DC Rainmaker ALWAYS has deeply informative and useful reviews. Whenever I'm in the market for a new product I check out his review to determine product worthiness and whenever I buy a product I check out his "how to" guides to ensure I am getting the most out of it. Excellent stuff.
Coming back here to tell you, you're the reason I bought a fenix 6x pro. Why? You're the only one I could find who could show the menus and stuff you can do with it.. THANKS! :)
Thanks for this Just bought a Fenix 6x sapphire Went from the learner model Garmin 235 then to a 935 now to the Fenix which is worth every cent. What did I learn from the cheaper models, they scratch easy, not as cool as the Fenix models, down on some metrics and the Fenix seems a lot more accurate while on the run. All have behaved for a long time with good reliability. The swim gps functions on the cheaper models while swimming in a river were not good ,which is my only criticism .. Thanks for the channel DC ,full of useful info for an informed choice
Love the info...Im new to Garmin. It would be great if you could indicate which buttons you are pressing. Its hard to tell when you habe two fingers on buttons.....at least it was for me. Love the info...thanks
I have yet to own a Garmin - I ordered a Fenix 6 today - so I would have liked it if you had described how the various buttons navigate. Trying to figure out which buttons you were pushing (often you had your fingers on two or more buttons) and what each button does was not easy to determine by watching.
Another reviewer found what i think it a huge game changer when choosing between pro and sapphire and I’m curious if others are able to replicate his findings? When using the backlight in a dark environment (night time) on the pro vs sapphire, the difference is almost as big as between LCD and Oled screens. The pro is totally washed out with the familiar blue hue from past fénix watches while he sapphire has has very deep, almost Oled quality blacks,.
how is the optical HR sensor on the fenix 6? Is it more accurate than the fenix 5's? I haven't been all that impressed with Garmin's HR sensors in the past.
Thanks for the video Ray! I noticed a tiny scratch above the Garmin text in bottom of the screen. Being a Gorilla Glass 3 version - could you perhaps shed some light on the durability of the screen itself?
Why is the altitude always wrong? If this watch has an inbuilt barometer, it needs to be updated reguarly to the local conditions to remain as accurate as possible. So, does the watch allow updating of the barometer, or use GPS to measure altitude which is closer to being accurate.
Hi I have the 6x Pro, do you know when you are out on a run following a route that you can zoom in and stay zoomed in and the route continues at a macro level?
Hello, thanks for the video. Would you be able to test if the fenix series is a good enough with a reliable tracking for pool swimming. I tries forerunner 735xt but it was very unreliable and inaccurate. It would be amazing of you could test the swim tracking reliability for this range including pool and outdoor Thanks a million
Which of the Firstbeat fitness features are actually useful? Which do you use regularly? The cheapo stuff has way less of those which makes me wonder if there are a bag full of gimmicks on offer here
Does navigation work if you are hiking in the woods and get lost? What if the area is heavily covered and no clear view of the sky. Is this watch best for safety when hiking and finding your way?
At 6:06 I swear I been trying to find the workout thing lol I was at best buy checking it out as I might replace my apple watch series 3 lte as I think in demo mode some options are disabled like working out etc.
Should I get a screen protector if I got the sapphire one? I've never owned a premium gps watch before and my current apple watch screen has a lot of scratches on it.
You mention in the video that displaying seconds in the watch face reduces battery life. I googled info about displaying seconds and found an old Reddit post and someone said you had said "DCRainmaker said changes to the operating system have essentially eliminated all battery hit from the watchface showing seconds and that the new upcoming connect IQ (at least for Fenix 5, not sure Fenix 3) will allow 3rd party watchface to show constant seconds with no battery hit also." Is there a hit to battery life? If so, how much of a hit?
was going to pick up the fenix 6x pro SOLAR, but not sure about the Gorilla Glass ... Is it any good? how does it compare to garmin's sapphire crystal?
I am very concerned about this. I pulled the pin on the solar model and awaiting delivery.i emailed garmin support about the glass they gave me a very vague answer
@@MercedGonzales I will post the answer I got from Garmin here: Hi Stuart, Thank you for contacting Garmin I can confirm that the screen on the fenix 6 series will be stronger and will show in the specs and will have our new gorilla glass on the screen to make it more scratch resistant. Kind regards, Garmin Europe
Hi, just got a Garmin 6 s pro, i am looking for a feature :where do i see the total distance ,running plus all day walking ? and can it be displayed on the screen instead of last activity distance?
Does the Fenix 6 display the running PR for 1Km in History > Records> Running? My watch starts with the 1 Mile. The 1 KM is on garmin connect but will not show on the fenix running record on the watch itself.
I am wondering about a feature if it can be achieved somehow. I will present the situation. I take my bike to a lake nearby where I usually swim. What I want is one activity for the bike ride to the lake and back home. If I start a ride, I can pause and resume later. Provided that I don't do any activities in between. Is there a way to pause an activity to resume later, do another workout. Then afterwards resume the first activity?
Hi, I’m interested in buying the Fenix 6x (still hesitant between sapphire and pro) and would like to get your experience with the Bluetooth connection to the phone. Is it still weak as it used to be with the Fenix 5? (Used to get disconnected when leaving the room) Thanks.
Random Tech Thanks for coming back. I have an iPhone 8+ but it is more related to the watch itself due the the metal back which affects the BT range. This is what I read in different reviews for Fenix 5.
I am interested in Fenix 6s pro model. How many data pages there are? In Forerunner 630 is 4 data pages and Forerunner 245 is 3 data pages. How many data pages are in Fenix 6s pro? I am considering shall I buy Forerunner 945 or Fenix 6s pro model. I am only interested in running/walking.
Prior to moving to Amsterdam a couple years ago, I lived in Paris, and they were giving them out at the clothing store Le Coq, for which there was one a few blocks away from our apartment. Cheers!
Hello! Never use UltraTrac unless you're literally going a gazillion hours very slowly (walking or slower). It's a horribly low GPS recording rate, so it'll skip lots of turns. I'd recommend GPS+GLONASS right now, it's what Garmin spends the most time optimizing in their testing.
Hi Ray, just a question regarding the body condition metrics. If I cycle with my garmin 1030 it tracks everything and considers my conditioning, recovery time etc. . If I do a indoor Zwift session I don't get those metrics when it uploads to garmin/strava using original kicker. If I use my garmin Fenix 6 while zwifting I assume it will record all metrics , but then it gets 2 of the same workout uploaded to strava, 1 from kickr and 1 from watch. What if I don't save the watch workout and disregard, will it still get the recovery metrics? What is the best way would you suggest? Cheers mate. P.S. Didn't purchase the Crystal Sapphire model this time as the watch will be irrelevant in 12 months anyway. ;)
Does anyone know a video that shows the navigation map for the base mode fenix 6? I know it doesn't have the topo maps but does it have the basic regular map of all plain white and a single route with gpx courses you downloaded like the fenix 3 does?
Hi, i have a fenix 6X...but when i click the options for the running, the pacepro is not showing..i already set up a course through garmin connect..can anybody help me? thanks!
I have just sent mine back to store the screen display was terrible when back light comes on turns blue and all colours are blured out and just looks cheap!!! Anyone else having this issue
Absolutely, I have a 5 now and love it. Hell even the 3HR is great choice for now if you wanted to dip your toes in. The only gripe I have about my 5 is I was wanting the Sapphire lens, I bought it off ebay listed as Sapphire, but its not. Kept it anyways and putting an extra screen protector on it. Battery life is great, smart watch features are amazing, and the data you can get from exercise, sleep, running..... you get the idea, will astound you. There are only a few features that you might miss with a basic 5, Garmin Pay maybe. The 6 has a few more features, but mainly due to the newer heart rate sensor and Pulse Ox.
Hello there. I guess i could ask for some help here. I'm thinking to buy garmin fenix 5x plus. Will be there some features as garmin fenix 6? Or shouldi just go for garmin fenix 6x pro or what ever is that called?
Please, please, please show more carefully which buttons you are pushing. I have never had one of these watches before and you always have your fingers are on at least 2 buttons, sometimes 3. I cannot tell if I need to push one or two or 3 to get various functions. please don't assume people have had earlier versions of these watches.
I have old Fenix 3 WHR and i have 135 BMP when i hiking on the hill, BUT with NEW 6X Sapphire i have only 60-80 BPM in the same hill. This is to LOW !!!! I'm waiting for new update for F6 Sapphire/pro i hope it will fix heart rate !!!!
Will it automatically route me on paths and trails if i tell it I wanna go to a certain point of interest or coordinate? Or is it just a straight line to the target?
I've just got mine 6x pro. What I've noticed is that there is less apss in the connect IQ store compared to what I had on 5 plus. I wanted to install run power but it's not there. Is it because of the different screen resolutions and all the apps need to be updated?
Nah, it's just the wonky way Garmin handles the app store. Realistically they just need to set all round watch faces to be compatible across the board, rather than each individual app owner has to approve them. It's cumbersome. In the meantime, I'd recommend poking the apps you like and asking them to list their apps as Fenix 6 compatible. :-/
@@Dcrainmaker Thanks, that's what I gonna do. I wanted to give running with power a go this time as my previous Fenix 5 plus was faulty and had to return it after a 4 weeks of testing. I guess I'll have to wait a little bit more... BTW: many thanks for the coupon code at end of the written review. It saved me 10% (£65) here in UK.
And there is no way to fully recharge it using solar... So I’ll stick with the cheaper version and a solar panel. Anyway I’m happy with battery life even with the fenix3
DC Rainmaker ok thanks but I found out how in the meantime. By doing it your way only changes the power mode for the activity that particular time and it reverts to “normal” mode after. However, by holding “menu” when in the list of activities, before entering the activity, that changes the “default power” mode.
Once you leave GPS it'll stop auto-correcting, which, is totally fine. In my case though, I had been indoors, and I'm pretty sure I had showered before that (which blocks the altimeter holes). However, the real kicker is that I'm actually below elevation here in Amsterdam. Not a ton in my spot, about negative 1-3 meters, or about 10ft (the altimeter was in feet). All those things together explain why it shows negative. Once I go outside and let the altimeter re-calibrate, it'll be back to normal.
Every time I think about getting one of these, I watch one of the reviews and stop being interested. This watch is so packed with features, I wouldn't be using even 20% of them, despite being an active person. Its just too much. Or its the way these reviews are done that make me feel overwhelmed.
Bradley Dallman BRILLIANT! Truly a reply meant to be inflammatory. Bless you for this enlightening reply. I’d much rather have that memory consumed by all those useless golf courses for purposes of my own choice/preference.
@@jedisdad2265 You can disable it so it won't show on the watch as you use it, (Don't have to scroll past it) For the map space well not sure what to say there it's on the map same reason there is a super detailed path map for any UK Centre parcs park not everybody is ever going to visit there. Or run/bike there for that matter. However the same can be said for the skying piste maps. If it offends you just disable it, and the watch won't show it. The map sadly can't be changed, it's just the bog standard hiking map from Garmin.
@@nokeechia yeah the world map on the fenix watches is very detailed. And just as a joke my family whent right then. Let super watch navigate back to the chalet from the park centre and without a hitch it went in navigate mode and turn by turn mode. Only reason I know the Garmin maps have the centre parcs layouts pre loaded. I did check the other parcs. Well impressed with this watch.
I wanted to know how to use the watch. I don't know what buttons your are pushing. You have fingers on every button and when you are going through the watch I can't tell how!! Not great thinking for an instructional video. Perhaps wear the watch on your arm so you are having to hold it at four points
@@Dmitrioligy i mean the actual bar that hold the strap..i do a lot of water sports and have lost watches in past from the spring bar failing.the old screw and bar was a solid design
Spoiler Alert: Fenix 7 charges using your own body heat. And its out next year with the price tag twice the amount you're paying of for the 6X Pro Solar #WTF
@@alfonso2501 yeap they don't, but they always do and incremental upgrade to the their existing models. Just only recently when they launch their MARQ series, the fenix 6 has some of the features encompass within (i.e. the expedition feature that was designated specifically for the MARQ expedition series). Wont be surprise to see at the beginning of 2020, where the annual CES is held at Las Vegas, the guys from Garmin will roll out the body heat feature "as a new feature" to their newer models. Hell heck they may even throw in the LTE feature (that was implemented into the Vivoactive Verizon) to their newer Fenix line ups :)
