had the Venu2 for almost two weeks now after watching yours and DC reviews, I find the graphic help of how to do an activity really helpful specially since i never really done most of them let alone know what it is called. For anyone buying the venu2 i suggest locking the watch in an outdoor activity in settings as the touch get activated by a jacket and it suddenly activated some spotify and other stuff.. I have been between these devices, Fenix6 sounds really good, BUT, i don’t need mapping or all those activities. the arrow thing seem to work really well on the venu2 from my short walk with it but when a map is needed the phone is with me at all times anyway :) Thank you for a great comparison!

It's a nice review but I'm missing a critical note against Garmins practice, to limit software functionality to certain watches. I'm getting that from a financial point of view, but to be honest for the customer it just sucks and nothing more. The Venu 2 could have map based navigation and all those sports features with just an Software update. The hardware is there. But then, who would spend 700 on a Fenix? Probably not a lot of people. But is it that simple? There is no real apple watch alternative for Android right now. Google is not really getting it right with android wear and I feel like there would be a door wide open for a company like Garmin to step in and get that market share that's not taken jet. But they won't be able to do this with crippling their own watches. So what will be the future in the watch marked? Well just look at smartphones and you know what will happen. There will be companies like Amazfit or Samsung taking the smartwatch market and it won't be long until they're getting the sport features right and when they do, Garmin will just disappear like all major phone manufacturer except Samsung did. So I think Garmin is looking at short term revenue but they don't see the bigger picture they're in. I feel like a good review should be critical here. And I'm quite sure that that's the way it goes. The apple watch already takes up a goog portion of the Fitness market and it shows the Fitness brands how heart rate measurements are done. You don't need a chest strap with an apple watch, that's just what it is. For now Samsung, amazfit and Huawei are lacking a little behind in those features. But not by much and they're getting there.

@@marcokoehler5020 my issue with garmin is the bloated product lines. If they were to cut down their models significantly I do think the problems you mentioned with be at least partially alleviated by having a more focused line of products
@marcokoehler5020
@marcokoehler5020 3 года назад
@@BC21beats key would be to give them all the same Software functionality and differentiate with hardware. Two size options, two display options and two body material Options. So you're having basically the same watch and still everyone can chose to their liking. No need for an entry level line because that's done with case Material. The plastik version is cheaper, that's it. Additionally there can be a huge version with huge battery and battery Life and a rugged version. Everyone happy.

I know you praised the comments for bringing this video, but if you think about it, this is an excellent matchup of slightly differing features, styles and technology for basically the same form factor. These two was at the forefront of my mind when chosing a Garmin for the first time and I was actually leaning towards the Venu 2 after coming from the Fitbit Versa 2, however in the end the considerable feature pull from the titan that is the Fenix 6 Pro won my vote - it's a beast of a watch and perfect for me as a runner.

The difference in HR accuracy seems so negligible from a non-professional runner’s standpoint. I’ve been doing more tests lately and my Fenix 6X was very very close to a Polar Verity Sense. Again, no crazy stuff, just some exercises on the stepper and steady state running. I’m pretty sure HIIT or strength training will make the HRM on the Fenix look a bit useless but I’m not interested in those kind of activities. Great video. My Fenix 6X will stay on my wrist till the day it dies. I find it the best all-around experience on the market right now. It doesn’t excel at any category but it’s good enough for almost anything you’d throw at it. Another great video. Cheers from Romania.

Yeah for the most part you're probably right. Thing is it's very "your mileage may vary" kind of thing because of all of the variables involved in these sensors getting a good reading. It contains so much data/info inside and can display it - that actually it's an additional cellphone on the hand. That product is defenitely a huge step up in a worlds smart-watch field. Ammount of features is huge, display is outstanding with optional watch-faces, some can display up to 15+ values, including HR that refreshes every second or so. For 399$ it's a super deal that nowadays nobody can withstand.

@SpeedBoosted136
@SpeedBoosted136 2 года назад
@@pianostyles6550 no, but close. The most important thing in Watch HR perfromance is how good and stable the watch pressed into the hand. So sometimes when it gets lose or jumping - it may show HR 110 while actual is 155, but overall when it reads - it reads very consistent. Exceptions are - rapid HR changes. Only chest strap can handle them as expected, so i would advise to use Chest Strap for any athlete.

But My MAIN GOAL is to monitor myself to motivate/ justify me to go to sleep and have recuperation time/days... Or help me keep great diet and stuff. I've always been excessive and going to work or train with weeks of 4 or 5 hours sleep. But I'm 36 now and it needs to change. I'm also concerned about the solidity/durability of the watch since as an arborist I tend to break stuff and gear is under great stress. I also listen to music, work under heavy rain with gloves... and would like to progress/compete in sports. In advance Thks for your advices!

Left Apple Watch 6 and got a fenix 6s sapphire and loving it! I compared my tickr chest strap to the watch’s hr monitor and it was actually surprisingly close. That's probably a cool combo. The other cycling computers don't do training metrics like Garmin does, but Garmin is very frustrating to navigate with. I too stumbled across your channel while investigating the 6s Pro. It’s a great review/comparison between the 2 Garmin options. I’m shopping for my first smart watch and a little overwhelmed by the often conflicting reviews I read on various websites. Question.. of all the different smart watches you’ve reviewed from all the different brands do any stand out as being more accurate with the step counter? I realise none will be perfect because they work on your wrist moving but I tried the Fitbit charge 4 and I was doing over a 100 steps before I even got up in the morning... my husband thought I must be sleep walking. Lol. That and I would count 30 steps and it would record anywhere up to 45. Being 50% out made it completely useless to me. I don’t mind paying extra for something top of the line like the 6s Pro if it’s going to give me what I want even though I will never utilise most of its functions. What I’m looking for in order of importance s - as accurate as possible step counter - good quality sleep tracker - waterproof for general lap swimming - good battery life - Spotify - preferably not too chunky looking so I can wear it to work. Price point in Australia atm for Garmin Venu - $498 AUD 6s - $498 AUD 6s Pro - $574 AUD 6s Saffire - $798 AUD I’d really appreciate any feedback you can give based on all the watches you’ve tested not just necessarily Garmin watches. Many thanks Fran.

It seems like you're more interested in wellness tracking than you are sports/activity tracking. In that case I'd suggest looking at the Venu 2. It's an excellent step/sleep tracker, has spotify, waterproof, and isn't too chunky. Seems to tick all of your boxes! Also keep in mind that the standard Fenix 6s does not have music capabilities. Great review as always Dave! One question I had while watching (and I think I've asked it before but worth mentioning again) is this: Why is Garmin so inconsistent with which features go on which watch!? Take navigation and mapping as an example, you mentioned Fenix6s has the best in the business...this is understandable that Garmin would want to pay gate this feature to their top of the line watches. What I don't understand is why the Venu 2 which has the same GPS chip doesn't even do the VERY basic breadcrumb mapping that my Garmin Instinct (which is much older) can do? I can't help but sometimes be cynical of Garmins motives and assume that they want to push the sales of certain products so they make it impossible to compare for marketing purposes not actual technical reasons.... sorry end rant 🤣 thanks again for helping us the customer have as much info as we can in these great comparison videos!
@ChaseTheSummit
@ChaseTheSummit 3 года назад
They have three main markets. Outdoors, Fitness, and Wellness. Outdoor = Fenix, Fitness = Forerunner, wellness = Venu/Vivo. Wellness devices typically don't get navigation features because that's not what they're designed for and it would take additional storage/cpu power along with additional software resources to accomplish and licensing that would accumulate to a more expensive device. Think of it like buying a laptop with the MS Office suite pre-installed vs one that comes with barebones windows. The pre-installed software will cost a bit more. Buy yeah, I get the frustration. It would be nice to have it all on the Venu 2. But it certainly would canaballize their Fenix sales!

@@ChaseTheSummit It was so helpful I bought both! Just couldn't make up my mind. I got two very different styles - so I'll have a smart watch for every occasion! The Venu 2s in steel and the Fenix 6s with gold and suede band! Great looking and they are fairly different in both functionality and look of the software. Can't decide which one I like the best - just like you said, both are great! One thing is for sure though - I'm going to get in shape this autumn! I'm hoping that the Fenix in particular, will inspire me to try new enjoyable sports and give me tips. I'm a Garmin fan because all their watches can be used in airplane mode and I like to have an EMF free home... It seems to be possible to sync these watches using the cable to a PC or tablet.. or to turn the wifi/bluetooth on temporarily during a brief period only. Also they don't go out of their way to harvest data. Decent company. I wonder if there is a video about using two different Garmin devices to track the same things? Seems like you if anyone, would know about that! When I set them up, Garmin Express asked which one was the primary health data device, or something like that. But I would like Garmin Connect to take data from both, since I plan to use both... and combine that! Is that possible? How does that work for you, since you are swapping watches all the time?

Thank you for the comprehensive review! In general I like Fenix 6s more including its screen actually (I like always on but on Venu 2 it costs so much battery which makes it not an option for me), and the navigation on 6s is so attractive which Venu 2 does not have without a phone nearby if I understand correctly (I'd like to have another device for navigation in new places just in case my phone is out of battery)... but the weight of Fenix 6s is kind of a dealbreaker for me - 61 g is too heavy for me as a lady with 13 cm wrist size... and for this reason I might go for Venu 2s - If I go for running with Venu 2s only, without phone, can the watch record the route?
