You need to go into the Marine settings and adjust off course to .1 mi. You will then show "off course" much quicker.
@outdooremergencytech
@outdooremergencytech Год назад
Thank you. I think someone else mentioned this to me a few days ago, but It didn't register with me because why would Garmin put the course alerts for this under the Marine menu? I just got off the phone with Garmin and the technician I talked to didn't understand why it would be there either. Maybe Garmin will change it. Thanks again for the tip. I set it to 0.01 miles, which should come out to be around 53 feet. I'll test out TracBack again today with this new setting. Rick
@tmwqqvbg
@tmwqqvbg Год назад
Did that work? That's THE feature I need for what I want to use this for. In fact, I think I'd like to set it to more like 0.001mi which the multi band navigator SHOULD support.

I don't see how you can go less than 0.01 miles. I just tried it and 0.01 miles is the smallest increment I can go. Let me know if you find a way to go less than that. Rick

I was most excited to hear about the improved battery life and I have started a battery test on the 67i to see if it gets what Garmin states. Those videos will be uploaded next week after the battery actually dies. I did notice the 67i seems a lot faster than the 66i, especially when panning all around the U.S. look at the Active Weather. The Mini 2 has been my favorite satellite communicator, and the 66i could never over take it, primarily due to the battery life, but I think the 67i may take the top spot now, away from my Mini 2. Sorry if this has been answered......I understand this comes pre loaded with too maps, but why do some people complain about the cost of other maps? Aren't the pre loaded maps detailed and good enough for the vast majority of us? Thanks.
@outdooremergencytech
@outdooremergencytech 6 месяцев назад
Yes, the preloaded TopoActive maps are plenty for most people, but if you want additional information on lakes, or private/public land boundaries, then you will need to pay an additional subsription. For example, if you're a hunter and you want to see hunting units in every state, plus see the boundaries of public lands, then you can get the Outdoor Maps+ annual subscription for $49.99. This gives you more detail on every state in the U.S. I understand this is an additional charge but in the past, you would have to spend almost $100 for every state for the hunting units. I think the $50 annual fee for the Outdoor Maps+ is a great deal. I hope I have helped answer your question. Rick

Seems like the auto tracking (blue lines everywhere) could be corrected with a firmware update. I find this feature very annoying. If u agree, suggest this to Garmin. Why don’t we manually control the start of tracking?
@outdooremergencytech
@outdooremergencytech 19 дней назад
Those are some good comments and something I will bring up to Garmin. One of the things that has helped me since then is to reset my 67i back to the factory settings. That got rid of most all of the blue lines. The problem is that I test many satellite communicators in the same area and it get's more confused then what most people will ever see, but resetting back to factory settings has always helped me once a Garmin technician recommended that as a potential fix. I'll look into manually controlling the start of tracking and bring that up with Garmin. Thanks for your insight and suggestions. Rick

Here's a question / future topic, I've not seen any content on why or when to use external memory (in the sd card slot) I know the device has 16 gb of internal memory and it has about 10 gb used out of the box. That leaves about 6 gb to use before a sd card would be necessary. Have you ever found it necessary to use more memory? Carry on and thanks for your efforts here.

I bought a 32 GB card to download maps for the 66i, but had problems with it. I talked to Garmin and they ended up sending my the HuntView map for Colorado on their 4 GB card, which worked. The issue now with the 67i is that I have bought the year subscription for the Garmin Outdoor Maps+, that has all of the maps that were previously available by state on the SD cards, so I don't currently see a reason for an additional SD card. I'll keep paying attention to this and may have a video in the future as I research and learn more. Don't hesitate to add additional information here that may help in my future video. Thanks. Rick

I have both of them and they are my two top satellite communicators. I'll use the Mini 2 on easy day hikes when I'm good with trusting the bluetooth to help me navigate on the Explorer App, but I'll go with my 67i on longer trips when I don't want to rely on my phone's battery and when it's worse weather and a rugged hike. Interestingly enough, I now have the Etrex SE and have been testing it to get ready for a field test. I don't know enough about it to answer your questions with great certainty, but here is what I do know. The 67i's screen is larger and in color, where the Etrex is black and white. The Etrex is about twice as small and half the weight. The Etrex does not have communication capabilities where the GPSMAP 67i does. Honestly, with what I currently know after a little testing, I like the 67i much better. I would prefer to have one device instead of two and if I was using the Etrex SE, I would also be taking my Garmin inReach Messenger with me. TracBack is free is you navigate but are not tracking, then when you select TracBack, it will take you back to your starting point. If you start tracking, you will pay for each track over the amount that is free in your subscription plan. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick

I use the desktop app FATMAP to plan my hiking routes. If i export that file, can i sync it with the Garmin app and it shows be it on this device? Will it show all the trails in the area? What if the trail i want to do isn't really a marked trail? I've used fatmap and I'm seeing that not all trails are marked in there, so wondering if this would be an issue too, in case i need to change plans on route.
@outdooremergencytech

I am not familiar with FATMAP, but every program I have used to export trails have been able to be brought into the Explore App or into the Explore.Garmin web page. You may want to call Garmin about the FATMAP. The 67i shows all of the trails here in Colorado that I have hiked, except for a brand new trail system when it first came out a few years ago, but those trails now show up on my 67i. I would like to find a user friendly set up for a beginner on RU-vid.
@outdooremergencytech
@outdooremergencytech Год назад
I know there are RU-vid tutorials out there but honestly, and this is not a sales pitch, Everything I have learned about creating websites and RU-vid channels has come from Wealthy Affiliate. Here is a link if you want to check it out. www.wealthyaffiliate.com?a_aid=f9acd2db. The main thing to keep in mind is you should have an email that is the name of your channel. Mine is hikingemergencybeacon@gmail.com. Once you have this, you can create a RU-vid channel. What helped me so much at Wealthy Affiliate was that there are so many great training courses on how to pick a niche and do research so your setting yourself up for success. I would recommend you keep your niche small and don't pick something like "Outdoor Gear," because that covers to much information. Narrow down what you will focus on, like backpacks, tents, or even better yet, backpacking tents or car camping tents. There is so much to cover here but I'm trying to give a few pointers, but the biggest thing is to find someone like Wealthy Affiliate where you can build a website, RU-vid channel or keep up to date as the web continues change. I hope that helps. Don't hesitate to ask more questions. This is such a huge topic that it would take a day of discussions to even touch the tip of the ice berg. Rick

Dead phone or no cellular coverage, what's the point? You can carry a shitload of batteries so what's the point of recharging availability. Batteries work, solar panel rechargers are a non-starter in a real emergency or bug out situation. Self powered, as much as possible, then direct satellite GPS is the only option. Many will call me full of sh.t.
