Garmin GPS, it is full of features, although many of them are not working, I already reported it to Rand McNally, another thing I found was that they can only be added up to 9 stops, not up to 50 as it was being advertised on the website, they already corrected that information, also, in the device that I bought it reported a battery of 1000 mha instead of the 4000 mah that they reported on the site, I sent them back the device for checking, it must be returned in the next few days.

Instead of this purchase, why not just use your smartphone's navigation?
@CraigRyan
@CraigRyan 4 года назад
Well, I guess that would work Mike, but I don't like to have any more interaction with my phone than necessary while driving. Also, it's very small in comparison. There's no doubt google maps is great, but it's not made for trucks. Thanks!

Because google maps doesn’t use weight limits, hazmat, height limits, and “no trucks” areas.

@@CraigRyan Well, I bought one and returned it by the end of day! Wow.. what a piece of CRAP! The thing immediately sent me down a wrong road 15 miles and made me exit to get back on going the opposite way. STRIKE ONE! I knew the right way, but I thought maybe it had some secret routing I was unaware of... NOPE. Crazy... Never do that again. You also cannot have it display truck stops or wayside rests along your route. It shows everything surrounding you. STRIKE TWO! Now, STRIKE THREE was a bunch of various smaller things... but one I can not go without is knowing the remaining miles of my trip or POI arrival. Rand McNally does on my TND 730. I love the TND 730 the best of ALL their GPS's. I told tech support my thoughts on it, as well. Not sure they will do anything about it. Anyway, NO MORE Garmin's for me!! Peace

@@truckerron these are curious issues you are having. I don't have this model Garmin gps but the one I have does give you the option to look for rest areas, etc along your route. Its default setting is to look near you but that issue can be easily addressed. I also have no problem displaying estimated time of arrival or distance to destination. You can customize the settings to have at least one of these on the main screen and a touch of a button will give me other data. As for the routing issue, I've learned the hard way to review the route before departure. The Navigo system my company has installed has made a number of errors in this regard. I have no experience with the Rand McNally gps but I am happy it works for you. I am probably going to upgrade to this unit as my 6 year old Garmin is beginning to have power issues. I like the ability I've had with Garmins of the past to transfer the hundreds of locations I have saved over the years into a new one. Safe travels.

Rand Mcnally used to show the icons for scales, cat scales and truck stops... They did away with those with the latest version. Both Garmin and Rand Mcnally are garbage. They need to hand driver's in on the R&D.
