I can prep and fly this with my eyes closed (figure of speech) as long as i have radar contact...vectors....and my steam gauges..... I hope pilots these days dont become too dependant on AP. Yah...its cool...but dont lose your hand flying skills for cripes sake.
Another great video. The third of yours I"ve watched. I like your no nonsense approach clear, concise explantions. Plus I love how so far, in none of the three videos I've watched, did you ask us to subscribe. You don't even ask for likes. Of course I've already subscribed and I make sure I Like each video too. They really are well done.
I know this video is a bit old, but still great advice and potentially a life saving technique. With the advancement of the G1000 NXI would this still be the recommended procedure? You produce some great videos!
Can Takeoff Alternates somehow be programmed into the GTN750 / G500 units, other than adding the TAKEOFF ALTERNATE airport to the end of the flight plan?
Great videos, always very informative. In most cases if you are going to declare an emergency wouldn't your best "alternate" be the airport that you just took off from. This may not be a procedure that is approved in the regulations, but in an emergency situation you are just using the best option to get the plane on the ground.
In some cases, yes. But if the emergency happens long after take off and you have a straight in to your alternate it may be best to go to the alternate. Emergencies are very fluid and times of high stress, hence having the takeoff alternate as a backup plan.
@@davidmarsh3513 Just program your departure airport as illustrated in this video (as your Take-off Alternate), and your return to field ILS will be pre-loaded and ready to go, quickest way to get down. And for faster, if you want to use land on same runway opposite direction to return, destination airport is already preloaded, just select the opposite approach to come back.
