I replace my old Vivoactive with the first Venu about 6 months ago. At the time I was considering the Forerunner 245. I opted for the Venu because of the screen. The Venu has been a good watch but I found that a pretty screen wasn’t important to me. Taking advantage of all of it features I find the battery doesn’t last as long as my old Vivoactive and the screen can be harder to see in sunlight. This winter I also had trouble with the buttons when running in sub freezing temperatures. Thales several presses of the buttons. I think the more pronounced buttons on the Forerunner might be more functional. For me the Forerunner would have been a better decision. With a better battery they might fixed the issues with the Venu. I love the Garmin app and they are constantly updating software. I burrowed an Apple Watch for a few days but the feel on my wrist and having to charge it everyday makes me stay with Garmin. The sports portion of the Apple Watch is lacking. Thanks for your review. I always check your review out. Will be “watching” for any upcoming new Forerunner watches. I might update quicker this time.

I plan to wear this watch while at home to record vitals and keep my Fenix 7X for outdoors which I use several times per week. It would be very nice if you could let us know, if the venu 2 could be ur Next daily driver or not and why. I have to make a big decission: Venu 2 or Fenix 6s. And in times like this (every market is Closed) its very Hard to make the correct decission. I watched almost every video from you and i know that you like a lot of watches that you tested. But at the end of the day, its always your 6s which proudly come back to ur wrist. Maybe one of your next Videos could help me out here. Cheers Marcus

The Fenix and Venu are very different devices. The Venu 2 is more focused on wellness tracking and being a great smartwatch with an OLED display. It's for people who occasionally workout but it's not their primary objective in life. The Fenix 6 is purpose built for endurance sports, hiking, being off the grid, etc... Offline maps, advanced training metrics, and the ability to use multi-sport mode for triathlon events. Both have their place, but for me I like the Fenix 6 for versatility. Hope that helps!

I have a fenix 3 so I was looking into getting a new model but was unsure if I should do this one or vivoactive 4. The only thing is that I wish they had texting like the apple watches have where you can text from tracing on the screen. If it had that then it would be perfect.
@ChaseTheSummit

Unfortunately that texting feature is exclusive to apple. They don't allow third parties like Garmin to compose text messages. So it's really an Apple issue and less of a Garmin issue!

Thank you for this great video. Those are always very helpful and interesting. I have a more technical question regarding the side buttons. Do those differ to e.g. the forerunner series? When I tested the Venu 2, I had a bit of a margin when pressing the side buttons. Might be also technical issue. Maybe you experienced the same thing. Thank you for your answer!
@ChaseTheSummit
@ChaseTheSummit 2 года назад
The buttons are all different depending on the watch. The Venu 2's I've tested have decently clicky buttons but the button itself is a little thin for my liking. The forerunners have round buttons which I find easier to press while running.

I have no idea about the percentage of Fenix-owners who go on multi day hikes/adventures without possibility to charge, but I would guess that there is market for Fenix functionality with a gorgeous screen for the cost of not beeing able to go on multi day hikes with all festures turned on. The Enduro showed some really impressive improvements in power management, this should be able to be put in use in a Fenix with a AMOLED display and still get more than acceptable battery life. The Vantage M2 is probably the most sport-dedicated of the bunch while the ignite 2 and Venu 2 are more of a "wellness tracking" watch for folks who aren't hardcore athletes and still want to track their activities while having an excellent AMOLED watch for daily life. Between the Venu 2 and Ignite 2 I prefer the Venu 2 for it's improved responsiveness, brighter display, better battery life, and more customization with Garmin Connect. You forgot to mention the ability to copy existing profiles and it has additional alternatives for names, such as race, combat, basketball, soccer, football, dog walk etc. It would've been interesting to find out if they've added new alternatives behind the scenes there. Ofc the profiles essentially are the same, but it allows tracking them individually for stats.

You can copy and create custom activities on the Venu 2. GPS aquisition was just as snappy as my Forerunner 945 and Fenix 6. I'm pretty certain they're still using the same antenna design and Sony GPS chip so I don't think too much has changed from the Vivoactive 4/Venu to this new Venu 2 in terms of GPS accuracy. Thanks for watching.

I am debating myself for months over which my first smart watch device should be. I have an iPhone, so AW is in the game, but I overall incline towards Garmin thanks to better overall tracking abilities. I couldn't really decide yet (if only Instinct had Garmin Pay or Venu SQ had been just a bit more compelling to me..) but Venu2 is the one that wins me over. If Apple (or Garmin) does not come with anything better (for Apple it means significantly improving the battery life), I will go for it.

Nice review. Just curious why you don't think this would be appropriate for Triathletes/ ultamarathoners. My guess would be no OWS tracking for tris and not enough battery for ultras? How does this compare to the Vivoactive4?
@ChaseTheSummit
@ChaseTheSummit 3 года назад
The Venu 2 doesn't have a proper triathlon/multisport mode so when you transition from Swim/Bike/Run you'll need to stop the activity... save it... and start a new one which isn't all that great. The Venu 2 could certainly get by in an ultra marathon as long as it's under the claimed 22 hours of battery life but I'd probably keep it under 10-15 to be safe. The Venu 2 is also lacking any form of navigation features which a lot of ultra runners like to have. In terms of comparing it to the Vivoactive 4 it's the same as comparing it to the original Venu so the points I talk about in this video apply to the vivoactive as well. Hope that helps!

Great review. Question- is there a way to see each song in a playlist- using Amazon Music on the Venu 2? I can only seem to see my playlist but when I click on it, there is not list- just the first song starts playing. have to hit next >| to see the next song. This makes it very hard to get to song #30...when you are running at 7mph! There has to be an easier way- anyone? If I used Spotify music app instead, could I then see each song on a scrollable list?
@ChaseTheSummit
@ChaseTheSummit 2 года назад
Not really. Garmin just lets you download entire playlists to the watch. It's not very easy to navigate to a particular song. I think the easiest way is to organize a series of small playlists for use on the watch.
@UTAH100
@UTAH100 2 года назад
@@ChaseTheSummit Sadly I believe you are correct. The only work around I found is to purchase the songs download the MP3 file to Windows Media player then sync that list. Within the my music folder on the venue 2 I can actually see each individual song and I can scroll them too. Having 2 or 3 smaller playlists for specific types of workouts is also a good idea. It's disappointing that the collaboration between garmin and Amazon doesn't create a better experience experience. I guess they want to sell the songs. It's funny that they don't even offer it as an upgrade option, they just leave us hangin. It's taken me several days to figure this out on my own by going into the garmin forum and asking others.
