Pretty awesome kit. Blows my mind Garmin can pull out weeks of battery life and other competitors struggle to give you 24hrs of smart watch capability per charge.

Yes I agree, the battery life is really impressive in all their watches but this one is just crazy.

The Mk1 and Mk1 Pro are huuuge, compared to e.g. an Apple Watch. I guess that’s because of the size of the battery…

It's true I've had my instinct x2solar on for 2 weeks and still has 30days left of battery. OBV no touch screen but idc most of the time.

I'm a student pilot and I am trying soooooo hard to convince myself I don't need one I did get a Bose A30 as a gift from my parents when I started out so I hope this appears under the Christmas tree this year :)

One thing I honestly think that Garmin needs to look at is radiation exposure monitor. That is the one thing that will make all commercial pilots buy it.

Nice review, as always. Still, having already an Mach 1, I will skill the upgrade. As the "only" benefits are the torch and longer battery life; also as it was a present from my wife. BTW you also made me realise that the red shift is available also on the Mach 1 :)

Love Garmin since I've switched to it like 5 years ago. But I prefer MIP display over AMOLED for many reasons. Hopefully they won't abandon them fully but from what I can tell the aviation line is no longer offered with a MIP variant :/

You video states "the heart rate monitor (those little green lights) are in the same place" which is not entirely true: the Pro has Elevate V5 which is a newer/better HRM with more lights AND supports ECG measurement. The regular D2M1 has older Elevate V4 which does not have these upgrades.

With those watches do you need to connect to systems on the aircraft eg the altimeter. As it would be cool to use on commercial flights

Good review, sir. However, the biggest disadvantage is that it requires one of your arms to be bent and illuminate the dashboard instead of flying or operating. Also, we all know that Cirrus has a side stick and your left hand should be on it and not messing with a watch.

this may be a silly question as i am not a pilot... but what if your auto pilot went out and you needed to use your torch in heavy turbulence... the Garmin is on your yolk hand which would be busy keeping the plane stable? having said that it looks very stylish and full of brilliant features

all these watch features are generally a b$.. The maps are barely readable, touch screen is useless in turbulence.. A $10 head lamp with red filter from Bunnings is all a pilot need.. however, buying this watch, you are buying "the status"..

Hey Steven, I have the D2 Mach 1. Have you had any problems with your watch not autologging flights? It worked initially but stopped. I’ve even reset to factory conditions and no bueno.

Hey, I don't actually have my M1 set to autolog flights so I haven't experienced what you mention. I remember there were settings for speed / climb rate I think to auto start the activity, have you played with those settings and made sure you're reaching those thresholds on flights?

Does this thing have a powerful and sufficient buzzer to feel strong tactile alarms when you fly with an headset on your ears ? Apple Watch Ultra has one. D2 Mach 1 has not. That’s the unique reason why I fly with an Apple Watch Ultra.

Garmin has a focus more on athletic people who use this type of watch for high performance, an Apple watch is more for not using the cell phone as much as Samsung and they are people who do occasional physical activity.

1.3 inch face vs 1.4 inch face just doesn't make sense, Stefan. Don't mix your imperial and your metric measurements. Imperial just doesn't have points. They are 1/16ths, 3/8ths, or whatever. Like, 3.28084 ft to the metre is an arithmetic nightmare.
