Thanks for your question. Sadly Garmin do not produce OS maps for any unit so, as you suggest, you could use the pre installed maps. Alternatively many people use the Talkie Toaster maps - talkytoaster.me.uk/

The good old Colarado 300, I was at an event (geocaching) this weekend and somebody had one, a great unit in their day. Loved the rocker, it kind of came from the the old iPod interface, didn't it? I think the big change you will see is the OS mapping on the screen. Tom, thanks for your question. There is not a lot of difference between the eTrex 30x and 32x, the 32x has Garmin Topo Active maps, larger internal memory and a new screen. I hope this helps.

Many thanks for your message. Sadly you can't select how you get the elevation data on the 32x, if you are wanting to get this from the satellites I would encourage you to get a look at the 22x. Do you need the electronic compass There is no real need to calibrate the altimeter as it will self calibrate. Are you finding it is giving you widely inaccurate height data. If you are in the UK, do you want me to loan you a 22x to see if that does give you more of what you are looking for?

@@ukgpstraining Thanks for feedback and thanks for your kindness. I live in Denmark so that's out of the question. The price difference between 22x and 32x is almost non exist looking at online prices here so just about nothing saved by choosing 22x. The 32x also has Ant+ possibility although I'm not sure what to use that for at the moment. Most of all I just want a good allround replacement for the old Vista HCx. A unit which can be used for just about any occasion and can have lots of preloaded maps. The HCx can too but only one gmapsupp file at a time and it show its age at multiple points. Incidentally I already have an eTrex 10 but it's rather limitied and lacks proper maps possibilities. Found it at a dumpster dive along with two eTrex H which was also thrown out. The 10 had leaked batteries (vinegar is great removing that but not many know! - rinse with water afterwards), one H had a intermittent functional button (got resoldered) but common for all - they didn't work properly, gave odd results and time/date was wrong. I digged the old USB-serial adapter from years ago and made an intermistic connector to the serial adapter to the H and got all 3 updated with new firmware from Garmin as there on that time pretty recently had been an update to the GPS system. Cudos to Garmin to keep such old devices still properly working! I'm almost sure they where left unused and then thrown out because of the GPS update and the owner (a school) had no idea a simple firmware update could solve the issue - so thanks for free GPS units :D

The Garmin eTrex 32x does not have a SOS function. Units that have an 'i' after the name do - GPSMAP66i, Montana700i, Montana 750i. I hope this helps.

Sadly we have not done anything on the Dakota. A great little unit in it's time before it was replaced by the Garmin eTrex 25t which since has been discontinued.

@@ukgpstraining that's a shame as I've got one still in its box it came with that Garmin birds eye dick , so if you were to recommend one which would it be . I want to have the confidence to get out and about more . Been looking at the Inreach mini 2

I have not tried a Chinese win 3.x based gps :) Where do I find something that is better than the Etrex 32? for walking and hiking, seriously asking.

So much thanks for this comment!! I managed to see this right after I dropped an order for the etrex 30x and proceeded to cancel it. :) To plan my route only with the PC is a big no-no for me.

I own a few Garmin products as well as the etrex 32x. I have to say it works as intended once it is set up. It connects to a MAC just fine and .gpx files can be loaded easily via drag and drop. IMO The two main features are that it is small and light, and battery life is very good. Managing your set up well before a trip is the key to any successful trip outdoors.
